Daddy > Dad
I was out on my porch this evening. The neighbors had a party that was letting out and the families were heading to their cars or walking up the block....
I heard one dad tell his wife he loved her, and a kid made a wretching noise. Dad retorted that he loved the kid too. Daddy, actually. The kid called him Daddy. Don't remember what he said, but the Daddy. My kids call me Dad these days. 15 & 17, and that's appropriate. Still, I miss being Daddy. They would sit in the window sill and wave as I left for work. Nowadays, I have to throw a fit to get them both to come to my house for 'my' Saturday night. Sigh. I know it's normal. I don't fault them.... But I miss being Daddy. |
You could be a sugar daddy.

I am a good sponsor.... But that's not where I was going with this at all. Instant thread drift is instant.
Shaw, I would totally.... Something, something, but Amanda occasionally stalks my posts..... So I'll leave it at that. |
Just wait untill yer Grand daddy Jim !!!
|
Shut your whore mouth, Chris
|
HaHHHHHH !!!
|
I hear yah Jimmy. The girls started calling me Papa during childhood. I still get that in written form now and again.
|
Jim you are lucky with your kids and your Father. My Dad was born the 25 of July 1902. He passed away 26 May 1987.
|
I'm still Daddy to kids who are 24, 21, and 18. It comes from the inlaws. My Dad was Dad from our teens.
|
I can't remember when I stopped using 'daddy'. Pretty young. I'm pretty sure he was Dad from around the age of 5 or 6. Daddy is something that only very young children tend to say here - or very posh people.
At some point, I think in my 20s 'Pops' became one of his names. |
My dad is still Daddy. My mom was also Mommy all the way until I had kids and they were calling me Mommy, and only then did it feel weird. Mom is still equally weird to me, in fact. Realistically I don't call her anything, I just say, "Hey." But dad will always be Daddy.
|
For my mum it's Mum, or Ma - occasionally Mam*.
* not to be confused with Ma'am which is what people call the queen, or other shortened forms of madame - it's more like the Irish mam/mammy and is quite common in a lot of the North of England |
I'm dad mostly nowadays as my kids are 27, 25, 23 GASP! Sometimes my oldest son uses my first name when referring to me in the third person. That weirds me out - a lot.
I'm ALWAYS Daddy when my daughter wants something .... and I melt every time. |
As you should.
|
My kids got to name all of the grandparents because they were the first in the generation. My dad is Pop, her dad is Don. My mom is Nanna, hers is Ganny. Ganny is remarried to Geeky. Nanna to Pappy Dave or just Dave.
|
A friend and her daughter's mother-in-law, settled who would be Nana and who would be grandma, six months before the first grandchild was born. :haha:
|
I can't even remember when I stopped being Daddy. It was nice, but I prefer Dad. I like it that they are their own people now.
|
When Amelia was born Jen's mum was called Nanny, I think, and mum was called Granny Babs, because her name is Barbara and her nickname has always been Babs. Amelia mangled that fairly quickly into BamBabs and so she has remained BamBabs ever since. And, because Jen and Martin would always refer to mum as BamBabs with the kids it has kind of stuck and now it's used more generally by the family.
BamBabs |
I hate mom/mum (and nor really into mummy either but young kids needs that) so they get to choose -my first name or mummy/mommy :D. I will answer to mom. Sometimes. But it had better be good.
Beest prefers Dad or Daddy -the boys call him Dad and the girl Daddy. All teenagers. They've always used my first name when calling up into crowds because 75% of the people up there are called Mom. It probably changes when they became teenagers/went to high school -their elementary education was all in one school so no Middle School/Junior High experiences to force the change |

Kidding, Amanda seems like a rockin' chick. :p: I have no kids...but it was 'mom' and it is 'dad'; in my heart it is always mommy and daddy. |
I call my parents everything. Popdigr is Pop, sometimes Daddy (here, almost everyone calls their dad Daddy, guys and gals, grown or not), when I was young, and needed money, I'd call on 'Daddy Warbucks'.:D
Momdigr is Mom. When I'd hit her up for cash it was 'Mother Dearest'. Popdigr's parents were MaMa (not mama, but, Ma, twice) and PaPa (not papa, but Pa, twice), whereas Momdigr's were Grandma and Grandaddy. I'm happy to not be a dad, daddy, pop, poppa, fahthuh, or Daddy-O.:jig: |

Nope, they call her 'mon' not 'monster-er.' :)
|
If I had children, I'd hope they called me...
...long distance. And not collect, either. |

They do call me monster sometimes :D but yes, all three syllables. Not the middle name too, though -then I'd know I was in trouble!
|
My kids call me Mummy when they want something. Sometimes it goes along the lines of "mummy, mummy, MUMMY, MUM!, MUM!!! WHERE ARE YOU???!!!" That's usually when I'm in the toilet or hiding because I have had a bad day.
|
My kids (29, 27, 25, 23) mostly use Mom and Dad now, but sometimes a son will still say 'Mama' affectionately, and my daughter will use 'Daddy' if she's buttering him up. I don't want them to call me by my first name. I told them the whole world can call me by my first name, but they are the only four people in the world who can call me Mom.
A few of my children's friends (in elementary and high school) called me 'Mama L_____'. That was nice at the time. |
|
Beat me to it!
