What's in your freezer?

yellow-billed cuckoo

Happy Monkey 06-21-2005 06:08 PM

Microwave Indian food. At least a year old.

And all of my glasses (beverage serving, not eyesight correcting).

Trilby 06-21-2005 06:19 PM

Gino's pizza rolls, pizza bagel bites and pizza.
Waffles.

but most importantly--ICE CREAM!

BigV 06-21-2005 06:27 PM

Upstairs freezer in fridge:

four trays ice, plus rectangular bucket of ice; coolwhip, half gallon Birthday Cake ice cream. 4 limeades (makes 2 quarts). two 1/2 cup containers of homemade pesto. 4-5 ziplocked servings of homemade baked beans. Gel cold pack. Resers frozen burritos. 5lbs veg/chicken potstickers (wait, served last night--company). frozen mixed vegetables. Frozen mixed berries (smoothies, yum).

Edit: staceyv reminded me..frozen waffles, storebought. frozen frenchtoast homemade...enough for several quickie breakfasts.

just from memory. will doublecheck at home.

Downstairs chest freezer: 8 loaves whole wheat bread. several 1lb packs of ground beef. half dozen ziplocked turkey broth servings. More limeade and raspberry lemonade. More ice cream, Cappucino Chip and Peppermint Candy. Two frozen pizzas Several Swanson's frozen entrees, various (10 for $10) 4-5 1lb packages of balogna. two pack fryer chicken.

More memory scanning. Probably not far off.

staceyv 06-21-2005 06:30 PM

3 weeks worth of coffee cake, muffins and pancakes. 3 weeks worth of homemade bread. Pre-cooked grains and a 3 pre-made dinners. (I make a lot during my time off so I don't have to while I'm working-this is all for Arsen)
Steaks, cheeses, veggies, ground turkey, etc etc. If you open the door, something might fall out.

Happy Monkey 06-21-2005 06:35 PM

I usually have premade dinners in the freezer, but I,ve run low enough that the two I have left are in the fridge thawing.

SteveDallas 06-21-2005 06:37 PM

Umm let's see, an empty martini glass, the freezer bowl from my ice cream maker (a birthday present -- I should start a food thread about it), frozen waffles, Toaster Strudel, a couple random frozen pizzas, and varying quantities of chicken breasts, ground turkey, ground meat, lamb, or pork chops, depending on what's been on sale recently.

staceyv 06-21-2005 06:44 PM

Okay, someone's gotta do this:

Griff, why the hell do you have a yellow tailed cuckoo in your freezer?
Are they edible?

BrianR 06-21-2005 06:58 PM

I have some ice cubes, a handful of Pop-Ices, two Ice Cream novelties, half a box of waffles, four hamburger patties and one can of frozen OJ concentrate.

I have a very small freezer. A new chest freezer is coming but I gotta figure out how to get it home first. Anyone with a truck or van care to help out?

Brian

Isn't your real question, "Why don't I have a yellow-billed cuckoo in my freezer?" I'm holding on to a window kill for a biologist friend.

What kind of vodka does Arsen have in the freezer?

Clodfobble 06-21-2005 08:12 PM

My freezer is always packed to the gills. Most interesting item: peeled bananas (can't freeze them with the peels on, trust me) and strawberries, for making smoothies for breakfast.

Griff 06-21-2005 08:18 PM

Smoothies, thats a good idea!

I wonder if Wolf has some scarey stuff in her freezer.

elSicomoro 06-21-2005 08:19 PM

I have a bunch of frozen dinners that Rho didn't eat before moving. At least I don't have to do any more grocery shopping during my last days in Philadelphia.

SteveDallas 06-21-2005 08:38 PM

Smoothies? Any good recipes? I think I have the lamest, most useless blender in the world. I've thought of getting one of the handheld ones but I figure it'll probably not get used.

limey 06-21-2005 08:40 PM

Forty mice and a half bottle of 60% proof vodka, amongst other things.

Sun_Sparkz 06-21-2005 09:04 PM

2 full home raised sheep cut into 18 bags, dim sims, frozen chips (crinkle cut), pommes noisettes, ice cream, lemon sorbet, 2 loaves of bread, ice cubes, pastry sheets, frozen peas, mixed vegetables frozen, chicken nuggetts, fish fillets crumbed and lemon flavoured, frozen coliflour gratten, frozen chicken curry, pea and ham soup in 4 bowls, Crimson Oak tree seeds to germinate for spring, cubes of turtle food, ice packs for the camping bag.

i have a large, chest freezer by the way

melidasaur 06-21-2005 09:25 PM

This is not in my freezer now, but it's a good freezer story.

My dad is a veteranarian (sp?), thus we usually had a variety of pets around the house. Cats, birds, fish, mice, etc. etc. We had these two parakeets when I was in high school. They lived in our tv room and they were sooo noisy. They chirped all the time and you could never really watch TV in peace. So... one night, my parents were watching the X-files and one of the birds started making this unreal noise... and it just dropped dead. Apparently, it got scared during the X-files. The other one was quick to follow. My dad decided that the best thing to do would be to put the birds in a Ziploc baggie and in the freezer. He wanted to perform an autopsy to determine the real cause of death.

The autopsy was never performed... the birds sat in the freezer for months. One of my friends went into the freezer to get some ice, saw the birds and freaked out. What kind of freaks freeze their pets? My family. The birds were pitched shortly after the ice incident.

My freezer now is empty. I need to go shopping.

headsplice 06-22-2005 09:18 AM

1/2 1b chicken. 1qt homemade bolognese sauce (non-traditional, sausage AND hamburg). 1.5 liter bottle of Sapphire. 1 liter bottle of Grey Goose. 3 flexible ice packs. 1 qt caramel/vanilla ice cream. 1 popsicle. Ice.

I use 1.5 bananas (I break them all in half before I freeze them), about 6-10 whole strawberries (I buy them in a bag already frozen, so there are no stems to deal with) and maybe 1 to 1.5 cups of apple juice. That's it. I usually microwave the bananas for 10 seconds just to make it a little easier on the blender, though I have a very industrial one, like the kind they have in bars. Only two speeds, and it cost about $140. But I use it everyday.

staceyv 06-22-2005 12:00 PM

Arsen HAD Grey Goose in there, but it's all gone now...

BigV 06-22-2005 12:54 PM

Not actually my freezer, but interesting just the same.

russotto 06-22-2005 01:10 PM

Some Haagen-Dazs, some meat, and some Jaegermeister left over from the previous owner of the freezer.

Elspode 06-22-2005 01:11 PM

Limey must be a snake keeper.

Downstairs freezer: Lots of frost (it is old)
Upstairs freezer: Two large bags of chicken breasts, large bag frozen french fries, coffee in a bag, ice cube trays (which may or may not contain ice), freezer pops, half of a ham, some cold packs.

UnderRAPS 06-22-2005 03:08 PM

Victoria Secrets panties....size S.

lookout123 06-22-2005 03:11 PM

i have the mind of a small child

not in my freezer though.

cowhead 06-22-2005 05:30 PM

gnocchi pasta, orange sherbet, two salmon fillets, two martini glasses (yeah like I have company over that often :) but one ought to be prepared) a bottle of bourbon (101 proof) a bottle of vodka (also 100 proof) frozen pineapple and orange juice and quite a bit of ice (the needs to be defrosted kind of ice mind you)

Nothing as interesting as everybody else, apparently.

  • Three bars of hippie shampoo soap
  • Several varieties of coffee, including a couple different types of beans, pre-measured filterpacks stolen from hotels rooms, and some Israeli Espresso
  • Slightly less ice than I typically need for a beverage
  • Blue Ice Thingies for the cooler
  • Therapeutic Ice Pack (never know when you'll need one)
  • Hippie Manufactured Lavender stuffed eye pillow for those headachy times (which has never been out of the freezer since I put it in. Thing has to be damn cold by now)
  • Couple of Nathan's footlong hotdogs that I really have to either eat or throw out
  • Some Steakburgers, another QVC purchase.
  • One genuine Hippie veggie burger in "Cheesesteak" flavor. It actually simulates the taste fairly well, but of course isn't anything like a cheesesteak. It is much more like cheesesteak than the f'meat sausages are like sausages, though.
  • Buncha TV Dinners
  • Assorted frozen vegetables including, but not limited to, broccoli, green beans, and corn.
  • The Freezing drum for my ice cream maker is in a box in the closet because it will not fit in my freezer at this time. (SteveD, as much as I despite Ben & Jerry's politics, they have a pretty good book on home ice cream making, if you can withstand doing things like not cooking the eggs). I also have a tupperware ice-pop maker that is not in the freezer because there is no space large enough for it to sit level.
  • Chocolate bars I'm saving for a special occasion/emergency
  • At least two kinds of ice cream
  • Couple leftover Starbucks ice cream bars (fudgicle-like) that don't get eaten because of the afore-mentioned at least two kinds of ice cream.
  • Airplane size bottle of Jaegermeister

BigV 06-22-2005 05:56 PM

I understand the vodka's in the freezer, it is only pickled potato juice after all, ok, but is your bourbon so cheap and nasty that you have to mute the flavor with cold to drink it? I always liked my bourbon with no more than two cubes. Half the pleasure was the aroma.

cowhead 06-22-2005 07:42 PM

naw, I just like it nice and cold.. I have some weird drinking habits.. I like my red wine slightly chilled *ducking*..

lumberjim 06-22-2005 09:47 PM

i have no idea. i only know that theres no room to put anything else in there with it.

Hmmm, always tastes/smells like burnt sugar to me. Never developed a taste for it. The hard stuff messes my stomach anyway.

Until recently the upstairs freezer had a bottle of Bombay safire which was involved in a series of small spills ;)

Now there are 21 quarts of frozen strawberries, about 1/8 of a beefer in various cuts (was a 1/4) some ice, some pork roasts, about a half dozen tubs of hummus, some bananas with the skin on. (Why is this bad? Besides the horrible color and the impossibility of peeling them when they defrost. Maybe I answered my own question.)

18 pounds of cultured butter. Several chickens. Game hens coming soon!

5# of sundried tomatoes. A few pounds of frozen corn.

Downstairs freezer has more chicken, bacon, roasts, and some beef.

wolf 06-22-2005 11:15 PM

I think I want your freezer.

snobs 06-22-2005 11:18 PM

ice, chicken breasts, ice cream, pizza rolls, hamburger patties, salmon, banquet chicken filets, corn, hash browns, popcicles & bagels.

dove, burger meat, something that resembles burger meat from i guess a year ago, ice cream (blue bell - butter pecan and pistachio flavors), ice, various flavors of smoked sausage, the last of the snapper from may's offshore trip, um i think that about covers it.....

jaguar 06-23-2005 04:22 AM

that is sick cowhead, that's in the same league as babykilling.
- bottle of grey goose
- ice
- shot glasses
- frozen grapes
- large volume of soup and mysterious other containers all obscured by ice and firmly welded into the structure of the freezer now till i break out the icepick.

frozen bananas rock.

BrianR 06-23-2005 09:01 AM

My new chest freezer will be delivered tomorrow. I will let it stabilise over the weekend and stock it come Monday. List to come! But I foresee a trip to the local butcher and BJs coming up!

Mostly the impossibility of peeling them. And the fact that they don't defrost as much as they melt. Once a banana has been frozen, it can never be thawed into a normal banana again. Try putting one of your frozen bananas in the sink and watching it thaw--you'll end up with an almost empty peel and a ton of liquid.

This sounds like it is in the realm of "don't try this at home" do you think you could just post an mpeg of it melting?

So the next question is WHY?

FOR GOD'S SAKE WHY?

Are they still viable for smoothies or are we into the slushie territory now?

I have made banana bread from them, but I think I blocked out the whole peeling process. There was that lost time episode though... :gray:

Clodfobble 06-23-2005 09:57 PM

I don't know how the liquefied banana would do in a smoothie, I just know I spent a long time sponging it all up off my refrigerator shelf. ;)

busterb 06-23-2005 10:15 PM

Left over cantalope? just freeze and eat like a popscycle? SP. I have deer meat, steak, pork loin, ground beef, bell peppers, okra, peas, blueberrys, brisket, shrimp, chicken breast, cube steak, pork chops, stri fri veges, and who gives a damn anyway?
When I put things in freezer down stairs, like leftovers, their, there? safe till I defrost again then dog food.

busterb 06-23-2005 10:18 PM

All that crap and just me & dog. Guess I need to work on my pickup lines huh? Only if the lady can wash dishes, I'll cook. :smack:

I am coming to your house.

I think I have about a dozen jeno's pizzas and some cheap pot pies. There might also be some old soup or beef/cabbage mixture for bierocks. Hmm....I am too lazy to look, so that is all. wait! There is some corn meal in there, too.

BigV 06-25-2005 12:51 AM

Hey Griff:

Thanks for this thread. I did a more careful inventory yesterday and found (!) a container of sliced turkey breast from last Thanksgiving. I put it in the fridge to defrost, thinking I'll give it to the dog. *ahem* Well, the dog and I shared it. It was delicious!

My sister was visiting w/ her dog and whenever Elfin B would drop food the dog would run over and slurp it up. My sister would look at me and say that's what dogs are for.

For the fridge, I'd recommend a Yo Quiro dog. errr a chihuahua! It would be like the dustbuster of the dog world.

A standard house vac would be a lab or something. A shop vac would be a Newfie or something, I guess.

Then again, I can't remember the last time I had to take my sponge to the vet.

3Foot, my rat terrier works great at clean up & dish washing, first cycle only. But she has a wake up call tomorrow. I got a new collar for her, 160 bucks. Lets see if I can get her attention now. I've heard that Jack Russells are even worst? About being hyper?

Carbonated_Brains 06-25-2005 09:46 PM

Leftover fava beans

Man, BusterB, Jacks are insane.

$160 for a collar? I guess since she can handle the first cycle, ok. But can that collar make coffee too? :D

not neccesarily.......my JRT is the long haired type. One of the most laid back dogs I've ever had.

TWO CONTAINERS OF GODIVA CHOCOLATE WITH CHOCOLATE HEARTS ICE CREAM! YES! HOORAY FOR THE PHOENIXVILLE ACME!

Of course, when I went to pay for them, their bar codes didn't come up in the system. So they had to scan a different flavor so I could pay. So now some computer program or drone will say, "Well, we shipped a bunch of choc/choc hearts, but nobody bought any, so stop ordering that flavor". *sigh*.
