Running the 10K
My friend invited me to run the 10K with her in September, so I've signed up for it. I've been training from the beginning of June. At first, I couldn't even make a lap around the track(1/4 mile). Since last week, I've managed to jog 3 miles non-stop. I'm happy and proud of myself. I am going to continue with the 3 miles for a week and increase gradually then. Being able to jog for 3 miles makes me less nervous about the whole thing, but I still have some ways to go before I can relax about the 10K. Anyways, I thought I would start tracking my progress from this point. :)

10 kilometers!
|
10k / 3 miles...You're halfway there!
She's practicing running from us Cellar guys, y'know that, right? |
Hehe....I get 5K in everytime. I have 51 days left until d-day to increase my endurance. Ideally, I would like to be able to jog 5 miles non-stop. Yeah, that's not going to happen. :-P

Don't sell yourself short.
|
I don't doubt that I can jog 5 miles non-stop. I just don't think I can do it in 51 days. But it's okay. I'll do my best. :D
|
Go Go Go Energiser Bunny!
You'll be amazeballs because you always are. If you run for charity, do let the good folks here know. My bro got multiple donations from the Cellar for his 100m bike ride, and he doesn't look anywhere near as cute a you in lycra! |
Lola In Lycra...
|
Lycra would be too hot.
So I only managed to jog 2 miles today before stopping. Not sure if it's because I may be jogging faster than usual or I have some kind of acid reflux going that was making me tired. I just continued the next 2 miles with jog and walk alternation. After I came home, I ate a big slice of humble pie (I think I got too cocky about able to jog 3 miles), drank lots of water, and tonight I will have to look over my strategy to achieve the 4 mile jog. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better. :D |

33C!
I think you did well running for two miles at that temperature personally. And jog and walk is not a failure, it all counts. |
Hello! Hello!
It has been really hot, but I jog at 7AM, so the temperature is bearable. Well, at least for me. I found a training program to run a 10K but I printed it out and not save on the computer. I can't find it again, otherwise I would put it here for y'all to follow my progress. Well, maybe it's better this way, so I can cheat, hihi. I'm going to attempt a 4 mile jog tomorrow. Wish me luck! Sundae:  You always cheer me on. I really appreciate it. I appreciate everyone else who replied too.   |
4 miles in 54 mins. Slow paced but made it. I gave myself a pat in the back. I've been doing that alot lately. I've realized that not only that YOU love yourself the most, but you, yourself are the biggest cheerleader. If you going to wait for someone to motivate you, you might as well give up. Everyone else has too many damn problems of their own.
Let's see if I can hit 5 miles next week. (Yes, I love optimism. :D) |
Well done! Attagirl, Lola!

Did you run in the morning, 75 at 6 AM but 90 at noon.
|
90 at noon is nice, this time of year. What you have to watch out for is when it's still 90 at 10:00 PM...

What I do to keep me going is to distract myself from the thought of feeling tired. My distractions: I look at other people -- how they run, how they dress -- and the dogs they walk. Yes, dogs. For example, yesterday, this couple was walking this gorgeous husky. I almost wanted to stop to ask to pet him...LOL. It was very beautiful. Today, I saw a couple walking three of these: (attached pic below) Two black and one white that was unfortunately dyed light blue on the bottom and what looks like piano keys its stomach. Poor baby. Anyways, they look more regal than the ones in the picture. I wonder how my running form looks and really hope I don't look funny or weird. I wonder what people think when they look at me because I sure have lots of comments and amusement when I look at others! :p: Hahaha.....there is this one girl, from the look from behind, she seems young. Her knees seem to be held together by an invisible string while her feet swing outward to meet at the center. I actually kept my gaze on her for a while because her legs look so strange. And then, there is this older gentleman. Thin, very tan, and perhaps in his upper 50's. As he runs, his neck rocks side to side. Some time back, I actually saw a teenager boy does the same thing with his neck while he runs. Another interesting thing to observe is how people dress. Shorts, tanks, running pants (lycra! according to Sundae, hihi) t-shirts, etc. There's this one man, in his 40's. He has on shorts and this tank, teeny meenie that's sliced up with one "strap" on his right shoulder and the other fallen down his left arm. I saw him again today, but from the back. He has on the same tank, except the back is in one piece, looks like a rectangular number tag people have one in race. It was plastered to his back with sweat. Ahhh....there was this two women today. Tall, slender, older Chinese ladies. Both in blue capri pants, blue long sleeve shirts, blue big rim hats, and sunglasses. One of the woman's face has this white plastered (probably sunblock) and bright red lipstick. Sorry, I know I shouldn't laugh, but they look very comical. But hey, at least they made the effort to exercise. :D |
I think those are Poodles without the French haircut.
You should get your girlfriend who got you into this, film you, so you can analyze your style. |
My friend lives too far to go jogging with me. But it's okay, I'm sure I can guess what others may think. I'm sure many thinks it's ridiculous with my long pants and long sleeves and wonder why I don't fall over from heatstroke. :p:
|
Tell them it's your strategy, wearing lots of material to catch a tailwind and sail across the finish line.
|
Good work Lola!
|
Sexobon: I don't wear that many layers, just one. There's always one or two other I spot with long sleeves and long pants like me though. Skin cancer is a bitch.
Griff: Thanks! :) Today was a set back for me. I didn't exercise the last 3 days, so mentally, I'm paying for it. There were several things different with my schedule, and I used them as excuses to do less. After dropping my nephew off to school at 8, I drove to the park. What normally takes 15 mins., took me almost 45 mins. I didn't start jogging until 9ish. Don't know what the temp was, but it was hot and the sun felt hotter. I didn't drink enough water the day before nor this morning, so I was thirsty. I meant to eat a banana earlier because I had dinner at 5 the day before but forgot. The bottom line was, I was mentally lazy. Hehe....yes, I could have push it, but I was overly indulgent to my lazy self and stopped at 2.74 miles. I walked the rest of the way to 3 miles. I would've walked more except my bunion started to hurt. It doesn't hurt to jog but sure does when walking. Well, I'm going to give myself a good spanking tonight and try harder tomorrow. :D |
Don't forget to apply some sunscreen.

I've been neglectful of update my progress. Well, I've been off my training schedule a bit. Since my last report here last week, I think I've managed to jog 3 times -- 2 long runs and 1 training one. Last Thursday, I realized I forgot to cheer for myself. So, I kicked my downer self to the curb and brought out poms poms to cheer myself on. However, I only managed to jog for 3 miles. The same goes for Friday. :( On Saturday, I jogged shorter distance but faster. It was a good day. The weather has been cooler and the sun is not so hot anymore. Today was cloudy so it felt cool. However, I only jogged 3 miles again. Physically, I could've jogged 4 miles; however, I was so bored and stopped at 3 miles.

Incentive. :haha:
|
Lola, every run you do is improving your fitness.
Amateur marathon runners almost never do the whole 26 miles before the race, they just work on general fitness and feeling comfortable running. My brother did not cycle 100 miles before his 100 mile charity bike ride, and yet made some of his best ever times far into the course. Because he was part of a huge event and there were people cheering him on all the way around. Including me, at the summit of the highest climb, Box Hill (therefore I am solely responsible for his success - in my mind.) Push yourself, because you know you can. But yeah - kick the doubting bunny right in the cunt. You'll do it even if you have to walk - and some people do. But you won't walk because you're better than you realise, and you're getting fitter every time you run. Oh, and you're marvellous. |
Awww.....thank you for your kind words! For you, I will give the doubting bunny a punt in the cunt! I'll think of you and try harder and not give up. ;):D

Today was not so bad. I did 4X 1/2 mile at a faster than usual speed with some rest in between. What made me go hmmm....was that I went to the doctor afterwards this morning. An hour or so more after I finished jogging, my heart rate was at 103. That was still a little higher than my usual rest HR. Gonna do some research on that. I'm sure there's some kind of literature or training to bring down your workout HR to resting HR faster. |

Most of us need incentive. But on the bright side, the human brain is so complex we can often fool half of our own, while the other half is in the bathroom.

So, tomorrow is the big day. I've been feeling less than ideal the last two days. Allergies suck, and it seriously making me feel like I'm sick. Sneezy, coughing, stuffy nose, runny nose, sinus pressure, headache, brain feeling fuzzy, tired. Ahhh.....all wonderful things that I've been blessed not to experience from having allergies. I am truly sorry for not being more sympathetic to those who have allergies. Now that I am empathetic, can I stop experiencing it? Hihi....
Anyways, I've been busy and sometimes not feeling great, the last two weeks, I've only jogged a few times and only for 3 miles. No matter, I will do that 6.2 miles tomorrow! :D Anyways, I will post my picture as it becomes available. Now, I'm off to bed early for my friend will pick me up at 5:45AM. The run starts at 7AM. |
Remember that if your nose runs and your feet smell, you're upside down!
Good luck. |
How'd it go?
|
Tah tah ta tah (French horns) the results are in.
First we had monster, our Tri-Athlete Star, and now we have Lola Bunny our 10K medal holder. Cloudy, cooler, with occasional drips, but a fast track brings Lola home for the whole 10K, non-stop, in 1 hr & 20 min. http://cellar.org/2015/Houstonrun1.jpg http://cellar.org/2015/Houstonrun2.jpg |
Way to go, Lola!
|
Yay! Lola Bunny.
|
yay lola, well done!
|
:cheerldr:
|
Thank you Bruce for posting. And thank you everyone. :D I just got a text of my result: I finished in 1hr 21mins 14 seconds. Pffft...okay, so I was slower a 1:14 than I thought. But I finished! YAY!!!!! I guess I should have sped up at the end, but I kept my speed throughout. Slow and steady but I finished without stopping. There were so many kids there. I was impressed! There families and children running the 10K too. Anyways, I'm going to start training to run faster. My friend said to do it again and beat my time.
Thank you everyone for your encouragement. Certain days have been difficult, and I'm glad you all were here to cheer me on. :) |
What kind of time did your friend the runner who got your into this do?
|
According to her, she looked at the clock when she passed the finish line and it was 1hr 4mins. She usually run a 10min mile. I usually do a 13min or 13:30min mile. She said she wants a do a 1/2 marathon next year. Gotta start training now. Frankly, I don't like running all that much. I happy with the 10K. I don't think I'll ever get ambitious enough to venture any kinds of marathon.
|
I enjoy running when I'm running behind women who look good from the back.
You need to find some guys to run behind. I've done 7 mile (49 min.) and 20 mile (forgot time) organized runs. They were boring. I've done 20 miles with a 65 pound pack in 4 hours for a military test. That was in hill country with some scenery and wasn't so bad. For short runs of a few miles, listening to music breaks the monotony. For longer runs I like to have something interesting to look at. |
Congratulations!!
Consecutive thirteen minute miles, mind you, that's an impressive achievement. Well done! |

Hurray! Nice work.

Brilliant, well done.
Technically you were running further than all those other people, as you have such tiny little legs you're running more steps! |
