So how many gadgets is too many?
I have a Nokia C7, an iPod touch (4th gen), just acquired my Best Beloved's iPad 1, and have a Kindle (keyboard) which I never use, though keep loading books onto it, and an Eeepeecee. netbook for work travel purposes.
I'm finding it hard to imagine what I'll use the iPad for - it's just he has a newer one so I thought I'd road test it. Then again, I like the look of the Nexus 7 ... but shouldn't it replace something (or things) that I already have? Your thoughts, please ... |
I still use a flipphone and my Nook was a surprise gift...I kept telling my husband that I would never get a reader, but he couldnt resist getting me one anyway. Thats it for gadgets. They bother my practical side. However, I have found a wonderfully practical use for my Nook. When I find a recipe on line, now I can have it in the kitchen with me, without having to copy it.

You can NEVER have too many free gadgets, otherwise, it depends on your needs and available funds.
|
Number of gadgets should equal N+1 where N is the number of gadgets owned.

I think this thread is about to turn into another discussion of the nature of infinity.

How many gadgets are too many? 42. As defined in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe.
|
Send me your spare gadgets.
I will nurture them into retirement. |

I've gotten into this surreal place in my life where I'm sitting in a room with a friend or two in it, with my laptop on my lap, checking my facebook on my cell phone.
I don't think I like it here, and my kids are going to grow up with a cell-phone-computer attached to their faces... I don't like that either. |
[thread drift]I must say I could happily adopt either of "my" spammers names ... rhybrinignany and especially SoliFlato! Don't you think this last sounds like he (or she) enjoys farting alone in bed?[/thread drift]

Yes, but in HGTTG, 42 is not the answer to how many gadgets constitutes too many. 42 is the answer to the meaning of life, the universe, and everything. By stating that 42 i s the answer to the maximum number of gadgets one can possess, you're employing a paradigm that doesn't exist. [/channeling Dr. Sheldon Cooper] |
It's too many if you have them all plugged in and blow a fuse. ;)

3 pc's, 1 netbook, 6 digital cameras, 1 Nook SimpleTouch, 1 ColorNook, and uncountable cell phones.
That's too damn many gadgets. ETA: Forgot the spare pc in the closet. |
I must be doing something wrong.
How do y'all afford all these toys? |
Two words:
Pawn shops. Plus, I'm an old horsetrader, from way back. |
You buy them over the years and don't throw them away.
About a year ago, I paid to get rid of two old Macs. They had built-in monitors and so I had to pay $15 each to get rid of them. I had a couple external CD burners that I also got rid of, and a flat bed scanner that had the wrong cables to connect to anything I still owned. I just picked up a broken laptop and a really old laptop from my dad, so now I have 3 old laptops (1 is broken), 1 old desktop, 1 work blackberry, 1 old iPod, and 1 GPS for the car. So that's 7 items. My wife has a smart phone and my daughter has an iPod Touch. So that's 9 gadgets. And I just got that fancy new thermostat, so that brings our household up to 10. |
Heh. My brother believes in a TV in every room. I love me some gadgets, but I'm always astounded at everything they have being state of the art, and how much of it they have.
And I'm a horrible saver from way back. Been wanting to save up for a TV from this century for some time now...but there's always another shirt to buy or beer to drink. |
TVs are coming down in price. They were like $800 for a 32 inch, but now you can get a decent one for $300. A regular TV should cost $300. The prices are fair now.
|
Mostly I'd like a bigger TV because of all the movies I watch.
I looked at some at The Wally World. Where would be the best place to buy? |

Well then none of the computers are mine because we all share them, and the phone is a work phone. So I guess the old iPod and the thermostat are mine. And I suppose my wife would say the broken laptop is all mine. Come to think of it, my wife uses the thermostat more than I do, so that's really hers more than mine, even though it was a gift to me. So really the old iPod is mine. And the broken laptop. I have 2 items.

Just this ashtray is mine... And this paddle game. - The ashtray and the paddle game are mine... And this remote control. - The ashtray, the paddle game, and the remote control, are mine... And these matches. - The ashtray, and these matches, and the remote control, and the paddle ball... And this lamp. :D

My wife thinks it's too cold, and I don't. So we draw swords in the hallway ---> many walking wounded. |
