SNARK!

Very funny!

glatt 11-18-2011 09:04 AM

I think Rick Perry is a tool, and don't think he'd be a good president, but his brain freeze is not something I hold against him too much. It's amusing, and I even feel a little bad for the guy. But he knew all along what that third agency was that he would cut. He just couldn't call the fact forward at that moment in time, and the harder he tried, the more it was blocked. It happens to everyone, especially as they age. In the role of president, he would have the facts at his fingertips and would have aides nearby to remind him, so it wouldn't impact him on the job. It's the kind of problem that would only show up in a debate, and debating in a forum like that is not something a president needs to do while on the job.

I imagine there are plenty of reasons to criticize him, but this isn't one of them.

If your post is meant purely in humor, with no political motives, then I apologize for being a wet blanket.

infinite monkey 11-18-2011 09:09 AM

Well, it IS humor because it IS funny.

I mean, come on, if I make fun of Taylor Swift for missing half the notes when she sings live, does your logic then extend to: I don't think Taylor is talented, and I don't think she can carry a tune in a bucket, but her missing half the words to her last song, well I don't hold that against her.

It could happen to anyone WHO IS MAKING BILLIONS OF DOLLARS PORTRAYING HERSELF AS THE LATEST GREATEST TALENT.

With G-dub, people saying "Oh, so he can't make a complete grammatically correct sentence, that has nothing to do with being president!" Oh, it doesn't? I don't know about you, but I like the most powerful person on the planet to have half a brain. But's that's just me.

Just seemed a weird thing to poo-poo, that's all.

You can criticize him for his ideas, for his personality, or for his ... uhhhh...oops

It won't lose him the election, but it is funny. He probably will do better than Cain and Newt, but not uhhh...

Seriously, he should have done a Palin, and written it on his hand, or his arm, or his uhhhhh...

Undertoad 11-18-2011 09:24 AM

Political schadenfreude, it's the modern pastime.

Spexxvet 11-18-2011 09:28 AM

It would have been funny if it had been an actor, athelete, or a uhhhh..

Stop it, you're killing me here!

I laughed! I cried! I...uhhhhhhhhhhh.

:D

infinite monkey 11-18-2011 09:31 AM

Do we get to make fun of Ann Coulter for saying that THEIR (the conservative) blacks are more impressive than OUR (the liberal) blacks! Oh can we huh, can we can we can we huh?

I'll make fun of her Adam's Apple, her rode hard put away wet look, and her....uhhhhhhhhhhh.

Undertoad 11-18-2011 09:34 AM

Conservatives find Ann Coulter "funny" for the same reason you find this "funny".

infinite monkey 11-18-2011 09:36 AM

Apples/Oranges.

I find Rick funny because he looked like a deer in the headlights, and instead of saying "I forgot" he kept trying to skim over it, even looking innocent when someone suggested the EPA was the missing ingredient, until the mod said "Was the EPA the third?" Rick: uh, no, uh, no.

I presume the conservatives find Ann funny because she's really good at horsing around about liberal politics.

glatt 11-18-2011 09:37 AM

Well, first of all it seems unfair, because he's not being judged on the substance of the issues.

And second, it's something that's probably happened to all of us, especially when we are under intense scrutiny,

And third,
third, uhh. Third. oops.

infinite monkey 11-18-2011 09:38 AM

Ladies and Gentlemen, the moment you've all waited for: Rick Perry and the Parachutes, performing all their greatest hits!

(Rick and band come out amidst smoke machines and darkness. Lights go up. Drums start in...)

Rick: Hello ATLANTA! Are you ready to rock? Let's go! A ONE, and a TWO, and a....uhhhhh.

I slay me.

I'm not judging his veracity as the possible leader of the free world. (That I do in earnest, on 'issues', on his...uhhhhh.)

I'm judging his stupid moment.

If I'd done it I'd laugh too. However, I would have said "What the FUCK? Brain drain! It was just on the tip of my tongue! What a dumbass I am!" ;)

Of course I meant this thread in humor.
But it's hard, if not impossible to say there is no politics in it.
I'm sure Obama will get his turn later.

OTOH, Perry did show he does have a quick wit and
sense of humor during the GOP debate on 11/12/11
The text is below, but it's better to watch the video in the link

The Hill
Joshua Altman
11/12/11
Quote:

During Saturday night's foreign policy debate, Gov. Rick Perry (R-Texas)
made light of his now famous misstep in the last Republican debate.
He praised Scott Pelley, the debate moderator, when he asked a question
about the Department of Energy, the agency Perry forgot earlier this week.
“Glad you remembered it,” Perry said when asked what he would with
nuclear material if the department was eliminated.
"I've had some time to think about it, sir," Pelley said.
"Me too," Perry shot back to applause from the crowd.

Spexxvet 11-18-2011 09:48 AM

Tony, relax, enjoy the humor. The originator of your user title also sang (kind of) "sex and drugs and uhhhh"

infinite monkey 11-18-2011 10:34 AM

Spexx: check your P...uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

classicman 11-18-2011 11:46 AM

I agree with you to some extent glatt.
But still the guy is a tool, even if he was the gov. of uhhh...

Lamplighter 11-18-2011 12:25 PM

Andrea Mitchell just interviewed Rep Barney Frank, about a House Bill
that blocks standards for school lunch programs... something about pizza is now a vegetable.

Franks reply was that Republicans took three Bill and combined them,
and then would not allow Amendments to their final Bill.
He started naming the three Bills and got two of them, but then said:

"I'm having a Perry moment"

For another entry in the urban dictionary.

classicman 11-18-2011 04:33 PM

nice.
We should trademark it and make T-shirts.

ZenGum 11-18-2011 05:09 PM

A meme is born.

A latest Perry commercial took an Obama comment completely out of context to claim Obama was disparaging American workers at an Asian trade conference. NBC News rather bluntly (I was surprised how blunt NBC was) accused Perry of misrepresenting facts. Then played the Obama quote in proper context. NBC then said rather bluntly that what Perry claimed and what Obama actually said were different.

NBC was doing what Peter Jennings of ABC so often did. Which is why George Jr Republicans so routinely attacked Peter Jennings.

I must admit, I did feel a little sorry for him in that moment. I do think that someone putting themselves forward for the most powerful, and therefore most high pressured job in the world, should be able to handle the pressure of a televised debate a little better though.

Having had a brain fart moment, he could have done much better on damage control.

Ibby 11-29-2011 06:27 PM

Rick Perry not remembering the third agency to cut is funny because we all like seeing people make fools of themselves on TV. It's not really a political attack, or has little legitimacy as one. It happens to everyone. It blows my mind that there has been so little actual analysis of the POSITION beyond him forgetting it. The fact that he wants to AXE the department of EDUCATION should have you worried.

ZenGum 11-29-2011 10:52 PM

What Ibram said.

infinite monkey 11-30-2011 08:09 AM

Yeah, that kind of got all lost in the melee, didn't it?

That and his brain freezes are what will get him elected. Stupid Americans do not like a president that makes them feel stupid, they like a president that makes them feel smart or at least that the pres is "one of us"

Note George Bush with his awe shucks misunderestimating etc.

I have to stop now.

infinite monkey 11-30-2011 08:50 AM

Probably because so many people thought he was going to ASK the Department of Education something.

"Let me axe you this: does the Department of Education rilly fulfeel our nids?"
