God Purity and Truth...

You know I think that if more people saw Jesus as something pure, which he is, then there would be less friction on the battle field of truth. If Jesus were to return today and see all of this "mess" of false profits and corruption he would be very disappointed. So I am making a decision to be pure, and in a world of hate and confusion I see that the biggest 'sins' I have is this... "smoking" "masturbation" and "lying". I think smoking is going to be the hardest to stop. Masturbation for me is just the most pathetic thing and I am not really going too worry to much about it. Lying should be easy to stop because I don't really have much to lie about, I got hung up with a lying spirit there for a little while but I think it's gone. So how bout U. Do you have sins you'd like to repent of....

Rhianne 08-10-2012 07:02 PM

No.

DanaC 08-10-2012 07:11 PM

*shakes head*

JBKlyde 08-10-2012 07:13 PM

Oh common everybody has 'something they are working on... I understand if you don't want to tell, sin is a private issue you don't have to tell if you don't want to. It's not like I'm a catholic priest...

DanaC 08-10-2012 07:14 PM

I don't really believe in 'sin' in the way I think you mean it.

Rhianne 08-10-2012 07:15 PM

I'll be truthful with you JB, morals I'm fine with but I'm not sure I even understand the concept of sin.

DanaC 08-10-2012 07:19 PM

I'm pretty shaky on the concept of purity whilst we're about it.

The link helped, thanks. I'd now like to change my earlier answer to 'no, definitely not'.

In Abrahamic contexts, "a sin" is an act that violates God's will.[1][2][3][4] Sin can also be viewed as anything within a person that violates the ideal relationship between them and God.[5]
This becomes a meaningless definition if you don't believe in God.

I'm not trying to be flippant with that. I understand that you do believe in God and in Jesus Christ as the son of God. But I really do not. And so 'sin' as you mean it is meaningless to me.

There's nothing, absolutely nothing wrong with masturbation. It is not sinful. It is just physical pleasure. Lying is only 'wrong' because it makes your word untrustworthy. Sometimes lying is a bad thing, sometimes it's a useful, necessary or even kind thing.

Personally, I think things are 'wrong' if they cause harm. Someone wants to sit in their bedroom smoking pot and wanking like a zoo-bound ape, well then fine. I see no problem with that. Someone wants to walk into a post office toting a gun, well that is wrong. Want to pull your pecker whilst looking at nudie pics, have at it. Want to prey on the weak and instill fear in others, that is wrong.

think of a new born baby... that child has never committed a "sin" or harmed anyone or any thing, it has no intention of doing any harm or harming anything.. it's pure...

BigV 08-10-2012 07:40 PM

what about original sin? is that baby headed for heaven or hell should he die as an infant? (god forbid)

JBKlyde 08-10-2012 07:47 PM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_sin

BigV 08-10-2012 07:49 PM

yeah...I get that.

What are your thoughts on the subject? What is your answer to my second question?

JBKlyde 08-10-2012 08:09 PM

I think that every child deserves a fair chance... if you've ever seen the movie the passion of the Christ it depicts a child in the hands of Satan.. I dunno what that means but it sure seems evil now that I think about it... children of Satan are opposite of children of God in the sence that 1John51 says that everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is Born of God. I imagine that if you don't believe that then indeed you are Satans child or simply just in need of salvation.

BigV 08-10-2012 08:23 PM

do you think an infant believes in jesus christ?

JBKlyde 08-10-2012 08:29 PM

I think they can, like me, be christens.. and dedicated to Jesus at a young age.. I don't think they actually have the ability to believe in anything at all except maybe there mothers breast...

What makes you think that Jesus isn't here today? How do you know he hasn't already returned?

John Sellers 08-10-2012 10:34 PM

JB, you just like provoking people, doncha?

Because for 1. They haven't shown it on ctn and that's pretty much all I watch.
And for 2. Though he may be here in spirit and yes he is.. a Physical presence would mean that His Kingdom has been established on earth and Zion is not a secret society.

How am I provoking.. If you don't like my attitude please feel free to check and balance me.

JBKlyde 08-11-2012 02:37 AM

ANd let me correct myself.. I do watch cnn and other news stations but ctn is where I put my attention...

Spexxvet 08-11-2012 07:39 AM

I want to repent. I regret having created religious institutions.

I think we can agree that Jesus was one of the good guys of history. To me "sin" is confined to doing ill to others. The three you mention are all connected together. They can be coping mechanisms, attempts to keep our head in the right place. Lying can have a significant effect on others, but it can also be a way of protecting others. I have to be careful with that one because I need to recognize when I'm a being avoidant, protective, or lazy about knowing my own mind. Smoking is not generally good for you, but if you need that to successfully relax your mental state it is actually a good. Masturbation is not a big deal unless it causes you to constantly objectify your fellow (wo)man leading to other de-humanizing behaviors. Letting go of the imposed guilt aspect of masturbation helps turn it into a healthy mechanism.

The main chink in my armor is anger management. I spend a lot of time on keeping my mental state healthy... when I'm not posting on the cellar. ;)

How can a devout Christian disregard the Ten Commandments?
Jesus never refuted the Commandments, they are still there as the gold standard.

God is omniscient. If he was that stressed about wanking and smoking, he'd have managed to get that in somewhere. He was not impressed by lying. He told Moses that and Moses passed it on. Forget the other two, this is what you need to work on.

I don't know you well enough to make a point of any of the others, but in general I think you should take more care about the old Top Ten and stop worrying about genitals.

I live in a country where the majority of people self-identify as Christians, but a poll identifying the Ten Commandments gave a mixture of the Seven Deadly Sins (from the film, not from Pope Gregory) and the Seven Dwarves.

Wanky and Smokey did not feature in any of the three.
Liar, liar, pants on fire did.

Hope this helps.

That tells me your closed minded, which is the essence of Christianity.

No thank you. I'm done tryin' to make you understand that we're NOT going to conform to your views.

Blessed be.

Slight sidestep, but I feel quite relevant to the OP.

Here are two people answering the question: Are Jesus and his teachings still relevant in Britain today?

First, comedian and writer, Jon Holmes:

Second, Former Labour MP Tony Benn: (love this man)
