Tornados in Southeast

My home town (Tupelo) was hit by a tornado today. Family had a lot of damage to homes. Local TV station evacuated studio during live broadcast. It was that bad. Check out

it is still pretty bad here. I quit my vocational rehab program to stay and help. bryanna had a large tree fall on the roof of their home and all the windows were blown out. they don't have any insurance, but fema grants might help them. they still don't have power on their road, but a local church has loaned them a generator and is helping to feed them. Louis lived only 2 blocks from where the tornado hit the 3 churches that have been on the news. he had roof damage, but it has already been patched and his cable and power restored. Elizabeth lost everything in her back yard - patio furniture, gazebo, chicken coop, etc. she has her power back and I'm sending this email from her house. my daddy road through it with only a few limbs down. addie lives in another county and is ok.

my place got hit hard. I can't get to it because the private road is blocked with large downed trees. neighbors hiked in for me to check on things. my truck is turned over with a tree on it. the trailer for the deuce is about 200 yards away with the canvas and bows ripped off. I only had antique collectors insurance on it.

nobody is hurt and we can rebuild. the wounded warrior program is going to coordinate with team rubicon to come in and do repairs for veterans. i'll give my allotment to bryanna. I've got a chainsaw and a winch on my tracker. i'll simply take my time cutting my way in to my truck. I draw the same disability if I it takes me a week or a month. lol.

say a prayer for the good folks down here and you can follow the progress on www.djournal.com

Crikey Sarge! So glad you and yours are safe, but that's a lot of mess to clear up! Hugs to you! xxx

Sundae 05-03-2014 04:16 AM

Damn, Sarge.
You dropped off the radar and I do know why. But it's so hard when I can't contact you by post, email, Cellar or phone.
You're in my thoughts every day.

You're such a big man in so many ways, looking after Bryanna's family.
You wouldn't be you if you didn't, but it breaks my heart that you've quit rehab.
PLEASE look after yourself. You can't look after all these other people if you're not here. Something's got to give.

Much love and wishes for you.
Mum asks after you regularly, at least I have some news for her now. Shame it's not better news.

DanaC 05-03-2014 04:22 AM

Wss.

Glad to hear you're ok Sarge and nobody hurt. But it sounds a nightmare situation for all concerned. Remember to look after yourself as well as others.

Isn't vocational rehab training to work as something other than a soldier/cop? Seems to me that helping your family and friends is more important to you at this point, and just as likely to help you prepare emotionally for your next career. And I suspect you won't have burned all your bridges on that one. I say good for you, Sarge, hope the damage is recoverable and you find a new program when this is all behind you in the nor too distant future. Just don't let this be anything mor ethan a minor bump in the road, though, make sure to get back to a program as soon as you can.

Please keep checking in when you can and let us know if you do feel like it's all getting too much at any point. Good luck
