Words With Friends

Anyone still play this? I've just gotten it on my phone, but I don't do it through Facebook, not sure if that excludes me from games with people who do... My username is Clodfobble, if anyone wants to hit me up.

BigV 11-13-2012 08:43 PM

Flint 11-13-2012 09:41 PM

You philthy, philthy boy...

BigV 11-14-2012 09:51 AM

what's your words with friends handle gravdigr?

Chocolatl 11-14-2012 10:51 AM

I love Words with Friends! I'm Chocolatl there, too. I tend to play very slowly and at strange hours when I'm up with the baby.

BigV 11-14-2012 11:00 AM

I play slowly too.

Game on!

BigV 11-14-2012 11:22 AM

I love this game.

Flint 11-14-2012 02:20 PM

Yeah, man. I hope I can close the gap. Good game.

Clodfobble 11-14-2012 03:57 PM

Dude, Flint is currently kicking my ass up the street and back again. Excellent lexicography by this gentleman.

Spexxvet 11-14-2012 04:48 PM

I prefer scramble with friends

Undertoad 11-14-2012 04:49 PM

I prefer scrambled with fries

plthijinx 11-14-2012 05:17 PM

scrambled eggs, sauteed jalapenos and onions with fresh ground pepper/sea salt topped with Pace picante sauce and shredded cheese.

and bacon....but that goes without saying

footfootfoot 11-14-2012 05:47 PM

err, what's words with friends?

plthijinx 11-14-2012 06:38 PM

Online scrabble. Addicting!

glatt 11-14-2012 06:46 PM

It's the 2nd reason, after the crappy camera, that I want to ditch my work Blackberry for an iPhone after the contract expires in January. Can't do Words With Friends on the Blackberry. And I tried it on Facebook but didn't like how it reported my playing it to everyone.

Lola Bunny 11-14-2012 07:26 PM

Clodfobble and Chocolat, I'll play with you guys.

footfootfoot 11-14-2012 08:37 PM

I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I watered it in fears
Night and morning with my tears,
And I sunned it with smiles
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright,
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine -

And into my garden stole
When the night had veiled the pole;
In the morning, glad, I see
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.

Scrabble on your smartphone. LolaBunny is beating me, has the high ground on bonus tiles...I got out-maneuvered!

I'm playing 6 matches; one of my random opponents just quit when I got out 100 points ahead.

Glatt, Verizon is giving away the iPhone 4 right now--get one!

I'm playing with you??? Or is this another Bunny? I've got only one match going on. I only see the name zyngawf_#######, and I've been waiting for him to play his turn.

Flint 11-15-2012 01:36 PM

I'm playing "LolaBunny" ...???

BigV 11-17-2012 12:58 AM

I need more opponents

Ahhh....how I wish that were me since she's beating you. :p: I am not good at scramble. I'd play with you if you didn't already have 6 matches going on. but then you may have to dump me after a few games because i'm so bad...hehe.

Sure, if you don't mind sometimes waiting a day or two before I could reply. I sometimes get busy and can't answer everyday or right after you've played your turn. If you think how I play won't upset you, add me. I'm pming you my username.

Flint, i'm gonna pm you my username too in case you want more opponents. my usewr is the same for both scramble and words with friends. the reason why I don't put my user name here is because it's a personal name. don't want anyoen irl looking for me to find me. :D damn, i'm so tired. ciao!

Flint 11-17-2012 06:55 PM

Sorry, LB and all, I'm resigning all my matches as soon as my turn comes up. Too much going on in my life right now to have another time-sucking distraction to contend with.

To be honest, I also have some problems with the game, coming from the expectation that it would be like Scrabble--it isn't, at all, when there is no "challenge" aspect, and you can either Google words or just flop down tiles until something sticks.

Lola Bunny 11-17-2012 09:32 PM

It's no biggie, Flint. Games are for fun or something to relax with. If it ain't making you happy, then don't play. :)

This is funny, because playing the game has actually been reminding me why I never liked the real Scrabble--too much reward for point strategizing, not enough credit for badass words. IMHO there should never be a situation where a word like "hand" gets more points than "ennui."

I don't have a problem with 'hand' being placed in the right area of the board being worth more points than 'ennui' --because the game (Scrabble) involves two skillsets: vocabulary and spatial reasoning. I don't have a problem with point strategizing, because that is the measure of your success within the rules of the game. The problem with WWF, however, is that the rules of the game are dumb. The entire concept, of Scrabble, breaks down with no challenge system in place.

btw, Clodfobble, I've been wanting to play 'ennui' but never had the opportunity where it would have scored well. It's a cool word, but how do you measure coolness? In my mind, the classic measure of Scrabble coolness is where your spatial reasoning can find that spot where your vocabulary fills in that cool word, and 'ennui' hits TW on the e, DL on the u--and your opponent didn't think you could get into that corner.

That would be cool. Memorizing the 101 two-letter word combinations allowed in the Scrabble dictionary...is not cool. Because that isn't a transferable skill, such as, you know, having an actual vocabulary of real words that you know how to use in a sentence.

Clodfobble 11-18-2012 08:12 AM

This is why Boggle (and modern derivatives like Bookworm Adventures) is still the best word game ever invented.

Flint 11-18-2012 12:03 PM

What's Bookworm Adventures? I bought the pay version of regular Bookworm a few years back, to unlock the higher levels. I was looking for a free Bookworm app when I found Word Jewels 2--it involves the same skill. But what is the 'adventure' part?

Clodfobble 11-18-2012 01:07 PM

It's an RPG version of the same game. I don't think there's a mobile version, I was just talking about the old PC one.

plthijinx 11-21-2012 09:47 PM

clod, try the wordzup app. it's boggle on your phone

infinite monkey 11-22-2012 08:12 AM

Pogo has an app with Word Whomp. I love word whomp.

Chocolatl 12-26-2012 12:08 PM

This morning a friend introduced me to a game called Letterpress. It's like a love baby between Boggle and that game where you draw lines to make boxes and once you close the box it's yours.

(Connect through GameCenter -- I'm Chocolatl there too if anyone is up for a game.)
