Parents spoon feeding their little ones would hold the spoon up and say “Here comes the airplane in for a landing, open the hanger.” while mimicking airplane noise and moving the spoon around in the air as though it were flying. The child wouldn’t understand what was being said; but, was sufficiently amused by the sound and motion to laugh. As the mouth (hanger) opened, in went the food on the spoon (airplane) and the word "open" repeated so the child would learn to associate it with the action.

Ah. Sorry. I never had that experience.

I still like 'kisser'.

[vocabulary]Hangar vs. hanger
A hanger is (1) one who hangs something, or (2) an item used to hang things. A hangar is a shelter used for housing and maintaining aircraft.[nazi]

Here's a small list, I have to check my Slang dictionary at home.

blower – cake hole – cock pocket – cotton mouth – cum dumpster – gob – grill – hatch – hatch, the – pie hole – skull cave – trap – word hole – yap

Because I am pedantic I need to point out that we are not looking for euphemisms, but slang terms. A euphemism is an inoffensive word standing in for an offensive one. e.g. poo is a euphemism for shit.

/pedant

Sheldonrs 01-29-2014 11:26 AM

Is there a slang term for euphemism?

Is there a euphemism for slang?

And what about Marylou?!!!

Thank you. I should've known better; also, recognized that my mistake was confusing ortho. I'm improving though, I used to put airplains in hangers. :o

monster 01-29-2014 10:31 PM

I am disappoint.

or surprised at least. I thought there would be more.

footfootfoot 01-30-2014 08:37 AM

According to my dictionary of slang the most slang words are for food and sex acts followed closely by terms for drunkenness.

I understand that Merks have most euphemisms for money and murder and Brits for sex and bathroom acts.

monster 01-30-2014 10:08 AM

....I could turn round and grab one of my slang dictionaries other than the profanisaurus, I guess ;)

footfootfoot 01-30-2014 02:13 PM

Be still my beating heart! You have more than one slang dictionary?

Gravdigr 01-30-2014 04:23 PM

I was kinda impressed, too.

But, seeing as she's a transplant, it kinda makes sense, too.

monster 01-30-2014 09:43 PM

I think I have 4 maybe? I love words and dictionaries. I have rhyming dictionaries, antique dictionaries, various Oxfords, Websters, Scrabble dictionaries from both countries... I have no idea how many I have

It seems no one appreciated my euphemism here; so, I don’t think I’ll bother with them anymore.
