3/9/2003: DEA closes sites
http://cellar.org/2003/dea.jpg
This is a news image, not a personal capture. I tried to go to the sites that look like this, but their domain names no longer resolve. This is what you saw if you visited "pipesforyou.com" or "aheadcase.com" last week after the feds jumped in to stop internet sales of drug paraphernalia. |
You've gotta go to www.pipesforyou.com , they evidently didn't setup a default DNS IP for just pipesforyou.com.
BTW, www.pipesforyou.com resolves to a A name of www.pipedreams.dea.gov Oh, and for what it's worth, this makes my blood boil, but I guess I shouldn't be too suprised being under the thumb of the son of the creator of the kinder, gentler police state... -sigh- |
I'm not a drug user, and I could really care less about the 20 year old "War on Drugs". But this can not be good. It's starting with the DEA closing down sites about drug parephenalia. Before we know it, Fark.com will have a similar sign and Curtis will have a goddamned needle in his arm.

Next stop, cryptome.org
Not that http://cryptome.org/stego-pal.htm is there anymore.
|
Well at least the rest of us americans have the first amendment right to free <end transmission>
|
isonews.com
Of course everyone just gets to it by IP now, and thus feels more l33t. |
BASTARDS

The code in question
21 USC 853(e)(1)
Upon application of the United States, the court may enter a restraining order or injunction, require the execution of a satisfactory performance bond, or take any other action to preserve the availability of property described in subsection (a) of this section for forfeiture under this section - (A) upon the filing of an indictment or information charging a violation of this subchapter or subchapter II of this chapter for which criminal forfeiture may be ordered under this section and alleging that the property with respect to which the order is sought would, in the event of conviction, be subject to forfeiture under this section; or ------ That's right -- there's been no conviction of any sort. This is a frigging _restraining order_ not based on the content of the site, but based on the idea that the property MIGHT be taken under criminal forfeiture provisions. |
Can't you use a bong to smoke tobacco?
Doesn't this fact render this action illegal? |
Sorry g this one goes under the Thought Crime subsection. They know the intentions of the buyers. This will prove very useful for the war on terror, all multiple use information or technology is forbidden.
|
It just feels so comforting to see the stars and stripes in the background, like they are looking out for me.

My god...
I posted this same thing in another forum, and was immediately attacked by people saying, "well, if they weren't doing anything illegal then they wouldn't have been shut down"... and "the only thing you can use those for is illegal stuff, so it doesn't matter"... So suddenly I'm the bad guy for pointing out that it may not be exactly legal to arbitrarily shut down these sites w/o any sort of legal backing. *smack head* |
Eh, it's big in eastern Asia and the Middle East to smoke tobacco through water pipes...
It's kinda shaky ground anyway, I think. There shouldn't be any in the first place, because the War on Drugs is a silly idea. Taking the domains is a rather lame action, though. All it does is make the sites moderately more difficult to get to. |
Smoking tobacco though water pipes is VERY popular in many middle eastern countries, turkey particualry if i rememeber correctly. There is also this wierd fruit based stuff they smoke, it's a bit of tobacco, molassas and dried fruit stuff, comes in apple, rasberry etc, VERY nice *ahem*.
No, i don't smoke dope, enver have, never will. Water pipes do differ a little in design though, the long pipe bit for example....I'm sure people smoke dope thought those too though. Maybe the idea is they can raid muslims and arrest them for drug use. |
Well, so much for freedom.
At least we're not being tortured. |
yet
yeah I'm a pessimistic bastard |

That's not torture ... that's "being encouraged to cooperate and provide information."

But hey, all water pipes can't be bad, right? I mean seriously, they're used in kid's cartoons! Ever see the caterpillar in 'Alice in Wonderland'? I'm sure that was just tobacco. Right? Quzah. |

Yes.
It was a hookah quzah.

Where's Bill Bennet. I have a question. Is chocolate the gateway drug? |
Quote:
First it's chocolate, which enhances the cravings for other sugars, like jelly beans, swedish fish, and sourpatch kids. Then next thing you know you find you have a big, old caffiene monkey on your back ... |
Why we need separation of dope and state.
|
How sad that, even under court order, a government would still do its best to keep people from getting the primary benefit intended just because it is delivered in the form of marijuana.
|
I did not expect to find another good argument against socialized medicine in this thread!! (The article griff links to is pretty good evidence of why the government needs to stay out of healthcare provision)

Coworker uses chocolate as an anti-depressant too. Swears by Ghiardelli's baking chocolate. |

I heard this on CBC this morning...and almost fell out laughing.
"We don't want you all getting TOO high..." |
The first contractor Canada hired had to destroy its entire crop. The thc content was over 16% and would not meet contractual spec of 10%:(
|
That's just insane. Weed makes politicians paranoid.

and yes, dope is a gateway to chocolate and thus should remain illegal. Bomb Switzerlands and Belgium, the bastards have been luring children for centuries. |

Baker's Chocolate is a cruel jest perpetrated upon the children of the world, who inevitably at some point have discovered that big ol' bar of apparent chocolatey goodness in the pantry and attempted to engage is some of it's illicit joys only to recoil in horror at the taste. Ghirardelli bittersweet b&e chocolate is one of their yummiest, IMHO, but I'm a fan of dark chocolate more than the milk varieties. I've also got a couple of vegan friends who can eat the dark G because they don't have dairy components. Chocolate is my drug of choice. |
