Rick Santorum: Obama is a sworn American enemy

No, REALLY.

Here's his new campaign video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=DApjHZq9o7M

Watch it again. 40 seconds in, with the line "sworn American enemy", the image of Ahmadinejad flickers momentarily into Barack Obama.

no, REALLY.

He's literally putting in "subliminal" images. This is just... too much.

Go home, Ricky.

Rhianne 03-23-2012 06:03 PM

Didn't I read recently that 'subliminal cuts' (which I'm not convinced this is actually supposed to be) don't work anyway?

I do think it's an awful piece of film though.

Ibby 03-23-2012 06:12 PM

i did put subliminal in scare quotes for a reason. I dont buy that it's honestly subliminal or intended to have subliminal effects, but still. It still calls obama a sworn enemy of america. what the fuck.

infinite monkey 03-23-2012 06:30 PM

It's the most sentimentalized piece of crap ad I think I've ever seen. It doesn't even need subliminal, it's screaming for the hearts of the stupid and easily led.

Jebus would be rolling over in his grave.

Seriously? I thought he was up there, flying around with all the space debris.

infinite monkey 03-23-2012 06:35 PM

Debris is the the devil's workshop.

HungLikeJesus 03-23-2012 06:42 PM

(I almost said space junk, but I didn't want to offend anyone.)

infinite monkey 03-23-2012 06:47 PM

Space Ghost likes space junk in the trunk.

BigV 03-23-2012 06:55 PM

There are some people who already feel this way. Santorum was showing how much of a good ol' boy he is down at the shooting range. As he opened fire on the targets down range, a woman in the audience, off camera, says "Pretend it's Obama!".

Seriously? Yeah, seriously.

Ibby 03-23-2012 07:03 PM

Santorum, to his credit, disavowed the shouts.

BigV 03-23-2012 07:09 PM

genie's out of the bottle, though, right?

infinite monkey 03-23-2012 07:14 PM

Yeah, it's sad.

It's called a modicum of decorum, people. Try to have some.

I'm glad to hear Santorum didn't play into it, but that comment is indicative of a certain frame of mind of many of his supporters.

Enough with your fancy-pantsy Latin mumbo jumbo.
If English was good enough for Jebus, it should be good enough for you and me.

But some of us will say anything for a laugh.

By the way, could someone post the meaning of the word santorum in their sig line (the one at the bottom of the post, whatever that's called).

infinite monkey 03-23-2012 08:44 PM

I'll say anything for a laugh...if it's actually funny. ;)

Hold my beer and watch me make a stupid gun remark about our president doesn't qualify.

TheMercenary 03-24-2012 12:14 AM

Obama needs to go. Anyone but Obamay in 2012.

Griff 03-24-2012 07:49 AM

What does Obamay mean?

infinite monkey 03-24-2012 08:27 AM

Roughly translated: black president.

HungLikeJesus 03-24-2012 08:56 AM

If only people knew how to argue their point with logic instead of hate.

If it comes down to Santorum and Romney, I'll hold my nose and vote for him again.
I cannot understand how ANYONE but the most extreme would vote for Santorum for anything.

Is the minstrel show language an admission of his American heritage? I guess that's a step in the right direction anyway. I'm with Class, if Santorum gets the number 2 slot on the ticket, there is no way my vote puts that guy one heartbeat away.

Santorum is secretely employeed by the Obama Campaign committee. No wonder he refuses to release his tax returns.

Flint 03-24-2012 07:11 PM

Man, I wish we could go back to the respectful exchange of opinions we had under Bush.

Lamplighter 03-24-2012 07:44 PM

V, you do know you told half the story and stopped there.

From ABC News:

Quote:

But the yell - the identity of the yeller is not clear, although the words were clearly audible - was in close proximity to journalists traveling with the candidate.

"It's absurd," Santorum said of the woman's outburst when reporters told him about it. "No we're not pretending it's anybody but shooting pistols. It's a very terrible and horrible remark and I'm glad I didn't hear it."

I'd argue against that. What we can be sure of is the woman is not a likely Obama voter. This does suggest a becoming disdain for bread-and-circuses and statism, which means maturity and a measure of intelligence.

classicman 03-26-2012 07:51 PM

Dunno about that, but he sure as hell wouldn't hear her, or anyone else, with his earmuffs (lol) on.

ZenGum 03-26-2012 07:52 PM

So yelling "pretend its Obama" at a shooting range constitutes maturity and intelligence, does it?

classicman 03-26-2012 08:57 PM

ZG is currently on fire (insert appropriate smilie here)

Describe for me exactly how Obama is more "bread-and-circus-y" and "statist" than any of the competition in mainstream politics, and exactly which policies of his are major policy failures, please. What has Obama done that has been worse for America than what John McCain and Sarah Palin would have done.

classicman 03-26-2012 09:23 PM

BZZZZT - "would have done" undefinable vector.

Ibby 03-26-2012 09:25 PM

Okay, that Romney or Santorum claim to be against.

BigV 03-26-2012 10:06 PM

No, UG, I didn't tell only half the story. The story is that there are people who support Santorum that feel it's funny/appropriate to shout "Pretend it's Obama!" while people are shooting at a gun range. That's the story. That some people are blinded by their hatred of President Obama that they'd suggest shooting him. That's all. This particular asshole got her remark captured and repeated.

You talked about another story, how Santorum was reported to have disdained the woman's remark. So what? What does that suggest?

richlevy 03-31-2012 06:50 AM

Seriously, if it became a choice between Obama and Santorum, all it would take is a few clips of Santorum losing it and the announcer stating 'Is this the man you want in control of the world's largest nuclear arsenal'?

Or just dust off the 'Daisy' ad.

Seriously, say what you will about Obama or Romney, but they at least appear to have stable temperaments. While being the darling of the 'red meat' conservative and evangelical sets, moderates and independents are going to take one long look at Santorum and vote for Obama or abstain.

Being in the Philadelphia market, I was exposed to Santorum's "Elephant in the Room" columns in our local paper. He writes a lot like he talks.

Paranoid religious zealot is probably the kindest thing that can be said for him.

Griff 03-31-2012 08:37 AM

Turns out Santorum is registered to vote in two states. I wonder if the GOP anti-voter fraud folks are offended. I wonder how many passionate partisans cross State lines on election day?

Spexxvet 03-31-2012 08:50 AM

Griff 03-31-2012 08:51 AM

nope

Ibby 03-31-2012 10:29 AM

Nah. I have deep suspicions about his racism (along with all his other bigotries), but no way would a presidential candidate slip up and almost call him a nigger in a pre-written or at least pre-broadly-scripted campaign speech. it wouldn't fit, in that speech, to call him a nigger, even if you WERE that sort of racist.

Having not read any story on this, it's probably PA's weird voter registration practices at fault. They avoid taking anyone off the rolls for anything but death or inactivity.

classicman 03-31-2012 06:05 PM

Quote:

After USA Today found that he was registered in two states, Rick Santorum asked to be dropped from Pennsylvania's voter rolls. Santorum has homes in a Pittsburgh suburb and Virginia and voted in both places in different 2010 elections that year. "He obviously votes in Virginia and would never vote in two places," said his spokesman Hogan Gidley.
?????????? weird.
