The King.. "TIK"

TOCK

"when the clock stops the gears go unwound"... as you can see the clock stopped at T'he K'ING.. so how do we get this clock ticking again.. well I think it varies from culture to culture.. I believe that Jesus is the KING of KINGS so in order to get the clock ticking again we have to wind it back up every December and remember that Baby Jesus was born this month, and we celebrate his birthday on the 25th.. I will glorify the King of Kings I will glorify the Lamb I will glorify the Lord of Lords who is the Great I am..

DanaC 12-15-2011 01:39 PM

I will glorify the turkey and I will glorify the tree...

infinite monkey 12-15-2011 01:40 PM

25th.

The 24th is reserved for reality. That's when my aliens are coming back to get me.

But yeah, Jebus' birthday is celebrated on the 25th.

Undertoad 12-15-2011 01:41 PM

Kingdoms are tyranny. To worship Kings is a fool's errand.

jimhelm 12-15-2011 01:49 PM

You do know that Jesus was not actually born on Dec 25th, right? Christmas is celebrated on the 25th because the Xtians wanted to oust the Yule and Winter Solstice celebrations.

Quote:

Although Christian feasts related to the Nativity have had specific dates (e.g. December 25 for Christmas) there is no historical evidence for the exact day or month of the birth of Jesus.[76][77][78]
So, in fairness, there is a 1/365 chance that it IS the 25th.... why not just celebrate his birth EVERY Day?

JBKlyde 12-15-2011 01:50 PM

i fixed it.

infinite monkey 12-15-2011 01:51 PM

I know dat, Jim. I also know dat it's CELEBRATED on the 25th.

I mean, if we're going to have a thread about a king with a tic, we should be accurate.

Am I missing an 'in joke' something? According to Wikipedia Elvis was born on January 8th.

JBKlyde 12-15-2011 04:10 PM

as far as I know Elvis LOVED gospel music..

infinite monkey 12-15-2011 05:34 PM

Gospel music is great! Many great artists credit a beginning in gospel. :)

regular.joe 12-15-2011 09:47 PM

DanaC 12-16-2011 01:38 PM

I love gospel music.

Sundae 12-16-2011 01:45 PM

I like the noise of it.
I really don't like the sentiment.

It especially sells the promise of a better life after this, rather then striving to make this life better.
Gospel music in the US is rooted in slave culture, so of course I understand the reasoning.
It still makes me flinch though.

DanaC 12-16-2011 02:29 PM

I think that's one of the things I like about it. Its roots in slave culture. There's always an edge of resistance to that acceptance. It sells the dream of future happiness, but claiming that right was in itself a massive act of resistance and a way of twisting the dominant culture to their own ends.

JBKlyde 12-16-2011 04:29 PM

I'm not very familiar with it at all.. I do know a few "hyms" from church but I never really got into gospel... I was seduced by techno at a young age an now I'm stuck in this rut.. rock'n'roll is my religion and it has roots in gospel.. but today's rock music (at least the stuff they play on the hard rock radio) is so rotten that you have to pick out the good stuff and reject the rotten stuff. I listen to spirit fm most the time and that's pretty much as christian rock as it get's..

DanaC 12-16-2011 04:47 PM

Ever listened to the Moby album, Play?

JBKlyde 12-16-2011 05:31 PM

no I'm not really big into music I just listen to the radio.. don't have the cash to afford music..

HungLikeJesus 12-16-2011 07:15 PM

I didn't know anyone still paid for music.

JBKlyde 12-16-2011 07:24 PM

I usually just go to you tube to get my fix and that's free..

monster 12-16-2011 10:42 PM

Jesus only likes Creed. if you really want to be close to Jesus, you need to wuss it up a little. All othe rock belongs to the devil.

DanaC 12-17-2011 05:20 AM

I think Jesus would like Moby:P

Play is one of the very few faith inspired /exploration albums that I love.

I was listening to it a couple of days ago for the first time in a few years and was struck anew by the gentleness of it. I used to be verrry into Moby. Had a few rare early releases as well. But it struck me the other day, that some of what Klyde writes actually puts me in mind a little of Moby at times. And then it struck, me that maybe he'd enjoy it...and that gave me an excuse to fanny about Youtube looking for clips.....like these:

This one's an instrumental. But it builds really nicely.

Sundae 12-17-2011 07:14 AM

I listened to a LOT of faith based music as an early teen.
My favourite band for years was a pop-skiffle band called Fat & Frantic.
About 60% of their music had Christian reference. The rest was just a great noise - trumpet and washboard and double bass and harmonies.

Sadly, I have none to share. Vinyl and cassette did not stand the test of time and frequent moves.

I would listen to them again happily now. They broadcast pure joy at life.
Born To Be A Brownie, At the DHSS, Dirtville Werewolf, Aggressive Sunbathing, Brian etc.

JBKlyde 12-17-2011 10:51 AM

yea Moby Rocks..

monster 12-30-2011 12:55 AM

monster 12-30-2011 12:56 AM

Sundae 12-30-2011 08:54 AM

Clod! I've been looking for evidence online for years.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Clodfobble 12-30-2011 04:07 PM

Sure, no problem. I dunno about Amazon UK, but the US version has dozens of their MP3s available for download...
