No Photos From Me For A While
Yes, this should go in the What's Upsetting You thread, but it's just too upsetting for me not to make a big song and dance about it.
My camera isn't working  I broke it. At least I assume that's what happened. I went out during the day yesterday and took quite a few photos. I was fiddling about with it when I got back and somehow realised I had put the battery back in the wrong way. That's why I couldn't close it properly. And since then it hasn't worked. ARGH! I really cannot justify buying a new one. I mean, I really can't. It's a pure luxury item. But it is a luxury item that I use at least once a week, so I will miss horribly. And the belief that I broke it myself just makes things worse. Obviously I am only posting here for extreme sympathy. But I am in need of it. |
sorry, Cherry.
that's a bummer |
Out of interest what kind of camera is it?
|
That sucks. I'm sorry!
|
A Kodak M1072 (IS) 10.2 mega pixels.
In pink. It's outdated now of course, but I was happy with it. |
I'm so sorry. That is the suck of life, isn't it: losing a cherished
thing that brings some joy. Hugs, sweetish PS if it helps I was lectured to this morning by my dad! |
Stop the press. I will have a new camera soon.
Wonderful donator may choose to come forward or not. But I will have one. A crummy day turned into an amazing evening. |
It's great that someone bought you a new camera, but did you take the old camera to someone who knows about them to see if it really is bust or something easy to resolve? More often than not, in my experience, they turn out to be pretty simple to fix or even resolve themselves.
BTW cellar, I need a new minivan........ |

And it's not really a donation, so much as combination belated Christmas/early birthday pressie. |
Life was better when things could be fixed, wasn't it? Can't remember the last time I saw a TV repairman ... then again, the last time I saw one, he was a second or third cousin, or something, and only charged my mom for parts, no labor.

Was gonna suggest eBay, Sundae. My Kodak MD41 goes for as little as $15. 12.1 mp, reasonable capabilities for price/size, good macro function...
|
It's possible the problem could actually be the battery. Do you have a spare to try? What happens if you try to charge it?

Yeah, for digital ... remove battery and memory card, leave for a day, put mem card and new battery in, press ON, wait half an hour.
I'd give it a 25% chance of working. |

Probably what's happened is that a small plastic tab on the battery cover door has been bent or broken. This means that the camera can't tell if the battery door is closed and it's safe to start up. You've seen how the battery is "keyed" so that it only goes in one way (without forcing it). When it is in the "wrong" way, there's no telling what little bits get pranged.
I could be more helpful if you described it more. But with your recent news, perhaps the point is moot. I believe that the camera is repairable though, based on the little you have shared here. |
So, take some photos of the battery bay of the camera ...
... ummm ... |
Hey, let me wrangle this thread away for a moment:
I left my phone here at work a couple weekends ago. I wasn't about to drive down here to get it, so the battery was dead when I retrieved it. I charged it and it then had a little icon that says my SD card is damaged. I can't take pictures or retrieve any of the old ones. It gives me an option to reformat, but that does nothing. I've removed the battery and the SD card to kind of 'reboot' but that did nothing too. Any ideas anyone? |
:eyebrow:
Is the Check Engine light on? Umm, does the SD card have one of those write-protect tab lock thingies? Did you check that? |

Do you have another way to access the sd card? A card reader in a computer, a different phone or camera? Just sitting around isn't a high risk activity for an sd card. I have had them report problems over the years and in fact I have a specialized program on my computer (whose title escapes me at the moment) I have used to retrieve images and other files from sd cards that were reported damaged.
