Did you see Kung Fu Hustle?
In the US, it's only out in New York and Los Angeles so far. It will open nationwide soon. The commercials look good.
I can't wait. I think it's gonna be great.
Any Kentucky Fried Movie fans in here? |
HELL YEAH!!
Bring it on! |
I saw an extended preview for it at Sin City. It looks like a funny flick, probably a rental tho.
What did Chinese audiences think of it?

Most Chinese media & fans think the movie is Chow's new best movie. Shaolin Soccer is a big failure.
Based soley on that last pic of the movie--I'd say I would like it.
And Kentucky Fried Movie was the GREATEST. Right up there with Holy Grail and Life of Brian! Now, Concentwate... |
It's a Stephen Chow movie, so I'm sure I'll go see it. I am amazed that it's getting a US release, given that Miramax nearly had to be beaten with clubs to let Shaolin Soccer be seen anywhere in America, but I'm not complaining.
I loved Shaolin Soccer. I will see Kung Fu Hustle as soon as possible. It looks awesome. :thumb:

Check out Ong Bak.
man, I eat this stuff up. I couldn't begin to tell you why though...
Saw the movie last night. Although as Jaq says, there are surely some cultural differences here that we don't "get" -- it was well worth the price of admission. Very funny at times, very amazing at times, and an enjoyable tale. The landlady (the woman in the last picture above) is excellent!
I have to wonder if this Stephen Chow has ever seen any of the classic Looney Tunes animation, or whether the cartoonish violence is just something that is universal. |
Hee. Just got back from it. What a trip. I loved all of the old fashioned film noir/cartoony music, and the style was great. Very funny.
I was literally in tears at one point (*rough quote* "Who threw this knife handle!?"). Hilarious. Lots of fun.
Did they leave the scene from "The Untouchables" in there?
It's been too long since I saw "The Untouchables". What scene was it?
*dying Sean Connery*What are you prepared to do!?!*/dying Sean Connery*
I don't think so... There are dying mentors, and motivated mentees, but I don't remember a scene like that. But I usually need to see something twice before having a good memory of most of it.
Ah...
It's the scene where the last of the first three masters is dying and the landlord and lady are talking about having given up martial arts. It's actually two ripoffs in one scene... 'With great power comes great responsibility' and 'what are you prepared to do', all from the same guy as he's dying. A job very well done. |
You've jogged my memory! That scene was indeed in the movie.
That's cool, I was hoping so.
The first fight scene sort of reminds me of Callahan's Crosstime Saloon as well. |
and another Jet Li, Morgan Freeman, Bob Hoskins festival of ass kicking--Unleashed.

er. . . didn't like it much. It was a movie that couldn't decide exactly what it was, and I'm not a big fan of bizarro comedies. Sorry.
When I saw the beginning of Kung Fu Hustle, I know I was mystified and wondered if I really wanted to watch it. I did watch the whole thing, though, and loved it. An excellent movie.
