Strange dreams

I don't know, it was just strange and for some reason I feel like sharing:

The first part of the dream consisted of me being in a covered tent or something...big enough to be like a tent for small events, not big enough for a circus tent. It seemed like it was really dusty inside to the point it was hard to see, and I had the feeling that there was construction work or something going on. As I stepped out, past what seemed to be plastic tarp, I found that I was in the forest, though it was still hard to see, and at that point I realized this is fog, not dust. I carefully wandered through the forest until it suddenly stopped and I found myself at the side of a highway which I had the feeling that I was on to get to the place where I just came from. I looked to my right and the road seemed to go upward and curve to the right; I had the feeling it just went into the forest...to the left, while I couldn't see anything, but had the feeling it went to a town. I looked behind me and it was clear now no fog at all, and I think it seemed kind of...I don't know, like there was a building back there or something...small, like it was a restaurant, bar, or something like that. But I think I went to the left to towards the town, as I seem to vaguely remember being in a town in the next part of my dream.

I don't remember the second part of my dream very well...but I think I was in a car and with my parents...I can't remember very well what we were doing but I believe we were in the town. I think I must've gotten out or something to go see something on my own, as this is where it seems to go to the third part of the dream, as I am sure there was more to the second part...when I came out of consciousness I had basically commited it to my brain, but not enough for the second part. Anyway, this part of the dream didn't seem to be as colorful as the first part...mostly grays and whatnot. But I found myself at a beach...it wasn't really sunny. There were lifeguard stations here...but the strange thing is some of them were not in them, but remained at the bottom just sitting there...and the stations didn't look like what I remember from my times at the beach. Anyway, I turn to look out at the ocean...and the waves were huge! Almost want to say 12' or something...but definitely bigger than me. They came real close to the shore but I was never really threatened...I just stood there watching...the waves never touched me. And the neat thing is that I could HEAR the waves...that roar of the ocean...it really stuck out at me...very rare for sound to be such a prominent feature for me. I think then that I started to walk back towards where the road near the beach was...and there were some headlights and it was my parents in the car they were driving...dream ended there...as I came to consciousness, eyes closed, but remembering the dream very well, so I went over it in my brain to commit it to memory...then drifted back into sleep.

The other dream I had is a bit vague now...I seem to remember a lot of cars and maybe something like a tollbooth or something. There seemed to be a horse that was trying to get by...I think I walked around the booth to get closer to...a road? and had a car or two drive past me...not much else.

All in all very interesting...very vivid dreams...haven't had those in a while, nor have I had/remembered many dreams lately. But I had a very deep sleep last night...woke up feeling I got enough sleep, even though I went to bed at my usual time.

Now back to your regularly scheduled Cellar discussions...

Nothing But Net 03-07-2003 09:10 PM

According to my copy of "The Interpretation of Dreams", this means you are going to die before the next Full Moon.

Nothing But Net 03-07-2003 09:13 PM

... or get laid. Sorry, I hadn't finished the page yet...

Sperlock 03-07-2003 09:19 PM

I find it more likely that I will die than get laid by the next full moon. Figures that the full moon is on the 18th, I'll probably get killed by some drunk St. Patrick's Day celebrator.

No, I'm not taking the dream interpretations seriously (besides, I am in a very silly mood...maybe from watching Red Dwarf on DVD), as I tend to pick up my own interpretations about them...which I have already done...except for that last dream.

That's just fucking sad... :(

Sperlock 03-08-2003 08:59 AM

Yeah, it's sad, but who knows, maybe it will happen. Stranger things have happened. Like the dream I had last night.

I seemed to be working in what was supposed to be a pharmacy but looked nothing like one. It was me and two women I don't know. For whatever reason, we were supposed to do a taste test or something for the various drugs. I had tried this one that seemed to have small red dots on it and it tasted good or something. I look at the bottle and the name concerned me as it ended in "cillin" (the whole name was there but I can't remember it). I asked one of the women if this thing was some form of penicillin and they said that it was. Not a good thing for me as I am allergic to penicillin. So eventually I start getting bumps all over my body and I was basically told not to worry since I had such a small amount, that it would pass. Eventually it did start dying down then I woke up.

These dreams are just getting stranger and stranger.

Undertoad 03-08-2003 09:53 AM

Sper, if you want more certainty in your sex life, just get married. That's what I did, and now I don't have to say "I find it more likely that I'll die than get laid..." I know for *certain* that I won't get laid. It works perfectly!

That Guy 03-08-2003 10:20 AM

What's the one food you can feed to a woman that will make her never want to have sex again?

Nightsong 03-08-2003 11:00 AM

Well now it sounds like we have a Silent hill/ Langoliers and a bad Clerks dream going on in your first half. Mind you without the death and bad puns. The Second half sounds like you fell asleep to ESPN. As to the last dream? Well very intresting are you doing ok financially...lol...Just kidding! Hey at least you remember your dreams as for me I am lucky to sleep most days...lol

vsp 03-08-2003 10:31 PM

The dream means that you want a finger in your ass. (Oh, wait -- wrong thread.)

lumberjim 10-25-2006 03:43 PM

i had a whacked out dream about Pie. She was really pissed off about her husband's habit of collapsing on top of her and falling immediately to sleep after sex. She was ranting about it something fierce, because there was a particularly messy reason that he should not do this, while at the same time complimenting his performance and.....endowment. I noticed that she had 4 green rubber bands on her left wrist, and she explained that she put one on for each time he did this per week. I was able to calculate in the dream that they had done it more times than there were days in the week so far, and remember being perplexed that he had fallen asleep more than once in a day.

the end

lumberjim 10-25-2006 03:44 PM

btw, i have no idea if Pie is even married

BigV 10-25-2006 03:54 PM

had the flying dream again two nights ago... exhilirating.

Flint 10-25-2006 03:58 PM

My flying dreams start with running, jumping, and willing gravity not to reclaim me. The jumps get longer, and higher, until I am in the clouds, flying. However, if I start to doubt my ability to do this, I start to fall again. I can focus on positive thoughts to slow the descent, but sometimes I still have to bounce off the ground a little to get back up.

The power to will myself into the air feels like it comes from within my chest.

It means:
If you fall asleep 4 times with green rubber bands around your dick, you will become more endowed. Seriously.

Sounds like super mario sunshine.

Happy Monkey 10-25-2006 04:28 PM

My "flying" dreams are actually hovering dreams. I find that if I hold my breath and concentrate I can sort of "coast" a couple of feet over the ground, slightly faster than I can run.

Not very dramatic. I definitely wouldn't be a top tier superhero.

glatt 10-25-2006 04:37 PM

Mostly I have mild nightmares. At least, they are what I remember.

Typically they will be me getting into some sort of social faux pas or doing something horrible that I would never do in real life. When I wake up, I'm momentarily ashamed/mortified, until I realize it's just a dream. Weird, huh?

Anyone know what might cause those kinds of dreams?

Spexxvet 10-25-2006 04:45 PM

When I was very young, I had a recurring nightmare. I would describe it as something "trickling" but built and built until it overwhlemed me and everyone else. In eleventh grade, my class was watching a documentary in history. They showed a commercial for LBJ - it was a little girl pulling the petals off of a daisy, counting down from ten as she plucked each petal. When she got to five there was a voice over of a "rocket-type" countdown, which ended with a nuclear explosion. Sitting in class, I almost cried with fright - it was my childhood nightmare.

OMG. I JUST read a story, not five minutes ago, about that commercial. OMG. I wonder what that means?

Daisy

the original commercial

Quote:

In the New York Times, Alessandra Stanley argues that the ad – which she calls "as disturbing — and arresting — as a hostage video from Iraq" – represents one of the few times that Democrats have put out an ad that successfully appeals to people's emotions. "In the recent past, it has been the Republican advertisements that have tended to be more bold and more memorable: the Willie Horton advertisements that George Bush used against Michael S. Dukakis in 1988 or the specter of stalking wolves that his son, George W. Bush, used to make Senator John Kerry seem weak on terrorism," she writes. "Democrats usually have to go back to 1964 and Lyndon B. Johnson’s 'Daisy' attack on Barry Goldwater to find comparably vivid ads. Until now, that is."

Nine, ten

Does anyone know what it means if your dreams are constantly about being chased and or running from something? I've been having a lot of those dreams lately. The ones where you're running, scared, lost, and you wake up gasping for air, trying to catch your breath, or you wake up at the point in the dream where someone's hands are around your neck. Is that anxiety related? Anyone got any ideas?

Flint 10-26-2006 09:14 AM

I have alot of dreams where I'm stepping on the brake pedal in my car and nothing happens... it just keeps pushing down, like a sponge.

morethanpretty 10-26-2006 07:40 PM

I often have dreams of me forgetting to do something important and the reprecussions are pretty awful. Some dreams are me failing an important paper/test/class. In the mornings I have dreams that I'm getting ready to leave...then I wake up 20mins late thinkin I'm ready to walk out the door. A dream I haven't had in awhile but have often is that I somehow win/inheret lots of money and I get to go to the mall and buy lots of clothes and stuff for myself/family. I wake up and look around for my stuff...and then feel awful that I don't have any of it.
I have had a couple of good dreams of me waking up next to my b/f. One particular was when we were a bit older and married, our child came into the room to wake me up. I told her to go into the living room and watch some cartoons while I woke daddy up. It was a good wake-up. :)
Then I had a dream that we were 60ish, all the kids were gone, we had wake up sex, and I said that we hadn't done that in awhile, so then we decided to go on vacay and get a really nice hotel, like another honeymoon.
Most of my dreams are stressful tho :(

It means that there is a new documentary about Barry Goldwater running on HBO this month, and it's getting a lot of airplay.

Just the usual BS Wolf. I started going to counseling and am in the process of not smoking (pot) multiple times a day like I use to. I use to get or feel "nervous" all the time...like butterflies in my stomach ya know? But that's been getting better during the day so maybe it's just coming out at night now? Would make sense to me I guess, if that's what's going on. My counselor talked about anxiety medication. I'm not good with medication nor do I wanna be dependant on that to not feel anxious...so what are my other choices?

wolf 10-29-2006 11:31 AM

Talk to a doctor about medications for anxiety that don't have addictive potential. Some of the newer antidepressant medications might be useful. I cannot recommend specific medications as I'm not a doctor and don't play one on TV, but perhaps folks who have had personal experience can offer their stories?

Trilby 10-29-2006 11:37 AM

Re:--non-addictive mild anti-depressant with a bit of a sedative effect: Trazodone. When I started getting the real heebie jeebies, my doc (a psych) put me on Vistaril (also non-addictive)

Stormieweather 10-29-2006 12:50 PM

I had one of those running...running...hiding...they're after me...dreams a couple nights ago. Yes, there are some stressors in my life that could cause that (potential to lose my contract employment position, etc.).

I become physically ill when I'm overstressed. Internal bleeding, rashes, vomiting, all kinds of fun stuff, so I saw a therapist to learn stress management techniques. One thing he taught me was self-hypnosis and it has helped enormously. Meditation and yoga are also very helpful in dealing with stress. I refuse to take medications to control my moods/emotions, so have had to learn how to manage them through other means.

Dreams, in my opinion, are the sub-conscious mind expressing your fears, hopes and desires in a visible manner.

Stormie

KinkyVixen 10-30-2006 01:00 AM

All food for thought, thank you! I go back this week so maybe I'll find out something then. Until then, I'll just continue to dream. When you actually realize your dreaming, while you're dreaming, it's not so bad. :)

Valerian drops. You can get them at your local herbal/organic outlet.

While that's certainly true, dreams can also be caused by foods or medications ingested before bed. For instance, I always know when I have too much Meclizine in my system when I start dreaming about my ex-husband. That's the only time he ever shows up :greenface

Sundae 10-30-2006 01:26 PM

Back on the topic of strange dreams, thought I'd share this one with you:
I am a big fan of a group of British writers/ comedians/ actors called The League of Gentlemen.

Last night I dreamed I bumped into one of them - Mark Gatiss - in a pub. I was hinting madly and angling for an invite back to his place, and eventually got one. It turned out he lived above the pub.

The stairs were REALLY steep, and I had to pull myself up them by using the bannisters. We had a laugh about how it was better for him because he didn't have to worry about being stalked by fans. Then I met his boyfriend (he does have one in real life, but I have no idea what he looks like). He was really old and grey, and dressed like a real old queen.

The flat looked exactly as I would expect a rented flat above a North London pub to look - quite shabby, run down and uncared for. But Mark kept saying how Ian had worked on it for months and it was so stylish - and in the dream I agreed.

Then I was introduced to his dog & cat - they were both long-haired and badly kempt. The dog smelled bad and the cat dribbled on me when I stroked it.

I was asked if I wanted to stay to tea, and although I agreed enthusiastically, when I woke up I felt quite pleased not to be facing their hospitality.

This is a vague running theme with me. I meet people I really admire in my dreams and either they are really rude to me, or drunk, or stupid or (in this case) just a bit manky.

I'm sure there's a message in there about self-esteem. Sigh.

Clodfobble 10-30-2006 03:22 PM

In the vast majority of dreams that include my husband, something bad has happened and he is nonchalantly insisting that it's really no big deal.

It would be tempting to interpret this as a fear that he doesn't take me seriously, except in real life I am usually the unconcerned one.

glatt 10-30-2006 03:41 PM

It's merely a flesh wound.

Bullitt 11-04-2006 10:04 AM

Last night was nuts.. one of those long dreams that seem like they won't ever end..
I was at a concert trying to keep the scuzz from sneaking in by jumping fences and crap, and bruce was helpin me out, along with glatt, bigv, ibram, and flint. Everytime I looked at one of ya'll your name in green type would appear over your body. And bruce, you were freakin sweet man. This crazy chick kept comin after me tryin to bite me and scratch me and crap, and you took her down with a taser pistol every time she'd come after me (~10 times i'm guessing). Then the show started and we all chilled on the lawn and drank coronas.

good times with cellarites

Dude, that's sweet! I'm honored, in the strangest way. I love those long "adventure" dreams.

Billy 11-05-2006 07:39 AM

My mother thinks that the dream indicates something to be happened. For me, I don't believe that. I don't know why I have strange dreams in my trip because of the soft pillow.

Last night I dreamed that one classmate of mine studying in Renmin Univeristy, a Chinese famouse university in Beijing, wanted to go hometown but lost money. He want to borrow money from me. We all came from same place and good friends. I wish I could helped him, but I could not did because I had lent my money to other people.

I felt strange this morning when I woke up. I have not contacted and met the classmate for years. And he did not study in the school and never borrowed money from me.

The fact is that yesterday one friend of mine wanted to borrow some money from me. I wanted to help him but cant do because I have lent all money to a friend to cure his serious sickness. I also have a big debt for it and will take months to return the money.

For this point, I think the dream is what we think much about something on day and still think of it at night when we sleep. Please don't consider it too seriously. It is just a nature matter. It means nothing but what we think.
