Scotch in a can = eight shots of 80 proof booze for $5

"It’s the pour that matters, not the vessel"

Distributed by the Florida-based company Scottish Spirits, this canned liquor "boasts an exceptional blend of the finest malt and grain scotch whiskies, is amber in color (and is) rich in honey, vanilla, butterscotch, apples and pears taste with a nice hint of peat and smoke in the background."

Sounds like a mighty fine product.
Where were you during the depression?

Quote:

A 160-pound man who decided to drink an entire can in one hour would find himself extremely intoxicated with an approximate .18 to .22 blood alcohol level, enough to cause motor impairment, loss of memory and blackout. :vomitblu:

(On the college campus, though, a night of chugging fun can turn this quality product into :skull: in a can.)

From the NY Daily News

oof ... I have a headache just from looking at that

infinite monkey 02-07-2012 10:27 AM

I came, I saw, I vomited my face off.

If he's never drank before and has the liver of a little girl, maybe.

I think I'll pass on the canned liquor, all the same.

Ibby 02-07-2012 11:16 AM

Eight shots? in an hour? blackout? Maybe in an elementary school, yeah.

classicman 02-07-2012 11:36 AM

raises hand. Maybe I'll have memory loss and blackout after puking my guts up.

glatt 02-07-2012 11:53 AM

I'd black out.

Do not want.

Sundae 02-07-2012 11:53 AM

80 proof?
Ah, just looked it up. We use ABV standard rather than proof, so it's about usual strength whisky.

I might not feel too hot having 8 shots of whisky in an hour. But that's only 8 units.
I could have that before work and still do a competant job.
(FTR I have never and would never do this in my current job)

Oh hang on, your shot sizes are larger than ours.
Drinking with furriners is fraught with peril.

Gravdigr 02-07-2012 12:51 PM

A shot is an ounce-and-a-fifth isn't it?

I transpose facts sometimes.

Sundae 02-07-2012 12:54 PM

Ours are 25ml, yours are 44 (yes, an ounce and a fifth)

DanaC 02-07-2012 01:29 PM

Ahe, I was gonna say. With whiskey I could probably manage two or three doubles in an hour. But that's British doubles.

Anyway, that's just wrong. That whole thing is just wrong.

BigV 02-07-2012 04:42 PM

That is some cheap whisky.

I have had 8 shots in an hour. I think it slides right through happy to sleeping where ever I landed. But, it would also depend on how much I have had to eat too. It would have to be pretty tasty booze to get 8 shots in though. I like my liquor neat.

Yeah, I talk big, but, what he said.

!!! Pedantry alert !!!

The Scottish stuff is whisky without an 'e'.

Noted.

Pete Zicato 02-07-2012 09:06 PM

DUI in a can.

You would end up eating eight of these--remember these?--which might actually improve the situation.

wolf 02-07-2012 09:38 PM

You can haz that cheezburger.

Flint 02-07-2012 09:40 PM

I guess the cans would be...portable, but seriously, though, who never heard of a flask? A flask fits in your back pocket.

Like you'd be able to eat a cheeseburger from a flask. Maybe on planet Anteater.

monster 02-07-2012 11:39 PM

Ok, I feel so much better. I drink way, way too much beer and it doesn't have the effect on me it should, but -if I could stomach whisky at all- I'd be joining the blackout/barf crew in an hour easy peasy. I do about 4 beers an hour top speed. 2-3 is more like normal. That would be overkill in a can.

SPUCK 02-08-2012 05:46 AM

The can should have a skull and crossbones on it.

DanaC 02-08-2012 05:48 AM

Sticking that much whisky in a can that looks like a single serving is asking for alcoholic poisoning casualties.

ZenGum 02-08-2012 06:01 AM

Absolutely. People with a large body mass and experience with alcohol could handle that, but a slim young bloke could probably kill himself with two, maybe even one. Sure, they could do that with a bottle, but a can is not resealable like a bottle and we are used to finishing a can quickly. A can implies that this is a reasonable amount to drink, in a quick time.

Well, it's not much worse than a half-bottle of the same stuff. I don't like it, but I wouldn't ban it.

Oh, that puts you on par with the anti-contraceptive crowd.

Oh, I thought all whiskey had the 'e.' Never noticed this one didn't. Interesting.

BTW, I did the equivalent with 1/2 pint of Jack Daniels. Chased, of course, with some kind of cheap beer.

It all started with a fight with my mom and ended with me trying to figure out how in the H I was going to get down from my tree limb when the ground wouldn't stand still.

(And then I had to ride on the back of a motorcycle. How DID i survive those days??)

I was in high school then. I learned to choose my drinking spot very carefully after that. :p:

(Still can't remember how I got the booze in the first place. Certainly not mom . . .)

Aliantha 02-15-2012 05:02 PM

Obviously I have some serious capacity for alcohol because I'm pretty sure I could drink that much vodka (my spirit of choice) in an hour without much trouble at all. Well, obviously not now, but if I weren't pregnant and trying to lose weight, oh yeah, and that's not really happening now either.

FML.

Don't forget the Japanese version, too: uisuki!

Sundae 02-16-2012 02:52 PM

Or the original Gaelic, Uisge Beatha (water of life).

infinite monkey 02-16-2012 02:57 PM

We had a dwellar named that for a while.

Wonder whatever happened to him? I was half sure he was my old Lycos pen pal from Scotland.

Remember his zucchini?

Sundae 02-16-2012 03:19 PM

It was a whopper.

monster 02-16-2012 08:09 PM

And the incontinents: Whizz key.
