Merry Ho Ho eve to you all. This is gonna be a great one. Getting to have the traditional feast of the seven fishes
with my kids, GF at my parents home tonight - then back to my place for some serious partying with my kids and
a couple "adopted" others.:joint: :drunk:
Tomorrow we are here for Christmas morning with the famous "Skinny Santa" (Daniel)
then back to Mom & Dad's for more gift exchanging and then I'm headed over to my GF's parents for dinner...
I'm tired already. :browhappy

lumberjim 12-24-2015 09:27 AM

I was going to wear the beard and wig from my Halloween costume, but it's warmer today than it was then and I sweated my jingle bells off.... I'm thinking shorts and a Polo Shirt

Merry Christmas from Maine. You guys are good eggs.

DanaC 12-25-2015 03:56 AM

Merry Christmas from Yorkshire!

Carrot and I had a delightful Christmas Eve. Mum and Nelle came over and we watched the Leftovers season 1 finale, which was very moving and then the Christmas special of Would I lie to You? which was hilarious. We drank mulled wine and nibbled on dutch butter cookies - and I smoked a bowl of something utterly delightful (Thanks Bruce!!)

Mum and Nelle left a little before 9pm. I managed to stay awake for most of the 8 out of 10 Cats Christmas special - before my eyes started closing and it was time for bed. There's something very relaxing about being in bed quite early on Christmas eve, reading a book on my kindle, with Carrotchops curled up near my feet.

Going to my bro's later for Christmas dinner- no idea what we're having this year. Really looking forward to seeing everyone - haven't seen Meels for months (my eldest niece - studying in Newcastle and home for the hols).

So merry Christmas and I hope for all good things for all my Cellar clan.

Carole King musical? OMG let me know how it is.

Forgot to mention my greetings come from a little burg on the western side of ohio.

Beestie 12-25-2015 10:59 AM

Nice looking kids!

Merry Christmas to all from Alexandria, VA! Traveling this year as well. Meeting our oldest son's likely future in-laws ...

Husband is giving our disabled son a private tour of DC while most people are at home and traffic is forgiving for dawdling and gawking. After dinner, we'll all go see the National Christmas Tree (and States' trees).

Wishing everyone the happiest of holidays!

PS - beautiful photo of your beautiful children, Clod!

Clodfobble 12-25-2015 07:41 PM

Thanks, everyone! I'm pretty fond of them, myself. :)

DanaC 12-26-2015 08:20 AM

I can't get over how grown-up they look. Time flies.

BigV 12-26-2015 11:04 AM

Happy happy Christmas to my family of choice down here in the cellar. It's cold and wet or cold and snowy depending on one's elevation. My self gift this year was *not* crawling back under my car and getting filthy and frozen on Christmas day.

But when I do, I'll have plenty of cleaning supplies to work with as I thaw in a hot shower, thanks to my Secret Santa. Details in the proper thread, but thanks here (and there)!

classicman 12-26-2015 01:30 PM

Happy Christmas everyone. We did Chadds Ford PA, Wilmington & Newark DE, then West Grove PA before crashing hard back at home.

OMG - Clod - I can't believe how big your kids got. I'm still remembering them in the video you shared apparently a looooooooooooong time ago.

Clodfobble 12-26-2015 07:19 PM

7 and 9, now. Funny thing about the girl looking exactly like me--I went to one of those parties where you bring a baby picture of yourself and everyone tries to guess which friend is which baby... And I had more than one person come over and whisper, "No, no, you misunderstood, you weren't supposed to bring a picture of YOUR kid..." They couldn't believe it was me, not her.

Griff 12-26-2015 07:21 PM

Too cute!

fargon 12-26-2015 07:24 PM

Cute Kids.

lumberjim 12-27-2015 11:45 AM

Yeah the girls make their own.

Clodfobble 12-28-2015 11:28 PM

Could you ask them pretty please on my behalf for their recipe? I make rollups but they don't turn out nearly so nice...

Eventually that elevation became sea level.

This is Jack (everybody say HI JACK! You have to shout, he's spry, but deaf) cavorting on the day after the day after Christmas. Good thing I finished my work the day before the day after the day after Christmas. That stuff is cold. And wet.

DanaC 12-29-2015 03:09 AM

Hi Jack!

tw 12-29-2015 09:18 AM

Shouting HI JACK will get you thrown off the plane.

Lil G runs a very experimental kitchen but its basically:
Three cups fruit, 2-3 tablespoons sugar (handful), splash of lemon juice (protects the color) blend the shit out of it, pour into a pan lined with plastic wrap or a silpat, spread thin, put in low temp oven 170/180 for maybe 5 hours but check it often. bendy not squishy.

This one was strawberry/blueberry and a little orange marmalade.

Griff 12-29-2015 09:21 AM

Bummer, I was hoping for some secret technique I must be missing. I do all that, but I can't seem to get the dryness level right yet. They're either flakey and papery, or too gooey to hold together. Which I know means I need to spread it less thin and/or cook it longer, but for some reason I haven't found the perfect combination that I can replicate every time yet. Ah well, I'll just keep at it.

Griff 12-29-2015 09:44 AM

The moisture can be tricky so they stay away from apples. Blueberries strawberries mango peaches raspberries blackberries have all had good results. The edges tend to be flaky if the middle is perfect.

Clodfobble 12-29-2015 10:29 AM

Wait, because apples are juicy? What about pears, bad too, I bet? All of mine are a berry mixed with a base of apple/pear/lemon because it sweetens and eases the flavor concentration of whatever berry I'm using. Maybe I'll try just pure peaches or something, see how that goes...

Griff 12-29-2015 10:33 AM

I wish I had a scientific answer but they don't seem to breakdown properly.

xoxoxoBruce 12-29-2015 11:46 AM

Maybe one of those dehydrators, that are used to make jerky, would be easier to control than the oven?

Sorry this is all so belated.
I took my laptop to London, but of course I couldn't get the free WiFi connection. I swear hotels just put it on their websites to sucker you in!

A Merry Christmas (and more appropriately now) a Happy New Year to you all!

Christmas Day:
Ant & Dec dropped by to wish us a Merry Christmas

And Mum LOVED her hand-knitted hat from Limey.
She told me she's been wearing it since she got home.
THANK YOU.

Her hair started to fall out on Boxing Day. By the time she got home, she was leaving a trail of hair everywhere. She had it shaved today, all the better for her wig to fit (and not to eat hair every time she leaned over a meal)

More to follow in different threads.

Just guessing that maybe adding some pectin might help it along.
