Coffee...

fargon 04-04-2012 07:23 AM

Coffee GOOOOOD!!!

BigV 04-04-2012 10:28 AM

I will close whatever you require for coffee.

I just bought another bag of beans yesterday. My God, that smells good, so good.

Undertoad 04-04-2012 10:37 AM

SteveDallas 04-04-2012 10:51 AM

I am going to get a cup right now.

Getgo 04-04-2012 11:20 AM

Eight O'Clock Coffee is the best.

What brand do you think is good, BigV? Beans for espresso.

wolf 04-04-2012 02:33 PM

Coffee is the driving force that makes second (and third) shift possible.

SteveDallas 04-04-2012 02:37 PM

Also: my office has a Keurig coffeemaker and complimentary K-cups.

I will never turn my nose up at free coffee. However, news flash: "Folger's Gourmet" is an oxymoron.

wolf 04-04-2012 02:47 PM

The Folgers K-Cups are terrible. Stick with Coffee People, Caribou, and Newman's

SteveDallas 04-04-2012 03:40 PM

I stick with whatever the office purchases! There are usually several choices, though, so I'm rarely forced to use the Folger's.

jimhelm 04-04-2012 05:17 PM

I like jet fuel and green mountain dark magic

Aliantha 04-04-2012 05:28 PM

Actually, I was just having a winge about feeling sick after a week of wellness. I wonder if it's got to do with the 5 cups of coffee I drank yesterday. Hmmmm...maybe. I usually only have one or two, and not espresso!

Spexxvet 04-04-2012 05:33 PM

Anybody have a recommendation for inexpensive k-cups? I keep hearing of the mythical sub 50 cent cup, but have yet to find it.

Yummy. I go for Jet Fuel, Black Tiger, Wake Up Call, Wolfgang Puck Caffe Vienna, Tree Hugger, and Caribou Obsidian. I go for the Dark Magic if I can't get any of those.

I like Lowery's Premium Roast. I usually get Espresso Reale (not shown, interestingly) or Elliot Bay Fogcutter, they're both very good. I buy five pound bags of beans and grind them one pot at a time. I grind it espresso fine and use my french press for regular coffee. This usually means there's *plenty* of actual coffee beans ground exceptionally fine in my cup. I like it that way. I sometimes get other brands, Starbucks, Millstone, Five Star, or other local roasters to change things up. I think my favorite region is Sumatra, it is just delicious. I am not especially fond of very dark roasts like French Roast.

Spexxvet, I have done the math on my coffee costs and it comes out to $0.12 per cup with the coffee described above. Please note, I get it at the store for about $42/bag, not the higher price plus shipping. TOTALLY worth it.

New England French Vanilla is my latest favorite. Its pretty cheap too.

jimhelm 04-04-2012 09:22 PM

The best I did was the jet fuel. 50 for $30 on amazon. There were cheaper packages, but they all seemed to be samplers.

Thanks, V. Sounds like you like your coffee dark too. I have an espresso machine so I toss the beans into the machine and it grinds the beans when it makes the coffee(espresso).

wolf 04-05-2012 06:11 PM

Jealous ... If I do espresso, I have to grind the beans and then dump them into the machine.

An espresso machine is an ultimate self-indulgence that is soooooo worth it. If you're a coffee drinker, that is.

I've been drinking cafe lattes but felt like having a black one this morning.

limey 04-11-2012 10:02 AM

I like my coffee long ... Have a pint mug at home for my morning filter coffee. The worst thing about staying in hotels is the piddley little coffee cups they provide at breakfast. Getting refills is not the same!

I'm with you limey. My favorite coffee mug is 16 ounces. I almost never have "just one". I drink that one, then fill 'er up, rinse, repeat. Minus the rinse part.

limey 04-11-2012 10:50 AM

Sixteen ounces is for sissies, BigV! A proper pint, an English pint is 20!
I used to have two, sometimes three mugs, but have scaled back to just one, most days.

classicman 04-11-2012 06:36 PM

2 @24 before noon .. then ZERO or I'll never get to sleep.

wolf 04-11-2012 07:14 PM

I have been undercaffienated this week. The new nuthouse does not have a coffee maker in the office. I don't know how they do it.

Reminds me of cakes in the 'Dam!

Lola Bunny 04-12-2012 04:59 PM

That cup of coffee is two shots of three bean level espresso with a shot of boiling water. :p: (One bean being the lightest level.) I didn't want to drink too dark that morning. In the afternoon, I would either drink cafe latte or hot tea. For most of the day, I like to consume water, plain H20.

Sundae: Your coffee cake looks good. I have a few things I still want to try out. For the time being, I am under baking arrest. I've gained too much weight, and my sister has forbade me from baking for a while. Okay, she can't really forbid me, she got on my case and nagged a bit.

Limey, Sundae: Those cakes in the glass case look absolutely yummy!

DanaC 04-12-2012 05:27 PM

I drink waaaaay too much coffee. And way too much tea. I've never counted up, but I wouldnt be surprised if it added up to 15-20 hot drinks a day.
