You don't speak English, you don't use 'u's, you make cwarfee, and you don't know what a pavement is! You speak American. :stickpoke

This is a butchered attempt in Paint. I don't have photoshop on this computer (moan, hiss, growl...)

You mean the material that covers roads, driveways, and parking lots?

Catwoman 05-16-2005 09:17 AM

"huh" is not a word in the Oxford English Dictionary and therefore doesn't count. Neither does 'cum'.

No, I mean the thing you walk on to avoid disrupting traffic. You call them 'sidewalks'. Do they walk? No! Do not personify inanimate objects by attaching subverbs!

ooh what an enjoyable afternoon of patriotism and provocation

BLB, what? Liberals can't believe that people that come to the States should speak English?

jaguar 05-16-2005 02:12 PM

syc - you're not making it any better on the cawfee ;)

Brianna, we come, it's longer :P

So how do the British pronounce it? Not you, b/c your English is probably as bastardized as ours. :)

CO - FEE. Not corfee, cawfee, caaafee, carfi.

And Brianna, I wouldn't say that.

elSicomoro 05-17-2005 06:21 AM

How is the first syllable pronounced? Long O? Short O?

jaguar 05-17-2005 07:22 AM

co as in 'cough', hard co. then fee is in parking infringement.

Catwoman 05-17-2005 08:00 AM

nice try jag, but he'll be sitting there with his brain all twizzled because he can't work out how 'coffee' could possibly contain a 'g'

Catwoman 05-17-2005 08:36 AM

No! Like Cops! or Cotton. I appreciate it is a hard thing to grasp.

Trilby 05-17-2005 09:21 AM

We pronounce "cough" as KAWF. And if that's how the British pronounce it, then that would make our pronunciations of "coffee" the same.

Based on what Catwoman says, the British pronounce "coffee" as someone in New England might. Okay...Perth, OC, Limey, UT and Katkeeper...help us out here. How do you remember "coffee" being pronounced, if you remember hearing it?

York 05-22-2005 03:24 AM

u take a K first , than an O(short), an F and than ee but pronounce ea (like in "T" ) here's my flag...

"Then go your ass back home, please?" Obviously we don't all speak English in America...

Troubleshooter 05-27-2005 05:29 PM

People in England don't all speak english, how can you expect an ex-colony to do any better?

xoxoxoBruce 05-31-2005 06:42 PM

Don't all parents hope their offspring will do better than them? Some even demand it.
