What's your guilty pleasure movie?

I'm not talking porn... I'm talking about those really lame or weird movies that you absolutely love but when you admit that you like them, people think your nuts... or the movie that you've seen millions of times but will stop what you're doing just to watch it.

My guilty pleasure "bad" movie is Mommy Dearest - which was on Oh! tonight. I love that movie - Joan Crawford was soooo evil.

My guilty pleasure "good" movie is Witness... it's always on tv and I always have to watch it. Plus, it's a good movie.

wolf 09-13-2005 12:00 AM

The new DVD release of Witness is pretty good ... a nice documentary accompanies it as an extra.

My "good" movie is and always will be The Great Escape. Despite having purchased this movie I watch it every single time I encounter it on TV.

Some of the "bad" ones:

Mars Needs Women
The Deserter (It's a Western, but I saw it in a theater on my birthday as a child, along with a rerelease of Billy the Kid vs. Dracula)
Nearly Any Black and White Horror Film from Universal Pictures (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Mummy, and the assorted sequels)
The Hammer Horror films (mostly starring Christopher Lee)

if you turned the sound off for both of them i could follow it saying every line.

i have a weird liking for flashback as well. dennis hopper and keiffa sutherland or whatever the hell his name is

Tonchi 09-13-2005 04:03 AM

My guilty pleasure favorite for 20 years has been "Critters". I watch it every time I can find it on and it still cracks me up just as much as the first time. (What ever happened to the USA Network "Up All Night" movies?)

The best movie for me has to be "The Lion In Winter". The dialog is absolutely incredible, it almost makes me want to learn French so I could read the original play.

glatt 09-13-2005 08:05 AM

If Tremors is on TV, I'll usually watch it.

I always cry when they watch the old home movie, and Kiefer starts sniffling because he misses his mom and dad, and realizes what an asshole he is.

My guilty pleasure movies:

Cheesy--French Kiss
Good--The Road Warrior

wolf 09-14-2005 12:37 AM

I just got the "killer special edition" so American Psycho joins my list. And Fight Club.

Kagen4o4 09-14-2005 04:54 AM

fight club is just a given, i thought it didnt need to be mentioned.

Griff 09-14-2005 05:50 AM

That is also a violation of the first rule.

No reason to be guilty at all over these.

Your comment absolves you of any possible guilt.

Yes, you should be very guilty. Bury your head in shame, woman!!

Sun_Sparkz 09-28-2005 01:27 AM

ooh yeah Bullit, Short Curcuit is my TV secret pleasure movie. i wouldnt go as far as to buy it on DVD but ill watch it on tele everytime!!

ironically, the only movie that REALLY gets under my nose that they play on tele about 4 times a year here in OZ is GROUDHOG DAY. my god what is it with that movie?!?! I watch the fookin thing everytime and i hate it so fookin much!! ARGH! what the hell is a groundhog anyway. gees.

wolf 09-28-2005 01:50 AM

A groundhog is a bit like a wombat, only cuter. And not a marsupial

They are renowned for their ability to predict the weather.

A groundhog is ritually tortured in a small, otherwise unremarkable, Pennsylvania town every February 2nd. Just like in the movie.

A gentleman in a mourning coat and a top hat drags it out of it's pretend burrow and brandishes it at the crowd, while another, similarly attired gentleman reads a proclamation that tells if there will be an additional six weeks of winter from that day forth.

The Official Punxsutawney Phil Site

(that's pronounced PUNKS-uh-taw-nee, by the way. Pennsylvania and Australia may have to fight over strangest place names, although you've got a good chance with places like Woolamaloo and Woomera. We on the other hand have Wissahickon, Conshohocken, and Susquehanna).

I did...
:headshake

Sun_Sparkz 09-28-2005 02:22 AM

my gawd. thats increddible (the groundhog not the dvd buying :0 )

they must have humidity sensors or something. Like ants do. the ants here go bonkers when the rains are coming.

The town next to the villiage i live in (Ballimore) is called Elong Elong, pronounced Eeeee-Long Eeeee-long. now thats bad! And nearby is Dunedoo pronounced Duny(aussie toilet)Doooo. Much too similar to Duny poo. and the towns big tourist attraction is a novelty oversized outhouse in a WCA Park. now THATS bad!

wolf 09-28-2005 02:26 AM

Groundhog Weather Prognostication is all about whether they see their shadows or not. See shadow, six more weeks of winter. No shadow, early spring.

There's an older English couplet that says the same thing, basically:

If Candlemas dawns fair and bright, winter takes another flight.
If Candlemas dawns cloud and rain, winter shall not come again.

(I've never seen the Groundhog Day movie all the way through)

Sun_Sparkz 09-28-2005 02:35 AM

So who see's the shadow.. the man in robe or the animal? Whos shadow is it?

how can you tell if the animal see's his own shadow? you cant ask him... does he flinch or something?

Thanks for calling me Gwennie! You finally accepted my feminine side which you had been struggling with. That's a lot of progress in one thread. You're still one of the toughest gals I know, even if you do like an occasional chick flick. :D
