Feb 25th, 2020 : Bee-ware

Most people are aware of European Honey Bees that are so important to food production.
Also familiar with big old Bumblebees, maybe wood eating Carpenter bees, and those asshole wasps. I always see small things
that look like bees but no idea what the are, which is not surprising since we have 4,000 kinds of native bees.

Maryland Biodiversity Project (MBP) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on cataloging all the living things of Maryland. Our goal is to promote education and conservation by helping to build a vibrant nature study community. The project was started in June 2012 by Bill Hubick and Jim Brighton. Our community has cataloged over 18,000 species, including over 10,000 species with photographs, and feature the work of more than 1,000 naturalists and photographers.
Part of their goal is a 112 page Field Manual of Maryland Bees pdf you can download free.

When entertaining the neighborhood bees the conversation can get awkward when you don’t know the proper names of their
body parts. For instance you can ask a bee about it’s middle leg where you really shouldn’t ask that of the man next door.

The MBP is also cool, about using their stuff for you own project whether it be educational, scientific or just trying to get laid
by impressing someone.

MPB, AKA The Saintly Publisher.
Neat outfit, fun post.
I think the metespecterum may be slightly mis-placed.

BigV 02-27-2020 01:14 PM

Will ya just look at all those words!

Gravdigr 02-27-2020 04:04 PM

Look at 'em? Sure.

Read 'em? Pfft...

I Googled metespecterum and got one hit, your post.

Kind of fun though, first time I've ever gotten one hit from them.

sexobon 02-28-2020 12:49 AM

I think it was a whimsical alteration of the word metepisterum found in last diagram.

xoxoxoBruce 02-28-2020 12:54 AM

I Googled it because I wasn't going to make myself nuts trying to find it in all those words.

sexobon 02-28-2020 12:58 AM

Wouldn't have mattered, you're already nuts. :p:

xoxoxoBruce 02-28-2020 01:00 AM

Shhh, the squirrels will hear you.

Griff 02-28-2020 07:43 AM

They're always listening.

Diaphone Jim 02-28-2020 12:20 PM

My comment of meta... was just a joke, spoiled by my misreading it off the diagram as sexobon pointed out.
I have gotten Google hits referring to Cellar posts before. They are watching.

Remember a thing called Google Whacking?

No, not that, put that thing away.

Google Whacking was where ya entered a two word phrase, without quotation marks, in hopes of receiving exactly one search result.

It's almost impossible now (pretty damn difficult back then), but, back in the day I achieved a Google Whack with the phrase marmalade fetish...

xoxoxoBruce 02-28-2020 05:05 PM

I keep running into every damn thing I google there's a band or product that's grabbed that word or phrase. Then the first page or more is places to buy the shit or reviews of the music, lists of lyrics, etc. I never had to go past the first page before.

Close.:lol2:

Gravdigr 02-29-2020 10:36 AM

It was a thing, yes.

BigV 02-29-2020 12:20 PM

It was, I did succeed once, though I can't recall my prize pair.

Keep trying!

glatt 02-29-2020 12:31 PM

I think there are sites out there that just contain the contents of dictionaries. I have no idea why. But because they exist, it's impossible to do a Google Whack now. Maybe if you combine words from different foreign languages...

Griff 02-29-2020 01:19 PM

Damnit!

lobster ventriloquist

About 1,130,000 results

Clodfobble 02-29-2020 02:02 PM

Plus, these days Google gives you results that don't contain the terms you searched for, because it's trying to be helpful.

glatt 02-29-2020 02:30 PM

I blame Pinterest.

It’s probably not their fault this time, but you’re usually safe blaming them.

BigV 02-29-2020 02:33 PM

for the record, Pinterest plus anything will not deliver a googlewhack.

on the other hand, fuck pinterest ... 236 million hits.

Griff 02-29-2020 05:07 PM

I agree

About 6,130,000,000
