Mythology

Where is the line between real and fake. I would say right between your eyes. Get hit in the head hard enough you come up an English Accent. Get God in your Head Your No longer Insane. But Who Says Who's God If there is No Authority, then there is No God. JESUS is the Authority. The FATHER is the Authority. The Holy Spirit is the Authority.

Flint 09-17-2013 01:03 AM

Yeah, fuck yeah!

Or maybe not, fuck that!

Or who knows--maybe so, maybe not?

DanaC 09-17-2013 06:20 AM

Wtf with the English accent?

Clodfobble 09-17-2013 08:16 AM

There's a few medical cases where patients with head injuries seemed to speak with a foreign accent afterwards. Sometimes it's because they spoke that foreign language growing up, and they've damaged the part of their brain that mastered their new accent and regressed back to an earlier mental state; sometimes it's because they've just acquired a certain speech impediment that happens to sound like a Dutch accent or whatever... I dimly recall that there was a case of this sort of thing floating around the news recently, I imagine that's where he got the reference.

"Where is the line between real and fake."

Or: how does one know what is real and what is fiction?

Here's one test: ask yourself if the thing you're wondering about continues on if all humans cease to be.

If you answer 'yes, that thing I'm wonderin' about will be around even if all humans are not' then what you have is 'real'.

If you answer 'no, that thing I'm wonderin' about will not be around if all humans are not' then what you have is 'fictional'.

Examples of real stuff: trees, water, dirt, air, etc.

Examples of fictional stuff: any religion, any politics, any philosophy, any morality, any ethic, etc.

BigV 09-17-2013 12:42 PM

hq, you're confusing fictional with abstract or intangible.

and the Kids Make the Rules so erase old rules and let the kids make new ones the game just keeps repeating until the kids grow up....

God is not physically real. God is spiritually true. And truth is in the eye of the Authority. And the Authority is us.

Jesus and Nothing But Jesus
Jesus and Nothing But Jesus

Love the Lord Love the Lord
Let the Lord Love you

henry quirk 09-18-2013 12:49 PM

"God is spiritually true."

What does 'that' mean?

Is Santa Claus 'spiritually true'?

#

"truth is in the eye of the Authority"

No. Truth is what is real and requires no 'authority' to validate it.

##

"Jesus and Nothing But Jesus"

Ishkabibble.

Agreed.

What does 'that' mean?

It means whatever you want it to mean, which makes it your truth, and truth is in the eye of the beholder (authority).

Depends on what you believe. The real Saint Nicholas died on December 6, 343 A.D., but the idea of Santa Claus is alive and well in the hearts and minds of anyone who still believe, especially young children.

Rly? What about his Father?

I find it interesting that the believers are always praising Jesus, but not his Father. What's that about?

fargon 09-19-2013 06:26 AM

Praise the Lord, we say that a lot also.

henry quirk 09-19-2013 09:21 AM

"It means whatever you want it to mean..."

Which is to say: it means nuthin'.

##

"truth is in the eye of the beholder"

If 'truth' is what is 'in accord with fact or reality', then -- no -- it is not in the eye of the beholder.

##

"the idea of Santa Claus is alive and well"

HA!

No, the fiction of Santa Claus (entertaining and sometimes useful) is promulgated as tradition and convention.

*Santa Claus, the eternal gift giver who owns flying deer and delvers presents to the world in a single night, is not alive, is not well, is not real.

Believing in a fiction can be great...it can get one through a sea of crap...it can make a dark night pass more easily...in the end, though, the fiction is still fiction.

*shrug*

*when a seven year old believes in Santa, this can be charming and sweet...it can also be a useful tool to help the kid bridge between fiction and reality...

John Sellers 09-19-2013 02:40 PM

Believe what you wish, Henry. It's not my concern.

If you read the bible when paul came to repentance he resolved to know jesus and nothing but jesus... because he already knew the rest...

The Bible = Religous Dogma. I don't need some book most likely written by some random monk in order to believe in God..or His son.

"It's not my concern."

Good answer, John.

Now, where have I heard 'that' before?
