best meal of my life...

Dman it, I couldn't find the posting drunk thread, so this'll have to do...I know it's still winter, but I was craving some grilled steak...After 2 glasses of chianti, we finally fired up the charcoal grill. Then, I made a 10 oz prime rib and arsen grilled a 10 oz porterhouse. I also made home fries for me and onion rings for arsen. Then I had two more glasses of shiraz and a gorgeous beautiful steak dinner, and I am completely lit, but I just wanted to share the best dinner of my life with you guys :) anyone else want to brag? Anyone else here lit up like a christmas tree at 4 pm??

staceyv 03-20-2005 03:29 PM

I know I'll regret this tomorrow...

lumberjim 03-20-2005 03:47 PM

i plan on getting a little tuned in after the kids are in bed. does that count?

and can you prove that you;re drunk? ;)

cjjulie 03-20-2005 07:54 PM

I wish I was lit! Does that count.....Cheers to you :3eye: (how many eyes do I have?) ;)

zippyt 03-20-2005 08:04 PM

sorry guys, I passed out...Actually, Arsen did take some pictures. My apartment looks like crap, but the meat looks GOOD. I never realized how big my forehead looks with my hair like that, god, I shouldn't have chopped my bangs off- I have to look that THAT for a friggin year now?!

I was talking through my teeth there: "take the friggin picture so I can eat!"

staceyv 03-20-2005 10:27 PM

he he he. I just read my previous post and realized how uncalled for all the hair comments were. For some reason, my self esteem revolves around my hair. It's a twisted issue that I've been struggling with for 3 years now. Wish me luck.
By the way, I'm sober now-damn it.

Sat night we went to Red Lobster for my birthday dinner, and I can honestly say the only thing that would have made my meal any better is if it had been free. The iced tea wasn't too weak or too strong, the croutons on the salad were awesome and actually plentiful, their cheddar bay biscuits are never a dissapointment, my broiled cod was out of this world tender and moist, and the vanilla bean cheesecake was to die for. For the rest of the night I was in heaven, full to the brim, but not uncomfortably so.

We grill out all winter long, just pull it into the garage when the weather is really bad...

staceyv 03-21-2005 10:27 AM

Happy belated birthday!!

russotto 03-21-2005 01:26 PM

I went to Mortons on Friday. Can't say it was the best meal of my life, but they are the best steak in the area. Yum, yum, yum.

Can't wait 'till grilling season when I can make my own. Can't beat Morton's but I can sure do as well as most of the other steakhouses.

staceyv 03-21-2005 01:50 PM

I can definitely say that mine was better than chili's! I believe a good piece of meat needs only a little pepper and butter, then salt after it's cooked and rested. perfect! Arsen, on the other hand, insisted on rubbing steak seasoning all over his, then dousing it with balsamic vinagrette, THEN, after it was cooked, A1 sauce. I call him the condiment king. But he did like it...

Undertoad 03-21-2005 02:01 PM

He comes from a culture where a lot of the meat was sold past its "sell by" date.

I'll marinate or season most steaks. But every once in a while, I like to go to Whole Foods and get a fat, fresh steak. I take it directly home and toss it on a charcoal grill and cook it to medium. Eat that with a good baked potato and a couple of beers to wash it down. The only seasoning involved is the salt on the potato skin. Good, good stuff.

lookout123 03-21-2005 04:01 PM

is it just me or are you wearing a coat in the house while you eat? keep in mind that i have a hard time with these things as i've been wearing shorts and tshirts for the past few weeks.

my wife has some marinade that is almost orgasmic. she won't tell me what it is, i don't really care. anything that causes your eyes to roll in different directions and you are afraid to eat in front of kids must be good, right?

she also made crabstuffed porkchops this weekend. :yum:

I too was wondering...

staceyv 03-22-2005 08:27 AM

yeah, we couldn't pay the gas bill and the heat got turned off...

(just kidding!!)
actually, I was outside grilling my steak, and as soon as it was done I ran in and started plating everything up and then started to eat without bothering to take my coat off. I actually have my coat on right now, because I just got back from bringing Arsen to work... I like to be warm.

Sun_Sparkz 03-22-2005 08:08 PM

Stacy your meat isnt cooked!! and there are red bits on your chips??

?

Clodfobble 03-22-2005 09:20 PM

The red bits are because the potatoes were red-skinned potatoes. And that steak is in the range of what we'd call "rare" to "medium-rare," which is plenty cooked. :yum:

staceyv 03-22-2005 09:23 PM

that made me laugh :)
Yeah, that steak sure was med-rare. I actually threw it back on the grill after I cut into it. I'm a medium-well girl.

Sun_Sparkz 03-22-2005 10:02 PM

glad to hear you threw it back on.. it was still mooing!!

red skinned potatos huh? never heard of em, they looked like they were bloodsoaked from the mooer!

Stace your hair looks great!? enough!

best cut into large cubes, skin on, and baked with real butter and fresh dill. mmmmm, mmmmmm

Clodfobble 03-23-2005 09:20 AM

Sun_Sparkz is an Aussie, I bet her produce section is too busy being full of things way crazier than red-skinnned potatoes. :)

LabRat 03-23-2005 12:24 PM

'duh' to me... guess i better change my user title...

i'd say that the barbarian style fork hold in that one picture where you're cutting your steak serves as proof of drunkeness. good job.

btw, the steak looked fine. redder the better. just not purple.....or green.

Trilby 03-23-2005 01:51 PM

If I were to be put to death tonight I would ask for filet mignon (MR), hash browns with sour cream, stewed tomatoes, salad with blue cheese, rolls and shit loads of vodka. And an everlasting gobstopper.
