6/3/2005: Baby elephant in waterfall
http://cellar.org/2005/elepfun.jpg
Friday was not meant to become "amazingly cloyingly cute animal pic day", but Sun_Sparkz sent along this one and well you know, for crying out loud, there's water shooting out of the little guy's trunk. Happy Friday. |
huh, i shoot water, milk, etc. out of my nose pretty frequentlywhile reading the cellar, but do i ever get to be the IOTD? noooooo-ooooooo.
cool pic, btw. |
Not to mention that huge goofy smile on his face.....
Happy Friday indeed! |

Gee golly, that's about the cutest gosh darn thing I've ever seen.
|
I could be wrong, but I swear I've seen this before, on the Jungle Cruise at Disney World. I think it's animatronic.
|
Google search for Disney Jungle Cruise
They look slightly different to me. Maybe one is real, or maybe they are at different parks. |
I think perth and glatt nailed it. this is a machine.
|
Perth gets all the credit. I just did a Google search.

I don't know. My bullshit detector may need recalibration, but the alarms went off as soon as I saw the pic. Something about the toenails bugs me. That and the familiar pose may have set me hunting for proof. I guess the mouth bothers me as well, like the mouth isn't open wide enough or something.
|
The rocks behind are different. The Disney ones are moss covered and look more streamlined. The IOD above is more like stacked boulders.
The Disney elephant is covered in algae. The IOD is clean. I think they are probably just different versions of the same ride, one in California, and one in another park. |
The Disney animatron isn't shooting water. But they are similar.
Do real elephants sit in that position? |

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who immediately thought it looked fake. But I still enjoyed it for the few minutes when I thought I must be wrong and that it really was a baby elephant. |
At this point, IotD in general gets faked 2-3 times a year. What's interesting is how everyone eventually debunks them in the thread. There is enough skepticism and collected intelligence in the group to work out what is real and what is not!
|
I always thought that was part of the fun of the IotD.
|
Whether the 'phant is real or not, the picture is real. It's a fun image, the kind that makes your inner child want ice cream......to drop on the sidewalk.(pavement to you people that spell funny)
|
Wow. The jungle cruise is one of the oldest attractions at Disneyland, and it still passes for a real elephant? The fact that a ride somewhere has an elephant in the exact same position should give it away.

And yet there are points discussed forever without reaching resolution. Where's the truth in those? |
Shit V, we don't want to solve all the mysteries of the universe...leave something for the kids to work on. My God Man, think of the children. :mg:
aside - Welcome to the Cellar, Dypok. |
A reliable source says that this elephant does not appear in the Jungle Cruise ride in Disneyland California. I guess you can't ruile out the other parks across the Atlantic, but it probably isn't the exact one from Florida either. The rocks are too red.

this should clear things up

Nice one cellarites.. Defame me!! Bring down my glorious addition to the IOTD!! The pic was sent to me in an email.. So it must be real!!
;) I dont care if its real or not.. i just think its the cutest darn thing! Chill out! Appreciate the fun.. |
after a little research (googleimages) i think the problem is in the squirting water... its coming out like a hose not like an elephants spray which is developed to keep them cool (usually sprayed on the back)
|
After looking at the two pictures side by side I am convinced it is the same elephant animatron. The IOTD image was taken when the site was newer and the ferns and moss hadn't grown up yet- that is why it looks "redder". But if you look at the height on the elephant where the rocks in the IOTD pic have seams, and look carefully under the waterfall on the Jungle ride pic, the lines are at the same height.
Also the "arms" are in the same wierd position. and the inner mouth looks the same. www.wdisneyw.co.uk/ photomkjc3.html has three photos of the attraction (low resolution). It looks like there is a duplicate waist deep in water in one of them. www.planetbr.com/ adve.html shows the rocks. www.mousehouseradio.com/ photos.htm has a good closeup |

Since we're all jaded by the fake cute baby elephant, here's a real one. From msnbc.com's "week in pictures" (June 2-9, #7).
|
THanks Peg. Now my inner child can go "Whoopee!" in peace.
|
Go down to elephant and girl forehead to forehead picture
I prefer the cute young girl with the older elephant from Coubert's Ashes and Snow exhibit. |
Thanks Karenv, great pictures on that site. :thumb:
