Whitney Houston Dead

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-17001548

must admit to being kind of shocked/surprised by this one. I know she has the right background for a sudden, early death, but Michael Jackson surprised me far less.

BigV 02-11-2012 08:11 PM

Wow, RIP Whitney. She was beautiful and lordy, that woman had some pipes.

wolf 02-11-2012 08:16 PM

She had a set of pipes on her, but I never liked her style of extra-quavery pop. What really struck me is that she was two years younger than I. Higher mileage, but younger.

sexobon 02-11-2012 09:03 PM

Anyone with that much talent who throws it away as she did ought to be charged with a crime against humanity. I liked her pop style and still enjoy her early albums; but, have had no use for the person she subsequently chose to be. Good riddance.

regular.joe 02-11-2012 09:36 PM

RIP Whitney. No one gets out alive and coffins don't have saddle bags. See you somewhere down the line most likely.

Griff 02-11-2012 09:40 PM

Caught me off guard but she's had a rough time of it.

Clodfobble 02-11-2012 09:55 PM

Better that the drugs got her than Bobby Brown, I guess.

lookout123 02-11-2012 11:22 PM

Like you already said, MJ I expected. This one not so much. She's been out of the news long enough I guess I figured she'd cleaned herself up. bummer.

Same here. I hated what she did to I Will Always Love You.
I did like My Love Is Your Love though.

I liked it when she did it but the copy cats got very old.

To early ????

I, for one, feel a tremendous sadness at the passing of Whitney Houston. She had the voice of an angel, and she was so beautiful. The fact that she wasn't perfect, that she had demons (that an angel should have demons) made her all the more real to me. She wasn't a joke.

I'm not one to fawn and paw over celebrities, but I am appreciative of artists of any kind who are a cut above most. I admire especially the ones who almost don't even seem real, they're just that good.

I have a VHS of SNL Music a Go Go (from first 15 years of SNL music) and one of the features where they show the whole performance is Whitney doing "I'm Your Baby Tonight." Decked out in the dress of the time, dyed denim shorts with holes, a cute jacket, she was so young and beautiful. I asked my ex if her performance was lip-synched because it was just so perfect. He's a musician, and with his better perception of such things told me there was one little part, one little note that was just a little off, and that's one of the reasons he knew it was live. I couldn't detect it, and I still listen to that performance (when I have my VHS player set up) completely incredulous that it's a live performance.

R.I.P. Whitney. You were one of a kind, one in a billion.

What he said. Adding: Hearses don't have luggage racks.

Yeah...Still fuckin funny tho.

monster 02-12-2012 04:57 PM

very nicely said, IM.

Do you love or hate The Bodyguard?

infinite monkey 02-12-2012 05:09 PM

I've not seen The Bodyguard...never seemed my cup of tea. What about you?

monster 02-12-2012 05:27 PM

Love it
/guilty secret

It's one of my Christmas vacation go-tos.

That and True Lies

I love Dirty Dancing too, though, so my taste could be described as dubious at best.

I also love Goodmorning vietnam, Full Metal Jacket and A Fish called Wanda.

infinite monkey 02-12-2012 05:33 PM

Well then I'll check it out. :)

Someone I never expected told me he thought Dirty Dancing was not bad, and I jokingly fell to the floor, pounding the carpet, saying "no.....no.....no." LOL

FMJ is one of my top ten.

You know what, I've not seen True Lies either. That's Jamie Lee, right?

Aliantha 02-12-2012 05:41 PM

I love The Bodyguard. I think it's a great movie.

And Arnie. it's very silly.

monster 02-12-2012 05:47 PM

...And I like Die Hard and Love Actually and Four Weddings and Bend it Like Beckham and and Peter's Friends and Muriel's Wedding .....I guess I'm kinda eclectic

infinite monkey 02-12-2012 05:57 PM

Eclectic is good. I note movies in your list that might not be on my list, but I can see the appreciation of them.

Then again, I also like Love Actually (just posted about it recently and have watched it again since then) and Muriel's Wedding and Four Weddings and a Funeral.

So I've seen two recommendations for The Bodyguard, and I'm going to get it.

monster 02-12-2012 08:21 PM

This is the song of hers I loved as a teen

I hated what she did to The Star Spangled Banner. Gave me chills, not the good kind. You don't have to make the National Anthem "yours." You just have to sing it. And not screw up the words.

Harry: Yeah, but they were all bad.

wonder if smoothmoniker ever worked with her?

I loved that song, too. It was played constantly on VH1 back then and VH1 was constantly on at my house back in 87/88. I had to play it just now, and was surprised at how well I remember it, even now.

I still think that album was her best.

RIP, Whitney.

I just saw a TV comedy/quiz show in which the contestants had to unscramble anagrams to reveal a musician. It was a re-run. I'm sure if it was live they wouldn't have used "SHUT IT NOW, HONEY".

JBKlyde 02-13-2012 07:36 AM

I was right to begin with it's the end of the FOKing world..

repent while you still can.. turn from evil people.. this game is mortal confidence.. and only the righteous will survive.

Sundae 02-13-2012 07:55 AM

Historically, only the self-righteous survive.
And they do that by crushing other people's heads.

JBKlyde 02-13-2012 09:07 AM

I think it's a sad day in america when I've been sitting here on tampa151jupiteratlantis asking for recon and I couldn't at-least get a hello maybe I did and just didn't recognize the voice and if that's the case I deserve to be labeled a convict but you know they were talking about politicians coming up dead and I'm in the pit.. am I supposed to be some kind musical genius if I were I wouldn't have said we all fail. This is going to come down to Armageddon FOR REAL and I'm not some great bible scholar.. Yea I said at one point I wanted to be crushed but that's just how bad I wanted to be humble... this thing with kip is amounting to be a "diversion" so I'm saying to kip "I Repent" I don't need his forgiveness because I know I'm forgiven by Jesus. This whole BET is so unfamiliar to me I guess it's a family and I'm just not invited. Fine I just don't understand why people would go so far out of the way to screw me over when I mind my own business yea I mixed a few words But you know that PETE guy I actually won him over to Christ at one point so this whole DMX shit is what made me psycho. He's the one shooting people for no reason with maddnes on his brain. Alls I do is masturbate myself into oblivion.
Whatever I remember her as the Body Guard with Kevin Costner Dances with Wolves. THE END

Umm, about that partial hospitalisation treatment you mentioned. Maybe print that last post out and show it to them. Best of luck.
