Engaged

Well, I'm now engaged to be married. It happened last Saturday.

I took her to our favorite Italian restaurant, and we ate some unspeakably good genuine Italian food. I took her there on a Saturday because a highly talented tenor is on hand on weekend evenings, and I had him sing a romantic selection from an opera at our table as we finished off our dessert.

I paid, we walked outside, and my intent was to ask her right there in the ambient light on the sidewalk out front, while the romantic mood was still perfect. However, often go awry the well-laid plans of mice and men.

"Hold up a second," I asked as I noticed how quickly she was walking toward the car. She tossed back a comment on how she was freezing, and quickened her pace even more yet. I lengthened my stride to catch up to her, where I opened her car door and let her in. I had to decide whether to try to salvage the attempt or to wait for another time... so I knelt down beside the car with the door open.

"Listen," I began, as she wore a curious expression, "What do you say..." and I reached into my pocket and produced the ring, "...you and I get married?" What a smile. And a"Yes." I guess I didn't totally screw it up.

Just wanted to share! Life is good.

Well, being married almost 20 years (anniversary in August), I can point to any number of lessons in this example. Congratulations.

Is this going to make things easier for your mom vis a vis the cohabitation issue, HP? ;)

Awww! You are the most sensuous of the smoked cured meats.
Health and happiness to you both!

Marriage...what a crock...I ain't falling for that trap.

(Congratulations Alan...may you live a wonderful life together.)

Deepest sympathies. Here's hoping you have a wonderful life together.
Or as I said at the toast of my best friends wedding, "Statisticly speaking it had to happen to one of us. We're just glad it's you." There was something about not losing a friend, just throwing him to the wolves in there too, but I'll spare you.
     Seriously, congrats.

Way to go, man! Make sure you get all the sex you can now. Because, from what I understand, once they eat that wedding cake...

Congratulations!

I think a copy of this was floating around my wedding... anyway its a nice sentiment.

An Irish Wedding Blessing
May God be with you and bless you
May you see your children's children
May you be poor in misfortunes,
Rich in blessings
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward

Congratulations from Dagney and I as well!

We'll be joining you shortly. But *I* plan to keep her captive somewhere until the time is right. No sneaking off in the cold for THIS guy!

Brian

PS Ask her about The Plan sometime. You should have one.

That's a common misconception (pardon the pun). Getting married doesn't end sex... having kids does. There's a drastic decrease in frequency after the first kid and complete cessation after the second. :blunt:

Mrs UT and I don't have kids so there goes that theory.

hot_pastrami 04-22-2003 11:46 AM

Thanks for the sentiments, everyone. I'm excited about this.

Well, maybe. If anything it will give her some good news to enjoy before breaking the "bad" news to her. I hope she takes it well, but if not, then I guess she'll need to figure out how she wants to deal with it.

If you're referring to the discussions on what kind of wedding it will be, where the honeymoon will be, when/if we'll have kids, how many kids, etc, then that's already been discussed heavily, and is naturally pending further discussion. And what's spiffy is that her plans are almost identical to what I had in mind. She and I have a lot of parallels like that, it's eerie sometimes.

Way to go man! Y'know that getting down on one knee thing really does it to a woman. My man did it for me (thanks, my man).

Then you find out, to your horror, that you're really brother and sister.

The bride thinks the groom will change.
The groom thinks the bride won't change.
They're both wrong.
Bwahahahahahaha.
