Between Philly and Pittsburgh is God's Land
1 Attachment(s)
You read that right, PA has more religious fanatics than anywhere else.
Case in point. Keep in mind poll results are heavily dependent on how the questions were asked, by whom, and of whom, but I think this is pretty close. |
Some rather strange "percentages" in the top right corner, there.
|
They were allowed more than one answer.
|
As a statistical method, that is sometimes appropriate, but here, the options seem mutually logically exclusive. How can one believe in Evolution AND creation?
|
My father does.
He believes God created Life, because nothing can come from nothing. But living in the UK, where belief in evolution is the norm, he tempers this with the belief that it was all part of God's design. He's not completely wedded to the Old Testament. Apart from the gays being degenerates. He manages to ignore the dietary laws though, because thse were just for the Jews. |
I grew up in that zone between Philly and Pittsburgh. It was pretty annoying.

Unfortunately, many have not learned beyond the first printing. Are told and only understand science as it was known in prehistoric times. Furthermore, top management can enrich itself by brainwashing these people. By claiming that no later additions exist. Keeping these people naive means scam artists, masking as ministers and clergy, can even own fleets of private jets. A friend, who made a living doing scam phone calls, loved calling the most religious. They would virtually believe everything he told them. Some people remain that easily brainwashed. |

God created life. Evolution explains how. No problem. |
I'm not knocking it. He's decent, rational, compassionate.
Apart from the gays. |

Think about it. Could you also have a Cousin It? And so we have a family of Man. One part was the Adaam's family. Would you worship your Cousin It? |
Neither am I, it works well for millions.
|
Well then what's between the moon and New York City?
|
I'm not sure.
But there's nothing you can do about it. |
I could fall in love!
Sorry, that's the best that I can do. |
Thanks for the offer and all, but I think I'll stick to the complementary nuts ;)
|
they are a really polite lot around here aren't they? :D
|
Infi knows if she was complimentary I'd just gobble her up.
I know where she lives.... Oops, too far...? |

for me, reading tw is so exhausting I haven't the strength to do more. |
Well ...
We are the only colony that was founded on the principle of true religious freedom and diversity, unlike Maryland and Rhode Island which were for segregating the papists ... |

That's a fucked up survey. They asked science teachers if they believed in creationism.
That, by itself fucks the survey for me. Fucks it hard. It also continues to offend me when anyone who believes in God is automatically a fanatic. |
Why does asking science teachers fuck the survey? That's what they were investigating, how science teachers feel, and how it affects what they teach.

You mean America? The country which surveys suggest* would never elect an atheist? That fear Islamists just because of their religion? That a minor but noisy minority had an issue with JFK purely on the grounds of his Catholicism? The UK can't be totally proud of its history, but I think more recently we've been better at tolerance. Perhaps because although we have a state religion it's based on scones and afternoon sherry and more tea Vicar? Quote:

* never trust a survey. But this thread is about surveys. |

I had a feeling I read it wrong.
'pologies. FTR you (as a country) could still do with more scones and tea. And sherry. |
Yeah Pennsylvania was the actual religious freedom colony. If you look at New England it was about the right of oppressed religious to in turn oppress. Talk about founding myths.
|
I always liked Georgia: nothing to do with God, everything to do with running away from your crippling financial debts in the Old World.

Now, are we clear? |

Perhaps I've read more American posts because they're in English. I avoid British Islamophobia just because I know what sites I might encounter it on; but I won't pretend it doesn't exist. |
