Are Redheads Better?
I've recently become a redhead and have notice a 50% increase in Male Attention since changing. Anyone have a preference or similar story? (LJ excepting) :ivy:
|
I love redheads.
|
Love as in "want to have sex with", or love as in "I've a lot of relatives with red hair and I love them in a platonic way."
:doit:-----my favorite smilie...! |
Just take a wild guess. :luv:

I would if I were savvy (ask wolf and she, between gales and/or peals of laughter, will tell you) and had some way to scan, which I've no idea how to do--my printer (came with my awesome emachine! isn't even hooked up--am without a man and without any 'puter savvy. sorry! if could get it hooked up and knew what I was doing I would definitely post a pic! THEN i would be able to host a hoe-down!! ;)
|
All I'm gonna say to that is, if you did have a man, you might STILL not have any computer savvy available!
(There's always snail mail.) |
Hmmm...I generally prefer dark hair, but I could go for a redhead.
|
Mrs. Elspode is what I like to refer to as a "redhead by choice" (or what she refers to as "the rug not matching the curtains, which is actually much funnier). I am the person who dyes her hair, and by golly, I love it! I've always been a major redhead fan, in fact. Also, there seem to be a lot of witches who are either redheads by nature or choice, so that works out well!
Yeah, guys like redheads, Bri. Let us know when it pays off? :) |
OK!! Hoping it willl pay off by, like, this coming weekend!!
|
For the record, redheads are my kryptonite, too. Have been since I started paying attention to such things (around age 12). There's no logic, there's no explanation, they just really blow my mind.
Gentlemen may prefer blondes, but Real Guys Like Redheads |
I tried the redhead thing for a while, and it was great fun! People (men) did treat me differently as a redhead. Complete strangers would walk up to me on the street and start talking about redheads. Here's a little redhead joke:
The mating call of the blond: "Hi, I'm blond!" The mating call of the brunette: "Have all the blonds left yet?" The mating call of the redhead: "Next!" ;) |
So.......is the prejudice against redheads just an English thang? Being a redheaded child is up there with eczema, acne and smelling of wee when it comes to bullying in an English school
In fact I had a friend a few years ago who was ....well racist, not to put too fine a point on it. He used to say "I'd shag a black bird before I'd shag a ginger " .....since he was living on and off with a half Jamaican lass at the time, I took him at his word. I think red can look amazing, depending on the shade. Full on ginger though looks better on a woman :P |

there are different types of "'red" too. flaming red? not so attractive. a deep red with darker skin... mmm, lookout!

The only red I don't like is the "Clown Orange"--but those sexy clown feet--Mmmmm! :heartpump:
Really turns a gal on! |

If you see a real (rug match) redhead, that has no freckles and pink areolae, tell her I'd like to buy her an automobile.
|
oh yeah xoB, a red head with no freckles.....
I'll have what you're having :) (I'm a chestnuty auburn with a dusting of freckles....oh hell, make that more like a blizzard - and i'm not telling you the rest *G*) |
Red heads & rednecks go well together, long as you know who has the gun.
|
Let me let you guys in on the horrible side effects that accompany red hair.
I have red hair. I'm male. Redhead females are insanely attractive, in my eyes. But, the caveat. You know what people think when they see a man and woman with red hair kiss? "Wow, that guy is KISSING HIS SISTER." This is my curse. |
Ah, my son shall no doubt inherit this curse! He's one of those redheads with 1,000 freckles and blue eyes. When I was pregnant with him his father sealed Danny's fate by looking at me and proclaiming, "This kid better not have red hair!" a virtual guarantee of red-headedness.
|
Oh I love these deep philosophical discussions. I'm a brunette. Does this make me more or less attractive than a blond? What if I had short hair? Would this affect my overall attractiveness or should I consider growing it even longer? Should I get an all-over dye or highlights? Lets compare and contrast the merits of lowlights versus slices. And that's my thinking done for today. My brain hurts.
|
CW, now you're skewing this into a discussion of what makes a woman beautiful, and, as we all know, physical appearance is only a smallish percentage of that whole concept.
|
Hmm. Don't know if my sarcasm was picked up on. Of course appearance maketh the woman not. I just found it funny that there was a thread about hair colour in the philosophy section. Next there'll be topics on the morality of lipstick and logical improbability of stockings.
|
Stockings are probable, it's pantyhose that's improbable.
|
I'm not too picky about hair colour. I'm kind of thinking that I would like to date a blonde this time around, but as long as she has a sparkling laugh and eyes I could get lost in, I'll be happy. I have a friend obsessed with redheads and one obsessed with blondes, and I've seen them both rebuff girls obviously interested in them because their hair was the "wrong colour". Needless to say, they're both single, and probably will be for the forseeable future. Well, they will, if there's any justice in this world. :D
|
Tell them to act like arrogant pricks and treat women like objects, then they'll have babes dangling off them.
//bitter |
I have found myself in the path of a few redheads in my day, probably more than most. In fact, I married one.
She would like to point out that about 2% of the Earth's population have red hair... The country with the highest number is Scotland with 13 percent, followed closely by Ireland at 10 percent. Value in scarcity, eh? Of course, the question this thread posed is whether redheads are better. Yes, they are. But is the hair color the cause, or the effect? There's your philosophy question. |

I'm surrounded by 'em...One of my best friends, my husband, daughter, boss and spouse, and 1 of their 2 sons are all natural red heads. All more toward the orange/strawberry blonde side than auburny. Tho as my girl gets older, the top is getting darker and the underneath where the hair was rubbed off as an infant is getting a lot more blonde. Odd. I was hoping that if she was a girl it would be red b/c my hair is a shitty dishwater blonde color, blech. My hubby was the first to introduce me to the phrase "curtains match the carpet" and i still snort every time i hear it. The new smilies rock!
as for do they get more attention, my bf does get a lot more than me, but i'm sure it's the huge difference in cleavage that does it :eyebrow: |
Ah, yes. The philosophical pondering of cleavage. It is true that your boobs have more power when they collide.

I actually got into a discussion on this with a friend last night. Over the course of things, we realized that redheads are very binary: they're either really really attractive, or really really not, when you stop to think about it. There's no grey area or room for interpretation.
Me personally, I'm a sucker for the colleens (dark red hair, green eyes). Not to discriminate against the brunettes or ravenhairs, dark hair period does it for me. But dark red, that's where it's at. |
too many of my ex's have been redheads... geez around 85%... so where as I have been very 'lucky' in this department. wow.. uh.. after the last one I think I need to take a bit of a break from them... although...
|
oh.. on a side note...
I did some digging on the whole 'redhead' thing (seeing as how I am too curious for my own good) and it seems that although there is a popular thought that redheads 'come from' ireland/scotland that in fact the genetics can be traced back to scandanvia/norway.. just some food for thought |
Ethnic diversity circa 1000 A.D.
|
IIRC, the derogatory meaning for "red-headed child" (combined with the more obvious "stepchild"), as in "to beat like a red-headed stepchild" came from the habit of the redheaded Viking raiders... passing through... and leaving a crop of redheaded babies nine months behind them. :vikingsmi
|
kinda like the 'black-irish' after the sinking of the spannish armada... the survivors swam to shore and well... bred with the locals and the next thing you know! if you can't beat them.. join them I guess

i never kiss and tell. the thing with real red heads is that there is seldom an average looking red head. they're either knocked out gorgeous or painfully ugly. but, sometimes even the ugly ones are sexy. I like jinx as a red head.....she does the auburn thing. one day, she's gonna do hot pink.......that's sexy on a whole 'nother level. ....mmmmmmmmmm, dirty. |
Ok, LJ--I'll bite. DO men find you more attractive as a redhead? I think jinx is very pretty anyway but hot pink would be damn cool.
|
I had to do hot pink hair for a play once. It was awesome. A ton of people asked me about it though, so it's not a good idea if you don't like talking to strangers.
|
Ooh, hair color stories!!
I am naturally brown-haired...it isn't that nice dark brown, either, it is a boring sort of medium mousy brown. Funny, they don't make dyes in mousy brown. Anyway, I have been redhead, both strawberry and auburn, bleach blond, streaky blond, dark brown, and now black. I think I have had my hair black for about a year and a half now. My experiences wearing these colors has been interesting. When I was blond, I got hit on, practically constantly. But, I was never taken seriously. People didn't listen to things I had to say. When I was a redhead, I suppose I got hit on, but I don't remember. As a dark brunette I rarely got hit on, but I remember my blond friends would always get hit on before me (which is completely fine by me because most men that hit on them were not worth knowing). With black hair, I think most people look at me and think I have some sort of latent goth thing going on. Some guys think I am this creepy weird person or "interesting". It's kind of fun to see how perceptions of me change as my appearance changes. |
Exactly, case! I've been every color, too, with various streaky things going on, etc. I think it's very interesting how people react differently to different hair colors/styles. I'm a natural mouse brown which is a color that just begs to be toyed with!
|
If it is obvious that your hair is dyed (dark hair and pale skin, roots showing, etc.) then people know that you chose to be that color. People are then reacting to your choice as well as your color.
I suspect this is what people are reacting to with case. Very few people have naturally true-black hair. |
One of the strangest things I have ever seen was a young girl with long black hair and about one inch of bright blonde re-growth coming in!
|
Not only that dar, but they might even treat you like the stereotype, expecting that's part of what you were shooting for with the dye job!
Part of the reason for double-blind testing... |
Damn. I just can't formulate a good one-liner about double-blind testing of hair color...
|
I think all the male attention is your attitude. Do you feel more attractive? When a woman looks like she's feeling hot it doesn't seem to matter what color of hair she has. Like when you get a haircut and no one notices, but they do notice something is different about you.....Are you simply noticing what was there all along? I often don't notice male attention (my friends say so) but if I were to change my appearance and began to look for reactions I might see an increase in attention.(obviously) I'm not going to make a comment about my hair color or the fact that this is in the Philosophy category, but I will say attractive is not a hair color.
(not directed at anyone here i am having conversational flashbacks) :D And sorry guys, you all tell me to dye it but I like it how it is so your attraction to me can keep suffering. No big deal! If you are liking the women on the basis of hair color you are not going to be my type anyway........ :greenface |

I hear you, flip, but I do not agree. Men--On the AVERAGE--don't want grey hairs. And that is a response to your third to last sentance, last post. Men want women with vibrant hair color whether it be brown, red, blonde or black. Waning hair color is a halmark of decreasing libido--not my rule, Nature's rule.

I wasn't referring to grey hair because I don't have any. :p I can see how you would assume that meaning though. I have a friend with grey hair though and she never seems to be lacking any male attention. :D But the topic was about you........are you sure you are not just being more aware? :eyebrow: |

I've been a red-head for over 10 years and can't imagine not. The first few times someone referred to me as a red-head, I was taken aback. As in, who me? But I love having red hair. There's just something about it that gives a person a little "savoir faire". It's hard to describe unless you've been there...
|
:rainfro: Today, i am getting my hair dyed.
Red...hmmmm....not my color. Or is it??? :handball: |

A few years ago I would have done hot pink without a second thought, but I think I've passed the age where I can get away with it. I don't want to look like a washed up stripper... I haven't done any dyeing in a couple years, although I still have some henna remnants on the ends I think. I could definitely go for a change... this thread really has me thinking... |
I would love to see before and after shots if you do!!
