GasHead info

Well, the CD's done and coming out later this month, barring any problems at the manufacturing level. Let me know how I can serve your metal needs.

By the way, we just put up a bit of a band-community kind of page on myspace.com. Here's the link to us if'n yer interested. Make us look popular!

This will get updated much more often than the "real" website, which is kind of a pain in the ass.

lumberjim 02-02-2005 09:00 PM

are you Mike?

mrnoodle 02-03-2005 11:59 AM

nope i'm derek

xoxoxoBruce 02-11-2005 10:54 PM

I'm waiting.

mrnoodle 02-22-2005 08:53 AM

CD's in!

Buy it here

Or, here

Dunno if it's actually up on the sites yet, but if you ever want one, there's where to go :)

xoxoxoBruce 02-22-2005 07:34 PM

I ordered some. :D

mrnoodle 02-23-2005 08:57 AM

\m/

thanks bruce, you rock

cowhead 02-23-2005 04:00 PM

hey, I was wondering if you had checked out garageband.com or myspace.com they are really good places to get your music heard.. and any press is good press.. right? my old band was on garageband ( http://www.garageband.com/slurry ) and I know a ton of bands on myspace (burial at sea and a ton of others).. might be worth checking out

mrnoodle 02-23-2005 04:16 PM

slurry rocks! thanks for the info - hadn't heard of garagebands.

we're on myspace, though

I noticed that we were getting a bunch of other rock bands to be our friends, but no girls. The obvious solution was to beg every hot 20-year-old female friend of a friend of a friend to add us to their list. The results can be seen on our front page :D

just signed up a week ago. everyone come be our friend, even if you're not a hot 20-year-old girl.

cowhead 02-24-2005 02:28 PM

do you ever tour? there are a number of places here in town that do live music (actually I know this is an aberation for most of the country.. people here get annoyed with bands playing!) I need to check your site out now that you said slurry rocks.. as I wrote most of the music..uh so thanks? :) If you did come here I could more than likely get you a place to stay.. not here as it's too small for me and my cats, but I know a few people.. just a thought.

ps. tried to hit your site but firefox doesn't seem to like it, I'll try again later.. good luck and if you need equipment let me know I have a friend who is selling an '88 marshall 50 watt 1/2 stack for pretty cheap (my dream amp..and for what he's asking. . .) I just can't afford it right now

cowhead 02-24-2005 02:32 PM

fort collins!!! oh wow.. one of my favorite bands (drag the river) is from there.. duh I guess you know that... man they play here about once a year at my bar.. well not MY bar.. but the one I frequent.. if you ever run into snodgrass.. if he asks you what's up? respond by saying ' a fistfull of nothing' he might get it again..

lookout123 02-24-2005 03:27 PM

oh yeah, well one of my favorite (disbanded) bands was from Lawrence -

Coalesce...

mrnoodle 02-24-2005 04:49 PM

hey, i like drag the river. haven't seen one of their gigs in a year at least, though. I'd love to tour if we could get a steady bassist - our hired gun is really good, but is completely over the touring thing (he's been doing this since he was 15 or so, in one band or another). When we get our act together, i'll definitely hit you up.

how much for the half stack? would he just sell the cab?

cowhead 02-25-2005 01:48 AM

hmmm I play a little bass.. and I have nothing holding me here.. altough i know better bass players. uh if you like I can get you some phone numbers and such.. touring sucks (okay I liked it!) but the married members of my band didn't..anyway! enjoyed the music! like I said if you need I might be able to point you in the direction of a decent bass player (and wiling to travel)

cowhead 02-25-2005 01:55 AM

if you need a 4x12.. uh there is one sitting in our pracitce space.. been there for about 3 years.. heh.. I'd have to look at again to tell you what it is... been there so long I forgot :)) sound desigh i think? he was playing a spider 6 and running it thru that other than tha ( I run a Marshall Valvestate or Johnson marquee 60 combo) so I haven't been paying attention.. my gear I have and love. hell thoiugh if you're that close let me see. (i've tried tosee if the owner wants it back but 3 years!!.. uh you could more than likely have it cheap, if you wanted to drive here.. it's be cheaper than shipping) (sorry a bit buzzed let me iknow though)

cowhead 02-25-2005 01:58 AM

sorry for the bad spelling.. I mean it though

xoxoxoBruce 02-26-2005 01:48 AM

Damn Hippies. :stickpoke

xoxoxoBruce 02-26-2005 09:53 PM

Today the USPS brought forth, Gashead – Knuckles Avec Sombreros, and it was (is) good!
Nice sturdy jewel box, shrink wrapped but without that annoying damn holographic seal.
Cool artwork and while the guys were recording, Amy went down to the slums and took pictures of some derelicts for the little booklet. She even took some prop instruments for them to pose with.

Well, if the band doesn’t work out they can open a restaurant, because these boys cooook!
While I’ve taken the liberty of kidding them a little about the pictures, they’ll have the last laugh because I can almost guarantee I’m going to get a speeding ticket listening to this CD.
Screw it...it’s worth it!

mrnoodle 02-28-2005 09:59 AM

Ya know, it's funny you should mention restaurants and derelicts. Every band should have at least one cool practice space in their history, and that was ours.

We used to rent the basement of a diner in "downtown" Greeley, CO as our practice space. The little stair I'm sitting on in the picture actually goes to a tunnel that runs under the highway to a basement across the way. As the story goes, it was used for one of two things: as an escape tunnel for the prohibition-era liquor runners that had set up shop there (either across the street or in our basement - not sure which), or an access/escape for patrons of the brothel that was run in "our" basement. I know it was a brothel at one time, but I can't vouch for the booze-running story.

Anyway, the place was dank, cold, and we expected to find bodies in the walls when we were searching around for electrical outlets to plug amps into.

What made it so cool for a hard rock band is that Pete (the owner of the diner), had used the basement for a haunted house the prior Halloween, and had left a bunch of the stuff up (the wizard/monk/whatever guy in one of the pics was one prop). There were fake cobwebs, since it was too bloody cold for real spiders.

Bruce, like I told cowhead: if there's ever a GasHead army, you can pick out your own tank to drive. Hell, you might get a division. \m/
Right now I'm the only one who even owns guns, so "army" might be a forward-looking term

btw cowhead, i might be interested in that cabinet if the price is right - plus if i come out to buy it you can buy me a PBR at your favorite rock joint.

xoxoxoBruce 03-01-2005 12:49 PM

Quote:

That's OK, I've got enough for the whole band...and groupies....stagehands...spouses/SOs....both hands. ;)
btw- ex-girlfriend's kid has hooked up with Amos Lee and will be on Letterman Wed 3-2. They are opening for the Dylan Tour this spring.

cowhead 03-02-2005 05:12 AM

I was wondering something.. if you like drag the river, have you looked into Lucero?

cowhead 03-02-2005 05:20 AM

shit if it's still there.. you can more than likely just have it.. it's been sitting in Mikes garage for 3 years (Mike is the other slurry guitar player) I'll ask him and get back to you on that.. and yeah.. I'll buy you a pbr at my favorite watering whole.. http://www.replaylounge.com/ damn bass players! ah well... you never know, it's close enough. I don't know who is doing the booking right now (there has been a bit of an employee shake up as it were, but there or the jackpot (the replays sister bar) would be a good place not to get screwed.. the bottleneck... damn! we opened for DRI a few years ago, 15$ ticketmaster bullshit.. the place was packed! uh.. we got 50$ which I wasn't too unhappy about I got to drink a beer with DRI! (old hero's !) and met the guys from 8 buck experiment.. nice bunch of fellas.. oh by the by papa roach are/is a bunch of pretentious jerks) ah war stories! I could go at it for a while! care to chew the fat?

mrnoodle 03-02-2005 10:10 AM

Never heard of Lucero.

Nate has played with DRI in the past, too. He has tons of war stories from his Mandrake days. The only stuff I can relate is after-party stuff, but not with any famous people. but chew away! I like stories. I'll get natedog on here sometime to tell about playing with cradle of filth. i think he uses the internet about once every 6 months.

hey there may be stories in the future, though. there's already lots of underground chatter about the upcoming gig, and we're getting a friday drive-time plug on KBPI. hell, we should do charity gigs all the time :D all we need now is a bassist. Got a couple auditioning in the coming weeks. Right now I'm playing for shit, I hope I get loose before Friday...

cowhead 03-08-2005 04:21 PM

well. war stories? wow.. uh let me dust off those braincells to see if they still work.. okay, well lets start with a shoulda been story.. okay, we had been getting radioplay on one of the local stations (klzr.. which used to kick some ass, but they switched from a good format to a top 40 one a few years ago.. to attract the lucrative topkea market..uh.. right..) SO! having been around for a while, we had gotten a little bit of a following, actually it was mainly people booking shows who liked us :) not so much the general public. things as far as we had seen it were kinda drying up, and my ex g/f at the time was begging me to move to S.Carolina and the other guitar player was just finishing his schoolin' and getting ready to move to LA. (where he still is).. so both guitar players headed to opposite coasts... well.. I come back the next winter to visit the folks for xmass.. run into our lead singer, and after babbling for a while he tells me that right after I moved (and Seth was still here!) a concert promoter had approached him about us opening for Green Day (at memorial Hall.. seats about 12,000) on the dookie tour.. and he didn't call me.. 'cuz he didn't think I'd want to play that show.. uh, I would have eaten my own foot (with sriracha of course) to play that show. (although in all honesty playing infront of that many people would have been terrifying) so suffice to say I have never let him live that down

cowhead 03-08-2005 04:29 PM

and hell yeah! charity gigs!! man... I don't think I can recall how many we played, although the ones that were the most fun was one for breast cancer (I don't know about you, but I like breats :)) ) and the other two were ones that we started, the original idea was that since most of us were getting older and don't want to go out all the time (or can't due to familial obligations) that one sunday up at the skate park we would get bands to come up and play.. just as an excuse to get out and grill, skate and rock out. well the first one was great! we got 10 local bands to come out and play for free (although there were a couple of booths for habitat for humanity and operation wildlife that people could donate if they felt like it) it went off without a hitch.. so we tried it again next year, also went off without a hitch, the downside was that we had to turn bands away from playing.. we had 30 some bands wanting to play from all over the two state area... guess we got good press from it.. the thing that sucked is that the city heard about it also, and demanded that if we were going todo it again we had to get 500k in insurance... so it was either get corporate sponsorship or quit.. well.. we didn't have another one.. which sucks. although I've been working on doing a mybabydaddy day show :) as I know a ton of single mothers (and not in the biblical sense..damnit!) and all the punk rock kids ought to get to know one another. damn, I am a liberal aren't I?

xoxoxoBruce 03-08-2005 06:07 PM

Cowhead, maybe you could talk the city into sponsoring an "open mic for bands" day. ;)

404Error 03-08-2005 07:19 PM

I was sitting around today loading songs on my new iPod and got into listening to some Satriani tunes. It made me think of this thread so I finally got off my ass and ordered the Land Speed Record CD from the BitterRivals.com site. Can't wait to play it on the iPod!

xoxoxoBruce 03-08-2005 07:55 PM

You should have ordered Knuckles Avec Sombreros also. Git on it. :D

404Error 03-08-2005 08:09 PM

Damn it. I probably should've ordered both at once, I don't know what I was thinking.

Oh wait...that's the problem, I wasn't thinking. :o

mrnoodle 03-08-2005 11:48 PM

yes, knuckles is the new one. LSR is good too, i'm just not playing on it, so i don't get the ego boost. I'll let mike know you care though :D

404Error 03-09-2005 09:03 AM

OK, I didn't want to bruise your fragile ego, Noodle, so I ordered Knuckles Avec Sombreros too. ;) (shoulda done that in the first place and saved the extra shipping charge but, oh well.)

I got the order confirmation before the order form even finished printing! I hope it ships just as fast.

mrnoodle 03-09-2005 09:12 AM

I'll hook you up. PM me the name you ordered under and we'll send em out together. We're not what you'd call a large operation :)

unless you ordered from best buy or something. they don't ask us....

Thanks very much 404, we really appreciate the support. Hope you like the music.

xoxoxoBruce 03-09-2005 05:44 PM

He will. ;)

Elspode 03-11-2005 10:58 AM

I have just finished listening to "Knuckles Avec Sombreros", gifted to me by a kind pal.

Superior shred in every respect! Jam on, Gashead, and Mr. Noodle.

cowhead 03-13-2005 11:46 PM

Lawrence? city of a thousand bands? open mic.. yeah.. oddly enough our city has a really bi-polar disorder when it comes to the arts... (unless city sponsored.. they built a huge ugly ass art megaplex that no one uses (other than the west side of towners..aka. the people with money and barrels full given the current property rates.. if anyone is thinking of doing the realty thing.. Larryvillle is a hotbed of moeny grubbing bastards.. not that I'm bitter)) if you want to get a rough Idea of what music is going on here check out lawrence.com and take a peek at the mp3 page or the local listings.. this is the only place I have ever lived that when walking into a bar people ask (with a grimmace..) "is there a band tonite?" and then fucking bitch about having to pay 2$ for some kick ass (for the most part) live music! they don't know how good they have it... on a side note, my other guitar player and I just hooked up with a bad ass drummer.. so there might be some new Slurry coming the worlds way soon! (not that the world cares :)) ) oh! Mr. Noodle! have you signed your band up to the a.) worldwidebandregistry.com (saves your name! in case someone else wants to use it) and b.) garageband.com (fuck! if Trucker (from Salina Ks.) can get a show in LA... on TV.. from that then it's worth a shot!) and anyway! I'll be driving the A1 Abrahms if you ever get an army. (sorry kinda rambling.. the big 12 tourney has been hellish at work)

mrnoodle 03-14-2005 09:55 AM

ahhh yea. I keep forgetting to do garageband.com

and i've not heard of worldwidebandregistry.com -- going raht this minute to check 'im out.

I do! I got the CD's in the mail yesterday along with a refund for the extra postage. You really didn't have to do that, MrNoodle but thanks for hooking me up by putting the orders together and such a quick turn around!

As for the music, all I can say is AWESOME! While Land Speed Record is excellent, I'm glad I got Knuckles too cause it really rocks!

Thanks again!

cowhead 03-17-2005 09:38 AM

the paycheck after next I'll be buying the CD.. promise! we finally found a drummer that fits the bill (aka. over 25 and has no delusions of being a rockstar.. has a real job and can remain sober for more than 20 minutes :) and rocks the fuck out.. so hopefully in a couple of months there will be new Slurry (3.0)

do do the garageband thing.. and post here when you do, I'll tell everyone I know to listen to it and vote on the good side (well.. how they vote will be their own decision.. but you'll get a bunch of hits, our Slurry mailing list was pretty extensive)

Undertoad 03-17-2005 09:55 AM

It just struck me that this entire thread should be in the "creative expression" section... which we started after noodle started the thread... mind if I move it there, nood?

home to the now defunct, but once great Coalesce. screwy time signatures and a live show that packed a nasty punch.

cowhead 03-17-2005 11:19 AM

Mr. Toad.. move it where you like we'll find it (and still a thousand thank you's for doing this.. if you are ever in larryville I'll get you full of food and BBQ or whatever food you like)

coalsce rocked.. there are a bunch of bands you might want to watch out for from here right now... Esoteric, Theta (oh... sweet gawd), burial at sea, almost automatic (my old drummers band....young kids rocking the fuck out. like rise against but with more energy if that's possible)

if you want Mp3's for that hit lawrence.com

drunk early.. sorry..not really :) yes land of a thousand bands.. this (like I said.. I think) is the only place I have ever lived that people say "aw Fuck! there's band tonite?!?!" and as a muscian (although not as good as Mrnoodle...it kinda hurts) seriously walk into the replay or taproom you can't throw a rock (or a beer bottle) without hittting a musician or playwrite (right?) why are we all drunks is what I want to know? (me cuz I need to sleep) anyway...... if you need.. shit... have you heard Kill Creek? or Kill Whitey? or oh sweet shit if you have a yahoo account (and I'm sure you do :) ) i can send you music..oh I feel a new thread!

please do. not sure if that section existed when i posted this. or if it did, i didn't know about it....

lookout123 03-17-2005 11:41 AM

cowhead - esoteric = excellence. they play shows with my old crew in illinois every time they roll through (which seems to be every 8 minutes) with Hope & Suicide.

Coalesce used to play shows up there quite a bit too. in the glory days of the Fireside Bowl in Chicago. (absolute dive bowling alley that had hardcore shows all the time and doubled as the police precinct in some brandon lee movie.)

i don't have a yahoo account. i do have hotmail and a rarely used gmail account, though.

congrats on the new drummer.....still looking for a bassist here. we're starting to get gigs now, but can't really commit until we're sure mike olson can get those nights open to play with us.

thank goodness for real jobs.

Just think how decadent you'd be if you didn't have to get up in the morning.

BTW, friend's kid that I mentioned here will be on Leno's show either this Wed or the next with Amos Lee. :)

it's in this month's Westword, which is a locally famous entertainment/alternative paper.

thanks guys :)

wolf 04-18-2005 09:47 AM

Just received my copy via the nice people at amazon.com :)

It currently occupies position #1 in my car cd changer.

I am up to track 4 on my first listen.

Wow.

It's absolutely lovely hearing music like that unspoiled by the addition of an unnecessary, shrieking, hoarse tenor.

mrnoodle 06-20-2005 04:17 PM

Rough Edge, a metal/hard rock website that I had never heard of until recently, but is quite plugged into the scene, will be playing one of our songs on its radio-webcast thingy this Tuesday and Thursday. They also wrote us a nice review which was awfully good of them (they're big supporters of unsigned acts, for which all of us thank them profusely).

Whether GH be your hard rock flavor of choice or not, roughedge.com is a sweet site -- everything from black metal to punk to classic AC/DC and such. Tons of reviews, and I'm looking forward to listening in to more than one of their radio shows. Besides our song (whose name they messed up, oh well), the playlist for tomorrow includes Bruce Dickenson, Anthrax, Motorhead, Judas Priest, and several other old skool headbangers, as well as some other unheard-of bands. I, of course, will be fantasizing that I'm actually listening to KNAC instead of web radio.

xoxoxoBruce 06-21-2005 01:53 PM

Let's see...hmmm, tonight is JUDAS PRIEST, AC/DC, ANTHRAX, DEEP PURPLE, BLUE OYSTER CULT, etc. At least they will be in good company. ;)

mrnoodle 11-02-2005 09:33 AM

Wow, long time since we did anything, apparently. It's been hard because we can't seem to schedule gigs that work with our hired-gun bassist. Oh well, we have someone coming to check us out Thursday, so maybe this time we'll find the right combination of talent and attitude.

Anyhoo, I'm all psyched today -- we get to open a show for a guitar hero of ours, George Lynch, on Dec. 13. This would have been orgasm-inducing in high school and college, but now it's kind of scary. A whole crowd full of guitar nerds staring at you, waiting to be impressed -- I don't know why I should be bothered by that, really, but I am... Mike does most of the solo work, so I'll wait for my ~4 solos with great trepidation.

We're writing vocal stuff too, and are trying (begging) a friend from another band, Kronow, to come close our set with us. We would have a Testament cover and 1...maybe 2.... originals ready to go, and it would be a great way to debut them. He's recording with us on those so we can send out a demo to shop for singers.

Problem is, with the bassist scheduling conflicts, we've had to turn down about a show a month for the last 6 months (including one in November), so the "big deal" gig will be the first time we've played live in eons. That adds to the stress level. We're probably going to bust in on some open mic nights between now and then to just get the feeling back.

Anyway. George Lynch \m/ w00t.

xoxoxoBruce 11-15-2005 05:12 AM

I missed this post, Noodle.
Opening act? That can be a plus. If the crowd is mostly George Lynch devotees they may not be closely scrutinizing the opening act.
Oh, they'll hear you, and after a tune or two you'll have their full attention, but they probably won't expect that much and will gloss right over a mis-pluck or two.
So do your thing, have fun, meet George Lynch and try not to trip over the ladies underwear piling up on stage. :D

mrnoodle 01-27-2006 11:30 AM

Okay guys. Make sure you're all at the next gig -- the death metal BBQ at the Larimer Lounge. Clip and save your ticket, it will save you literally hundreds of cents at the door.

Break a leg, mrnoodle!

(I don't know how to offer good wishes more fervently without jinxing it, so I'll just hang up.)

mrnoodle 08-29-2006 10:00 AM

If you guys want, you can go to KBPI.com and vote for us for the "Best Band in Denver" contest. I promise to personally wash each of your cars. The song we put up was "Juarez," and I think it sounds pretty different and polished compared to some of the entries. I kinda like our chances for getting into the top 18 at least (that's the level we need to achieve to move on to the next round -- live performances). If we win, I think they put us in the rotation for airplay and maybe give us some stuff.

That would be cool

edit: You can hear the songs now, but I don't think you can vote until September 1, though.

Undertoad 08-29-2006 10:42 AM

Very cool, very original, very metal!

People will get whiplash at 0:30 and again at 3:33. I don't remember the last time I heard a band going all-out like that. Extreme!

wolf 08-29-2006 10:45 AM

Please make sure that you bump this on 9/1/06 for the voting, yah?

I still love the CD and will have no problem voting for you.
