Cellar Field of 64 #2: Comedy films
Newbs reminder: the first Cellar Field of 64 was Breakfast Cereals
Our new Field of 64 is Comedy Films. All are free to NOMINATE comedies that you feel should be in the top 64. Post your nominations in this thread. Please limit yourself to no more than 20 nominations. Duplicate nominations will count as "votes" and figure into the seeding. You may stagger your nominations in order to think about them, or to add votes to films you hadn't thought of. Nominations will close tomorrow at 11:59 PM EST. For those in other time zones, that's just over one day and 6 hours from the time of this post. Nominations made after that time will not count. My first nominations: Groundhog Day Monty Python and the Holy Grail Annie Hall Kingpin Raising Arizona Office Space Caddyshack |

The Birdcage and La Cage aux Folle have to be treated as separate films.
Because, well, they are. La Cage is amusing. The Birdcage is as funny as shit. |
I just wanted to give acknowledgement that one begat the other...although I guess I sort of put them in the wrong order.

All film titles I repeat should be read as "seeding votes" since I agree with many exisiting nominations.
1 -- The Gods Must Be Crazy (The "anti-christ" Land Rover at the gate is exquisite physical comedy) 2 -- Me, Myself, and Irene 3 -- Young Frankenstein (What Knockers!) 4 -- Modern Times (Chaplin, the father of physical comedy) 5 -- A Fish Called Wanda (What was that part in the middle?) /retires to think of 15 more.../ |

Vegas Vacation Once Bitten Zorro the Gay Blade Top Secret It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World oops....I'm late. There are some movies that don't qualify as comedies on the list though like Forrest Gump and As good as it gets. How does one vote? |
You wait for me to say....
Airplane!, or Tommy Boy? |
Airplane!
|
tommy boy..."fat guy in a litttle coat"......i try to live my life by that axiom
|
Airplane
|
Only the first answer per game is accepted!
Forrest Gump, or As Good As It Gets? |
Run, Forrest!!!
Forrest Gump. |
Tommy Boy didn't even belong on the same court. It must have gotten an automatic entry by winning its conference tourney.
|
aw, nuts! tommy boy is great! it is truly unfortunate that it went up against airplane in the first round. don't you remember - tommy takes a little while to find his groove, but once he's in the zone....
|
Caddyshack, or Real Genius?
|
real genius
|
Forrest Gump isn't even a comedy, I mean I smiled over it a few times but definately not a gut busting laugh fest.
|
Lord how could you pick Real Genius over Caddyshack? Real Genius is amusing. Caddyshack has some all time great moments in comedy.
|
Quote:
And i'm surprised that Real Genius beat out Caddyshack. Both are good, but Caddyshack is a classic. So it's got that going for it, which is nice. |
real genius remains one of the funniest movies of the '80's IMO. it is a hard decision between that and caddyshack, but i went with my gut. (maybe because it is more forgotten and not as overplayed as every line of caddyshack?)
|
lines like "can you drive a 6 inch nail through a board with your penis?"
|
they still make me laugh! i guess it boils down to that if i'm flipping throught the channels and see caddyshack i keep going, i run across real genius and i'm going to leave it there. maybe absence makes the funny bone more sensitive?
|
Office Space, or The Meaning of Life?
|
OFFICE SPACE!
|
Whoa, whoa, whoa...

First answer after your question wins the round? You mean you want me to stalk you to ensure the will of the people is enforced? The winner of a given round is the movie that is selected in the first reply to your "tip-off"? I don't think I understand this right. Even the nomination process was...democratic permitting "votes" to determine the seeding process. Please explain it so me and my small smooth brain  gets it too. Pretty-please? Thanks. |
