12:12:12 12/12/12 is coming!

We've had one like this every year for the last 11 years, but this will be the last until 2101.

If we last that long. ;)

So, what are you going to do for it?

Lamplighter 12-05-2012 07:49 PM

My wife suggested a 12/12/12 party.

She said she would cook a dozen eggs.
I said I would bring a baker's dozen doughnuts, but the 13 was rejected.

Happy Monkey 12-05-2012 08:06 PM

Eat one on the way home.

Sheldonrs 12-05-2012 08:13 PM

12/12/12 is already a national holiday. It's my 52 birthday. :-)

orthodoc 12-05-2012 08:20 PM

My oldest son is being sworn in to the bar on 12/12/12.
I have to figure out a good place to celebrate in DC ... :)

Rhianne 12-05-2012 08:56 PM

I'll be lurking at The Cellar.

SamIam 12-05-2012 10:49 PM

Probably down at the Fed Ex office, paying extra postage to send off my Cellar Secret Santa package because I procastinated so long.

ZenGum 12-05-2012 11:02 PM

After discussion with a friend, I've decided to celebrate by calculating 12^6 with pencil and paper. Hmm, can I do it in my head...

No way! You cannot be in your 50s.

Trilby 12-06-2012 05:59 AM

Oh, forgot to answer the question. I"ll be doing the opposite of rapturing. I suppose it will involve fire and brimstone but I'm not sure if this part of the country has brimstone. We may have to settle for limestone. we've tons of that.

I've based my financial planning on the whole world ending 12/21 so....here's hoping!

I'm as young as who I feel. I was 24 on Saturday. hehehe

BigV 12-06-2012 10:34 AM

to be 24 again.

a nightmare.

glatt 12-06-2012 10:41 AM

24 was a pretty good age. It's better now though.

infinite monkey 12-06-2012 10:42 AM

I remember being 24. Only because I remember these lyrics, and thinking 'oh gosh there must be more' only to find out there IS more but it's mostly crap. ;)

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
And there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.

Those of us who only have nine fingers know better. That date is really 13/13/2675. And you will be 57. We know you were really born in the year 2617. People with ten fingers just get confused. Their number looks smaller. Then they don't feel so old.

ZenGum 12-09-2012 05:59 AM

Sod that, my age is hex28.

tw 12-09-2012 12:41 PM

On year 2000, computers would crash and the world as we know it would come to an end. Wacko extremists easily created that fear among naive ten finger people. Extremists forgot to mention that the year 2000 was more commonly known as the year 1024.

Fear is so easily created among those with ten fingers. Only fewer ten finger people with education saw through those extremist lies and fears.

In a few weeks, eight finger people will celebrate the new year: 3720. Be fearful. That number contains a zero digit.

Meanwhile we all know the world will end in 4000. Or the year 2048 to those who count using ten fingers.

ZenGum 12-09-2012 04:09 PM

tw 12-09-2012 09:43 PM

People foolishly assume god has ten fingers when they predict a future based in digits. We all know god has 666 fingers.

God only uses one finger and he/she has been giving it to us for at least 2000 years.

How's this for a 12.12.12 coincidence...

3-mile-wide asteroid to buzz planet Earth tonight
Quote:

A giant asteroid will make a flyby of Earth over the next few days, and armchair astronomers can watch the action live on their computers.

The near-Earth asteroid 4179 Toutatis, which is about 3 miles wide,
will zoom within 4.3 million miles of Earth
during its closest approach early Wednesday morning, Dec. 12.

That's too far away to pose any impact threat on this pass,
but close enough to put on a pretty good show through top-notch telescopes, researchers say.
And some of those scopes will be tracking Toutatis' movements for
the benefit of sky watchers around the world.
The online Slooh Space Camera and Virtual Telescope Project, for example,
will both stream live, free footage of the asteroid from professional-quality observatories.

"Slooh technical staff will let the public follow this fast-moving asteroid in two different ways.
In one view, the background stars will be tracked at their own rate and the asteroid will appear
as an obvious streak or a moving time-lapse dot across the starry field," Berman said in a statement.

"In a second view, Toutatis itself will be tracked and held steady as a tiny pointlike object,
while Earth's spin makes the background stars whiz by as streaks," Berman added.
"Both methods will make the asteroid's speedy orbital motion obvious as it passes us in space."

Okay I'm half an hour early. :p:

Aliantha 12-11-2012 07:23 PM

well with daylight savings you were over an hour early Zen, but really, who's counting?

ZenGum 12-11-2012 07:28 PM

Posted 11.35 my time, but my mobile internet emerges onto the real web somewhere in Queensland*, so the Cellar thinks it was earlier.

*So I keep seeing these "Meet girls in Brisbane today!" ads. I think they're they same blonde chicks that wanted to meet me in Japan, too.

Aliantha 12-11-2012 07:31 PM

OK, my statement was back to front. I should have said 'without' daylight savings...cause we don't have it up here, mostly thanks to bloody idiots, but who cares. Maybe they're the ones who'll be...I dunno...disappearing or something in half an hour or so?

I still can't wait for Christmas!

Aliantha 12-11-2012 07:40 PM

ZEN!!! Are you still here??? Is the world still alive???? ZEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNN!!!!!

Aliantha 12-11-2012 07:41 PM

Oh shit, I'm 2 mins early.

Surely it'll be Mayan time. What time is it now in, er, Maya?

Would that mean we'll all be mayonnaised.

Hold the Maya!

Aliantha 12-11-2012 10:30 PM

Maybe it's just you yankies who're on the 12/12 hit list? Most like Spain though right? Aren't they the ones who caused the end of the Mayan civilisation?

xoxoxoBruce 12-11-2012 10:36 PM

Climate change did the lion's share, then the Spanish polished them off.

BigV 12-12-2012 02:20 PM

dammit. eight minutes late.
Quote:

Now if man had been born with 6 fingers on each hand, he'd also have
12 toes or so the theory goes. Well, with twelve digits, I mean
fingers, he probably would have invented two more digits when he
invented his number system. Then, if he saved the zero for the end,
he could count and multiply by twelve just as easily as you and I do
by ten.

Now if man had been born with 6 fingers on each hand, he'd probably
count: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, dek, el,
doh. "Dek" and "el" being two entirely new signs meaning ten and
eleven. Single digits! And his twelve, "doh", would be written 1-0.
Get it? That'd be swell, for multiplying by 12.

Hey Little Twelvetoes, I hope you're well.
Must be some far-flung planet where you dwell.
If we were together, you could be my cousin,
Down here we call it a dozen.
Hey Little Twelvetoes, please come back home.

Now if man had been born with 6 fingers on each hand, his children
would have 'em too. And when they played hide-and-go-seek they'd
count by sixes fast. And when they studied piano, they'd do their
six-finger exercises. And when they went to school, they'd learn the
golden rule, and how to multiply by twelve easy: just put down a
zero. But me, I have to learn it the hard way.

Lemme see now:
One times 12 is twelve, two times 12 is 24.
Three times 12 is 36, four times 12 is 48, five times 12 is 60.
Six times 12 is 72, seven times 12 is 84.
Eight times 12 is 96, nine times 12 is 108, ten times 12 is 120.
Eleven times 12 is 132, and 12 times 12 is 144. WOW!

Hey Little Twelvetoes, I hope you're thriving.
Some of us ten-toed folks are still surviving.
If you help me with my twelves, I'll help you with your tens.
And we could all be friends.
Little Twelvetoes, please come back home.
