Please Help My Friend

My friend has entered a competition to have an aussie cricketer come to her house on Australia day. While it may not seem like a big deal to most of you, it would be huge for her and her family. She's the mother of 4 kids, two of which are still not at school, and one who is special needs. If you can possibly help, all you need to do is open the following link and click vote. You can also share the link on your FB page if you have one.

Thanks so much for taking the time out to do this. I really hope she wins this prize. During the devastating floods last year, she dropped everything to work in her community helping others less fortunate. She turned her house into a second hand depot, taking in donations and helping to sort and distribute. She also baked like there was no tomorrow cooking for those who couldn't.

I don't know a single other person who deserves a little treat more than this woman.

DanaC 01-18-2012 05:24 AM

Entries close midnight 20th January 2012.
That'll be Australia time (one of them, in summer we have five), roughly 6am on the 19th USA time.

Aliantha 01-18-2012 05:35 AM

Thanks guys. :) It will be so totally awesome if she wins this comp. She's only about 300 votes behind the winner, so maybe she might pip him at the post if she's lucky. :)

Dazza says that now the competition has been 'Cellarized', it'll go to a million. He has more faith in you guys than I do I think. lol

Aliantha 01-18-2012 05:36 AM

trac and griff, she says thanks and lots of other very grateful stuff. She's very excited now. :)

monster 01-18-2012 06:07 AM

well it's gone up by several dozen while I've been watching, so I reckon you'll do it. Yes, I voted. Won't seem to let me vote more than once though ;)

DanaC 01-18-2012 06:09 AM

Yeah...funny...I noticed that. But I wonder...

DanaC 01-18-2012 06:12 AM

Ha. Clear browser history :p

xoxoxoBruce 01-18-2012 06:19 AM

Vote fo Chainsaw Jones.;)

DanaC 01-18-2012 06:25 AM

She's 64 ahead. Come on people.

Aliantha 01-18-2012 06:35 AM

It seems to have gone a bit viral since the kids started on Facebook. Lol. Now she's worried about getting disqualified. I don't think that's possible though. She hasn't done anything wrong.

DanaC 01-18-2012 06:38 AM

Well. They'd have to go looking at ip numbers. And my guess is every single high scoring garden on there has people making multiple votes. None of which is the responsibility of the contestant. It's the worldwideweb. If their systems can't secure single vote only, that's their problem.

As long as the contestants haven't been doing it.

Likewise, there is no rule there saying that you have to be a local to vote. It's a webpage, and the contestants have every right to tell people about it.

(I've noticed it going up in little chunks. There's a 500 vote cushion now ;p)

Aliantha 01-18-2012 06:42 AM

It's the teenagers. Aden told all his online friends and told them to tell theirs etc. Before you know it, there's hundreds of people voting. Isn't that what fb is all about. Social networking?

DanaC 01-18-2012 06:43 AM

Damn right.

Between facebook teens and determined dwellars, the competitition doesn't stand a chance :p

Aliantha 01-18-2012 06:48 AM

The nearest competition is about 300votes behind now. I don't know if he'll be able to catch up. He might already have used all his teenage connections. lol

DanaC 01-18-2012 06:51 AM

If you mean that Richards bloke, he's actually over 700 behind.

She's gained about 1000 votes since you and the kids posted about it.

monster 01-18-2012 06:54 AM

 You're gonna have to eat crow ....does dazza need help with a recipe? ;)

Aliantha 01-18-2012 06:55 AM

Eat crow? Why?

monster 01-18-2012 06:56 AM

Becasue Dazza believed in the power and you didn't......

monster 01-18-2012 06:57 AM

I'm just teasing, nm

Aliantha 01-18-2012 07:01 AM

Oh yeah. Well that's true. lol He's gone to bed now, but it was funny. He said he was going to bed and put his computer down, got up and went into the kitchen, then he came back and turned his comp back on. I said to him, "I thought you were going to bed", and he said, "Yeah I am, I just want to see how many votes now". lol

Aliantha 01-18-2012 07:02 AM

Again, thankyou to all of you who voted. Every vote counts, so it's really great that you would all help even though you don't know this woman. She really is awesome though. :)

it 01-18-2012 07:13 AM

hey you [insert some random comment when the only goal of this post is to bump this thread to the front page and keep it there until midnight 20th January]

DanaC 01-18-2012 07:51 AM

hahahaha. I like.

it 01-18-2012 09:30 AM

the rules say 20 votes per IP address.

BigV 01-18-2012 01:28 PM

also... how in the world are you seeing a leader board? I can see the gallery with the votes in the corner of each thumbnail... is that how you folks are following the "score"? By my reckoning, there's no one within 2000 votes of her.

classicman 01-18-2012 01:59 PM

^^WHS^^

DanaC 01-18-2012 02:57 PM

Yeah, I hadn't spotted the 20 limit. But it did stop letting me reload it after a while.

Ah well...she got my 20 votes :p

Did you see page two? There's a guy on there who is doing pretty well too. He's only got 1300 to her 2600, but he could be trouble.

on my second pass through I did see that entry. You're right, GET BACK OUT THERE AND VOTE PEOPLE!

I was able to easily vote twenty times by using Firefox's private browsing mode. I copied the url I needed to get to, invoked private browsing, pasted the url and went to the page. I voted and confirmed my vote. Then I stopped private browsing.

Once back in regular browsing mode, I started private browsing again and repeated the process. Easy peasy.

Aliantha 01-18-2012 04:55 PM

Ha! You guys are sneaky! lol

That's amazing.

She's about 1500 in front this morning, and the others are not moving very quickly, so I think it's just about in the bag unless someone else goes viral overnight.

You guys are awesome! Mwuah! Mwuah! Mwuah!

CzinZumerzet 01-18-2012 05:29 PM

Voted and will vote again tomorrow, just off to bed:)

ZenGum 01-18-2012 06:32 PM

Sheldon and Matt Hayden, eh? Did you wear out that WWF chap already?

I'll use that private browsing trick for tonight. 19 more votes, coming up!

monster 01-18-2012 06:39 PM

Um, did they adjust the figures? I'm seeing 1143 for her and 1323 for him.....

it 01-18-2012 09:38 PM

bump...

Aliantha 01-18-2012 11:21 PM

Yeah, I don't know what happened yet. I think they took a whole heaps of votes off which seems unfair to me, but maybe someone was scamming it. I'll have to wait and find out.

classicman 01-18-2012 11:24 PM

whats the frikkin score? I still don't see a way to find out other than looking at every single person and their vote totals.

Aliantha 01-18-2012 11:32 PM

The 'in private' browser votes don't show an IP address, so they took all of those away.

I've just pointed out to my friend that plenty of people use in private browsing all the time anyway, and that I hope they've taken votes away from others who might have been using 'in private' browsing to vote.

What??? Someone SCAMMING this competition??? I cannot believe such slanderous accusations. :D

Aliantha 01-19-2012 12:40 AM

lol...I know. You just wouldn't believe it would you?

OK, I have the story now. They deleted all the votes that didn't show up with an IP, which means there were probably plenty of legitimate votes deleted too.

So, if you've got 10 mins and you're still interested in helping out, vote up to 20 times, but make sure it's not in private.

It means you need to clear your cookies after every vote, so it's a bit more of a process, but if you can do it, it'd be awesome. :)

sexobon 01-19-2012 12:50 AM

Working on it now ...

Aliantha 01-19-2012 12:55 AM

Awesome! :)

ZenGum 01-20-2012 05:29 AM

Two hours to go, Team cellar on 1300, second behind some dude on 1990. Aw crap. C'mon guys, charge for the line. I'm all voted out.

Aliantha 01-20-2012 05:40 AM

I don't think she's going to get there Zen. She's been ripped off by then taking away all the votes that were in private. Plenty of people do private browsing these days, so she's lost a lot of votes that way. :(

I hope I didn't contribute to a problem here with my suggestion. I will say, the reasoning for "deleting a vote that doesn't have an IP address because it is in private browsing mode" is bullshit. The remote computer system can and does know the IP address of your computer and mine or else it couldn't display the page at all. I don't know what did happen, but claiming "private browsing prevented us from seeing the IP address" is a weak canard.

glatt 01-20-2012 10:38 AM

Yeah, I don't want to say this is a crooked contest, but this is a crooked contest.

glatt 01-20-2012 11:07 AM

*looks around*

who, me?

Yeah. I think it's arbitrary that they just deleted half of the votes for one person and didn't seem to do it to any of the others.

how I read that.... ;)

Aliantha 01-20-2012 08:11 PM

Yeah, I agree, but she's not inclined to argue the point. Such is life. I'd be having something to say, and I said that if they deleted all her in private votes, they should do the same for all other contestants at the very least.

I think it really sux to be honest, and I feel really annoyed personally because I think she's dirty at me in a way because so many votes were deleted, but on the flip side, her votes has stalled till my boys got involved, but I don't think she's really considered that.

Kinda sucks when you try to help out a friend and it all goes belly up.

Sundae 01-21-2012 05:38 AM

Sorry for you Ali, sorry for her.
I so wanted this to end in success.
