Look to the Sky

Did you know that Florida is #4 on the list of states with the most number of tornadoes per year? I bet you didn't! I caught this rather phallic cloud formation dipping from the sky for a couple minutes during a particularly nasty thunderstorm earlier this week. Like the majority of them, this little funnel did no damage.

Does anyone have any really good "evil sky" pictures? Or just interesting weather images? For quite awhile, it was my policy to carry a camera everywhere I went in the hopes that a good spring storm would turn violent. It is true that is not the best thing to be eager to see, but damn it sometimes looks impressive. There is nothing like a front of darkness sweeping in with that sudden cold breeze to make you run like hell.

Dang I have a couple. If I can find them, I'll post.

I have a shot of my dog in the woods which looks like it came straight out of the evil dead.

What, there's a pale blue rectangle around the moon?

DanaC 05-21-2004 05:28 PM

*deadpan* Yes. exactly that

Here's an excellent website to find weather related pictures. It's supposed to be all local weather pictures from around the world, but people post what they want.:) You know how hard it is to control posters. I've seen some great cloud/storm/lightning pictures so check out the archives.

unless your in an airplane:worried: i've been up there and had the weather go sour real quick, real fast. it's amazing, one minute the sky is clear and the next your dodging thunderbumpers! cool, mesmerizing, and dangerous. run at full throttle! (very cool pic btw!)

I don't have any pictures, unfortunately, but we've had a few tornadoes around Western Washington the last few days. They usually destroy barns and kill chickens.

That is absolutely awesome. Do you have the full-sized image and could you email it to me? I think it would make a dandy screen background.

(i'm assuming that you took this yourself, it's of wonderous quality, like many of your babe pictures).

Nothing But Net 06-08-2004 02:14 AM

Thanks for the kind words wolf. Yes, it is my shot. You can get a full-res version here

Ok everybody, this reminds me of an informal demographic study I've been doing over the years and deserves its own thread.

I'll start the thread in Quality Images momentarily.

Everybody do a screen grab of your desktop and stick it there.

I'll explain when I get there.

This is the Sun and the dark spot is Venus. Photo taken a few days ago by a military photographer here in Brussels.
