12/30/2003: Chinese meat fashion

http://cellar.org/2003/meatfashion.jpg

The caption says "Models display the latest Chinese designer wear during a year-end party in Beijing."

And I tried and tried to get more information, but there was none. And so this is presented to you, with no more detail. But it says all it needs to say, doesn't it?

Paging Billy...Paging Billy...

Beletseri 12-30-2003 12:05 PM

So is this supposed to be satire about wearing fur? I mean if the outside is good fashion, why not the inside?

xoxoxoBruce 12-30-2003 12:07 PM

She looks tasty.;)

Beletseri 12-30-2003 12:10 PM

Well, there was a meat dress that caused a lot of furor in Ottawa

And I had memories of a feminist anti beauty-contest protest. This was in Santa Cruz, CA. The protestor is Ann Simonton, who was a former fashion model. She had been a Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition cover.

xoxoxoBruce 12-30-2003 02:37 PM

I wonder what Miss Behavin did to get arrested? Certainly wearing the dress wasn't enough.

glatt 12-30-2003 02:37 PM

Anyone else think these models at the Bejing fashion show look a little imported?

Here's Miss Behavin earlier in her career in more mainstream attire.

Beletseri 12-30-2003 03:52 PM

Wow and she looks like a real woman too - normal sized butt and her boobs don't look like balloons. How long ago was that?

glatt 12-30-2003 04:07 PM

Elspode 12-30-2003 04:49 PM

Well, I probably should be posting this over in the "Feeling Old" thread, but I *remember* that cover.

So, she became disillusioned over the fact that her career peaked with an SI cover, eh?

Duh...Right..I knew that.. Where the hell are those pills..

Fashion is the effort by designers to make the weirdest thing that doesn't make your eyes burn. This is then toned down and copied in retail. Sometimes designers fail. Sometimes they make something not weird enough, sometimes they make your eyes burn. All thing considered, maybe the guy's doing a good job - check out how weird some other stuff seen lately on catwalks is.

xoxoxoBruce 12-30-2003 10:24 PM

Billy says it's not really meat. It's really leather made to look like meat. Ahh,....fashion.

Billy 12-30-2003 10:55 PM

I think the design thinking comes from the Nature and ancestors. On the other side, the avant-courier esigners want to catch eyes. In ancient time the ancestors wore the animal leather. The clothes that models wore is the mimic leather, not real meat. I can help you order one if really want to get one. Hahaha...

Well, I thought the asshat joke was quite funny.

Bruce, sorry I missed your delivery. I'll drop by on my way home ...

I saw this and pictured myself wearing a meat loincloth. Then my pit bull wandered into the room and made himself comfortable on my pillow. That made me picture the dog sniffing out said loincloth. NOT a pretty picture! :worried: :worried:

Brian

But I DO have two pounds of venison defrosting for dinner Friday night.

Any idears for preparation from those who eat venison more than once a decade?

Post over in Food and Drink to prevent thread hijacking

Dagney 12-31-2003 11:39 AM

You can already buy the "toned down" version in the deli section (already cut in to a handy size for a meat bikini and matching thong might I add).

bjlhct 01-05-2004 12:50 AM

That reversal is what makes it a postmodern critique of corporatist society.

Beauty is in the eye of the beefholder....

lumberjim 01-11-2018 05:46 PM

I've already upped mine. Up yours!

Clodfobble 01-12-2018 07:13 AM

Any time my wardrobe gets upped, it usually keeps going over my head and onto the floor.

And it ain't no game.
