What was the most recent movie you watched on TV?
And I'm talkin' straight-up over-the-air/cable/satellite TV, not watchin' movies via streaming or download services on TV.
Ok, now that I got that out of the way... [begin] Real Steel on Encore east Awesome! |
"Return to Oz". Actually a decent amalgamation of the second two Oz books.
|
I was flipping around and landed on some old Chuck Norris movie where Chinese smugglers were bringing drugs and explosives into the US, and Chuck's friend, a cop turned out to be corrupt and working with the smugglers.
It was worse than it sounds, but fun to watch it because it was so bad. |
Caught "Open Range" the other night. On Ion, I think.
Awesome flick. |

Tron: Legacy on Encore Family
Visually spectacular enuf for me to see 10+ times, yet still not as good as the original. Oh, and the best thing about T: L? OLIVIA WILDE |
Was going to post that I saw the british Death at a Funeral, but then realized this is about on air/satellite/cable and I saw it over Netflix. As someone who has no piped-in TV, never mind.
|
Formula Science Fiction Crap Sucks, on HaveABrainChannel at 10:45 pm.
|
I also saw Real Steel. It felt very eighties, but with modern special effects.

I just have broadband internet and get my TV shows and movies through services like Netflix and youtube. |
On the weekends I get to pick the channel on the lobby TV at the rehab. This past weekend I went for BBCAmerica late Saturday Night because The Timey Wimey of Doctor Who special was on ... so it was still the active channel on Sunday, and I watched Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.

Stir of Echoes. For the third time. I still couldn't remember what happened.
First time I was definitely drunk or stined. In fact I must have fallen asleep about 10 minutes in, because the second time it was all new to me. And it confused me enormously, because I think I had it mixed up with at least two other films, one of which was Momento. I kept waiting for things to happen which didn't. So when I saw it again on late night TV I Sky+d it as it didn't have subtitles. Can't watch a film without them if the 'rents are in bed, I miss half the dialogue. Anyway, it turns out it was better than I remembered. Not quite as pedestrian. So that was a plus. Not amazing, and in 5 years time I might rewatch it without quite knowing how it ends again. I Sky+ some complete crap late at night. A few minutes in, I realise there are no subtitles and hit Record. The next day I am staggered by the inanity of the script and the dire acting. Delete! Sets and costumes are usually good though. That's where the money goes I guess. Shocking. |
I caught the last half of As Good As It Gets the other day. I needed it, I really needed it because it made me laugh. Even through this scene, where I cried THEN laughed. I forgot how good that movie is.
|
Heehee, and this one:
|
I watched horrible bosses and office space Saturday night.
|
The original Psycho with Anthony Hopkins and Janet Leigh.
|
The Cabin in the Woods. Now that was cool. If more horror were like that I wouldn't ignore the genre.
|
Have not watched a movie on broadcast tv since the zings were born.
|
Iron Man 2 was on last night. I watched 30 minutes of it. Does that count?
|
Count as a movie? No. No it doesn't. ;)
I think that's why Cabin appeals to those who don't like the horror genre. It's not really horror. It starts out that way, but quickly slides into zombies (who haven't been scary since the living dead (night of the...and dawn of the..) and sci-fi apocalyptic big budget high action same old. It's great if you like that sort of thing, but i wouldn't call it 'horror' myself. Sinister is one of the best horror films in a long time, cleverly using the oft-overdone 'found footage' in a new way. and it's really scary. But you don't hear much about it because there just aren't enough explosions. Cabin is a neat premise. So was Waterworld and The Truman Show. And any type of horror or sci-fi calls for suspension of disbelief. But Sinister was just downright scary and creepy. And, Ethan Hawke. ;) Pay me no mind. This is just a random posting by the Grumpy Critic. I don't do real critiques because i just piss people off, then feel badly about it. But I do consider myself a 'scary movie afficianado.' Which brings me to Insidous 2, which I saw Monday. I was the disappoint. :p: |
Hiya grump! ;)
|
The Brothers Grimm with Matt Damon and Heath Ledger-worth watching twice. I love all that fairy tale gone awry stuff-the graphics/visuals weren't too bad either
|
"Easy Rider", last night on THiS.
|
THiS is awesome. Always something on. And when I flip by, I always say "what's THiS?" It never gets old.

Let's expand on this subject shall we? I'm creating a new thread similar to this one, but with less restrictive parameters. Look for it.

The Big Chill was on TV the other night. I tried to give it one more chance. I couldn't do it. I had to turn it off right before I knew Glenn Close was going to offer her husband's penis to Mary Kay Place.
Great cast, great soundtrack, but omg I hate that movie. It might be a generational thing: my ex liked it and he was of that generation. But I didn't like it when it first came out and I still don't see The Big Charm of it (William Hurt excepted.) |
This may seem like a non-post (it is) but I am writing in support of Infi.
Excepting I can't remember what the film was... And it probably didn't have a great cast or soundtrack. I saw on in the TV listings when the 'rents were away and thought, "That'll be cool to watch again." But the film was both too young to be classic and too oldfor me in terms of gender politics. Never seen The Big Chill so I can't assume this was Infi's issue. The film I watched just made me flinch too often. And not in a good old scare way. Aha - narrowing it down to a horror at least! |
I felt like I was supposed to like Big Chill because the soundtrack was so popular, so I pretended, even to myself, that I did. But in hindsight, it was nothing special. Breakfast Club was much better for me at the time. Although that really sucks in hindsight too. It's all "my parent's just don't understand me." Boo fucking hoo.
|
See, I don't feel that way about the breakfast club. It is what it is: a funny look at a bunch of different high school kids in the 80's, and it's funny. It doesn't take itself too seriously.
The Big Upchuck was supposed to seem so deeeeeppppp and meaningful and blah blah blah. What a pretentious bunch of assholes. A serious slap in the face to an entire generation imho. |

i love scary stuff.
I also like to read (or listen to audios) scary books. |
Whutsa book? J/K I do read, but only for informational purposes.
|
Currently watching Dawn of The Dead (remake) on Syfy.
|
Any good? I loved the original, but I've been a bit hesitant about the remake.
|
Rubbish. IMHO.
|
Here's how stupid I am. I just now this moment realized that Simon Pegg's "Shawn of the Dead" was a play on "Dawn of the Dead."
Yes, I am that stupid. |
Ha!
Many movie titles are pretty much meaningless, so you are used to only using them as a set of words for referring to a specific movie. At least that's how I treat them. The worst were the string of movies about 20 years ago that were "[adjective] [noun]" like "Primal Fear" and "Last Seduction" but the name had almost nothing to do with the movie content. |
We watched Kick Ass last night. Earlier, yesterday, I watched the last hour of Pineapple Express for the 4th time. both edited for TV, but in Kick Ass, 'Balls deep in your ass' got past the censors somehow. it was quite clear.

Exactly! What does Basic Instinct even refer to in that movie? That's the Sharon Stone murder mystery one. The only instinct I can remember from it is Michael Douglas humping every woman he sees.
