Segovia

Hello,

I'd like introduce you into Segovia, the town where I live. I have my job in Madrid, but I live in Segovia, which is very near to the capital of Spain. There you are some links:

www.viasegovia.com
www.aytosegovia.com

We have the Roman "acueducto":

Also the "Alcazar":

The food here is pretty good! and, well... there isn't a McDonalds :D ;)

He was a fine guitarist but naming a whole town after him seems a bit over the top. ;)

You are fortunate to live in such a beautiful place.

wolf 04-12-2003 07:53 AM

It is quite beautiful, indeed.

(They may have roman remains, but WE have high speed internet! ;))

Griff 04-12-2003 10:02 AM

Who is we white girl?

wolf 04-12-2003 10:04 AM

Slangsylvania AND the Very Independent Republic of Wolfslovakia, of course. Who did you think I meant?? ;)

Griff 04-12-2003 10:08 AM

I feared people would think the Reactionary Republic of Griftopia had jumped on the broadbandwagon before the industry had sorted itself out. :)

Griff 04-12-2003 10:22 AM

btw-
Rucita- The Cellar has a long tradition of thread piracy. You can feel free to return us to the topic of your home if you wish. :)

But you do have a Taco Bell, right?:D

wolf 04-12-2003 10:46 AM

Silly man, tacos are Mexican, not Spanish!

(They do have a Paella Hut, though.)

The Constitutional Monarchy of Sycamoreland is willing to trade you broadband for your Yerba Mate. That way, we won't have to invade you for it anymore.

Actually, Andres Segovia was born in Linares, Spain. How far is that from Segovia, Rucita?

I wrote a great reply a few minutes ago about how, except for travelling to Israel, I have not been near anything built before the late 1400's. And how seeing an example of complex engineering that still stands after thousands of years is very impressive. Then I hit the wrong button and deleted it.

Anyway, please accept in exchange for the beautiful pictures from your town, this picture of the Rocky Statue which stands in front of the Spectrum arena, located next to Philadelphia's Veterans Stadium, which is an example of how the Romans would have built the Colliseum if exposed to the modern concepts of poured concrete and lowest bid sub-contractors.

Griff 04-12-2003 11:28 AM

If you can have your guy here between 12 and 3 monday, its a done deal.

wolf 04-12-2003 04:09 PM

You want I should pick it up on my way home? Might have to make some adjustments to the time ...

Uryoces 04-14-2003 02:50 PM

I never feel bad at all when Ronald McDonald is defiled in other countries. It's kind of cool to see James Dean and big tailfin cars popular in other cultures but not that damn clown and his grease factory.

Spain sounds like a nice place.

If you guys come to blows, I'm......nevermind.

Anyway...Alcazar is quite impresssive as a structure. It's history is also quite an amazing story. During the seige they had an early Harley Davidson that was used to power the water pump.
I was amazed to see 4 or 5 foot Pointsettea(sp) plants living outdoors in huge pots. On the downside, driving to Madrid, out on the plains, you could see a pall of coal and diesel smoke over the city. Looked like Pittsburgh 50 years ago.

Muchas Gracias

Vd. puedo decir ambos. Espero que Vd. puedo compender mi Espanol. Necesito practicar.

Gretchen
