Golf

Anyone watching the Master this weekend, it's great no commercials and I don't even have to pay for it. (please no one get started on the whole martha burke thing I'll go crazy)

Since we had our first 2 really nice days of spring I'm going crazy. My clubs are at home and I can't get them until after Easter. Yesterday I was truely considering going out and buying a cheap set fom wal-mart so I could do a round. Then I realized I didn't have $100 to blow *sigh*

It's almost as fun as watching fishing shows. Golf on TV -- what a concept. I think I could settle with a newsprint synopsis the next day.

But on the subject of Martha Burke, fuck that whiny bitch. There are enough self-righteous minority groups out there that demand racial- or gender-seclusion. Let the men (of all races, mind her) have this one.

Griff 04-13-2003 06:48 AM

See, I really like you Cam but I've taken a pledge to ridicule any golfer under the age of 55.

Cam 04-14-2003 11:48 AM

Oh come on griff you havn't lived until your out golfing with the green grass, sun shining, hardly a cloud in the sky. You step up to tee off on your first shot. Take a few practice swings, step up to the ball, swing and duff the shot 20 feet in front of you. Nothing better than that I tell you :P

elSicomoro 04-14-2003 07:13 PM

Yeah, I thought Cam was cool as hell until I read this thread. Besides, I thought backwater folks out west didn't play golf.

(Sorry Cam...this was too much to resist.)

What a crock of shit...all I need to do is wave a beer in your face and you'll be like, "Golf? What?"

Okay you got me there syc. Between Beer and golf Beer wins. But then again there is always that possibility of combining the two pasttimes. :)

Cam 04-14-2003 07:47 PM

Griff!! I'm shocked, you really thing I would dress up to play golf, I'm the one out there in jean shorts, a tee-shirt with the sleeves cut off and a really comfortable pair of adidas. I'm out there for the sun, and the little excerise that i'm getting, not to impress the other golfers with my golf etiquette(which is mostly non existent).

elSicomoro 04-14-2003 07:48 PM

Shit, we combine the two, and I'll don some knickers and swing the clubs.

elSicomoro 04-14-2003 07:49 PM

Like Happy Gilmore, eh Cam?

Cam 04-14-2003 07:52 PM

EXACTLY

Griff 04-14-2003 07:56 PM

Sure, thats it. Keep telling yourself that, while yer driving down the highway with your left blinker going.

Cam 04-14-2003 08:02 PM

Just wait Griff someday soon you'll be forced to pick up those clubs and take a swing then you'll be hooked. :3eye:

russotto 04-15-2003 12:58 PM

Hooked, sliced, or missed entirely, it's all the same.

Elspode 04-15-2003 01:22 PM

I really love golf, although I suck worse than a donkey with a pitching wedge, but I always feel compelled to point out that golf spelled backwards is flog.

Pete 04-16-2003 07:37 AM

I know I haven't been around long enough to hijack a thread but it's my last day on the job and I feel like wasting time.

The question on everybody's lips is

How can you call golf a sport?

Which, in turn, begs the question

What can be classified as a sport. NASCAR, horse racing, individual vs. team events?

IMO there has to be some sort of cardiovascular/aerobic activity.
Hey, maybe you guys don't even care if it's called a sport or not. Hadn't considered that.

Elspode 04-16-2003 08:03 AM

Cardiovascular is exercise. Sport is any activity in which someone competes against someone else...IMHO.

dave 04-16-2003 08:25 AM

Like Quake!

Skunks 04-16-2003 08:42 AM

Hell, forget Quake. I compete when I MUD; it's a sport! And Counterstrike! And I compete with the twits who try to pass me, by trumping their safe-passing-on-the-left rights by just riding on the left! BIKING IS A SPORT!

(Yet another post when I really, really should be asleep. Or just waking up.)

Pete 04-16-2003 09:13 AM

Looks like Webster is pretty generous with their definition.
1a. a source of diversion
1c. physical activity engaged in for pleasure
(I'm skipping over 1b cause the thread might go on an unwholesome tangent)

But then there's definition #5:
"an individual exhibiting a sudden deviation from type beyond the normal limits of individual variation usually as a result of mutation especially of somatic tissue" really????

So I guess I need to let golf off the hook. But I still think there are better ways to spend a sunny day and still have enough money left over for a nice bottle of Cuervo.

Yep, thats how they got all of those pretty blue green and chartreuse hostas lining the greens. The sport of propagation, (also, interestingly, enhanced by beer.)

Cam 04-25-2003 09:39 AM

Finally Going Golfing Today, :p

warch 04-25-2003 10:33 AM

OK, it kinda fits in this thread...
A happy Canadian sent it to me, and it made me chuckle. Fore!
