Stimulus 2

Here it comes..... BOHICA!

TheMercenary 09-08-2011 06:33 PM

This Fool of a President's speech has become background noise..... Good luck in 2012.

glatt 09-08-2011 06:42 PM

You're an expert in background noise.

Aliantha 09-08-2011 07:09 PM

Gosh, now I remember why I stopped posting in politics forums.

Sometimes the people you least expect can be arseholes.

piercehawkeye45 09-08-2011 07:32 PM

Merc, I'm curious what you don't like about the plan?

SamIam 09-08-2011 07:42 PM

My French leaves much to be desired - almost as much as my understanding of Merc when he goes all ditzy on us.

Anyhow, I actually tried to listen to parts of the Prez's job speech - kept getting interrupted by hapless souls wanting to check into the Casa a la Bates. I liked the part about payroll taxes being cut in half for outfits that hire new workers or raise current workers' salaries. Surely, even the 'pubs can't object to that (yes, Merc, I know you will be the exception - you don't even have to tell me in French).

I'm going to bring that up to the owner of this dive, Norman - I mean Bill - when he gets back from his latest jaunt to Cali. This place brings in an incredible $288,000/year. Carmen left the tax reporting forms out once, and I sneaked a read through them. Yeah, those folks in the upper tax percentiles sure create all these wonderful jobs for the rest of us. We get minimum wage no matter what - never any overtime for our 14 hour days, no holiday pay even at Christmas, etc. Yeah, Norman is a real "producer", alright - for himself. The only people who get above minimum wage is the head of housekeeping (I think Norman is afraid of her) and Motel Maintenance Man who pads his accounts. Yet, we're all happy for the work because there is NO work in my remote little town.

And I imagine that a significant percent of workers across the country are working at a lower wage than what they deserve and/or working part time when they need full time work. Maybe that tax reduction thing will help - if the Republicans don't throw temper tantrums and refuse to agree to ANYTHING or even try to come up with an alternative that might fall somewhere within the realm of possibility.

But Ali, Glatt is right. Merc excels at extreme right-wing background noise. He never comes across at trying to be reasonable, he only comes across like he is selling the propaganda.

Pico and ME 09-08-2011 08:30 PM

Merc, when it comes to politics, you are a one trick pony. You cant deny that. Well at least here.

Aliantha 09-08-2011 08:32 PM

Pico, I think everyone has a right to their own opinions. Even glatt. I was just surprised that he would say such a thing. Normally I consider him to be the voice of reason, not dismissal.

:lol2: You don't define me, I define me. Republickins suck as much as Demoncrats. Obama sucks the most. And his bullshit speech tonight proves how much he sucks... Make Obama a One Term President in 2012!

Aliantha 09-08-2011 08:33 PM

At the same time, just because Merc (appears) to have only one opinion, doesn't mean he doesn't have a right to say it. ;)

classicman 09-08-2011 08:36 PM

As usual the devil is in he details. Unfortunately everything has a cost. Until we know where the money is coming from for this next "stimulus" I'll reserve judgement.
I'm relatively sure his base is pleased. I'm equally certain that the R's are united in their disagreement with him.

I gotta give him credit though. This President can deliver a quite moving speech. That is something far different than the last one.

infinite monkey 09-08-2011 08:39 PM

How much time until Ali decides she, once again, hates the political discourse in this place...and denounces it heartily?

Poll?

Aliantha 09-08-2011 08:39 PM

If I could say so, I think merc takes his posts a lot less seriously on here than most others seem to.

Yeah, he's taking the piss out of most of us most of the time in the politics forum.

I just don't think it's worth getting all upset all the time over it. ;)

Also, I think he should stop saying nasty things every once in a while when someone hits a nerve for him. Usually I think he's been asking for it.

I just don't see him as one dimensional. No one is.

I was talking to my son about this very thing just the other day. Human nature has an inbuilt defense mechanism. It encourages us to remember the stupid or hurtful things people say more than the nice things because sometimes the stupid and hurtful things really hurt. Yeah yeah, words on the screen. I know Merc, but it's true. You've been here long enough to know lots of the people here and know about their daily struggles.

To all of us. We should try and remember the humanity of our fellow posters before we label them as one thing or another.

Who really cares if I do or not Shawnee? Seriously.. Who really cares?

eta: I don't recall being the flouncer around this place. In fact, I don't remember specifically denouncing the politics forum ever. I do recall being pissed off by personal attacks from people with nothing better to do than stir the pot.

TheMercenary 09-08-2011 08:40 PM

Bottom line is he has no plan to pay for it... this is no more than "shovel ready jobs 2" and a big ass waste of money as he panders to Unions and envokes the names of "teachers", "policemen", and "fireman". The mantra is old and worn out. I said numerous times when the Stimulus first came out, "What happens when the money runs out?". Well here you fuck have it........ BOHICA!

I just felt it important to contrast your 'how dare you not love your fellow man' spiel with your 'oh, i don't know how much more of the bickering I can stand' while (whilst?) all the time you stir and point fingers and accuse.

You don't pick important battles, you just pick insidious ones. Shame.

And you pretend innocence as to why I don't post in these forums at all hardly anymore. Have a look at your own fucking self and you'll know why.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones bitch.

eta: This post is in response to shawnee's latest drivel.

infinite monkey 09-08-2011 08:54 PM

I never hid that I'm shawnee, so if you see yourself as some sort of TMZ you're not. ;)

I think glatt's response was good. Simple. From a guy who doesn't say anything remotely mean even if he wanted to. So you jump on THAT, and once again expound the virtues of themerc?

Puh-leez.

TheMercenary 09-08-2011 08:55 PM

Bottom line: Obama is shit for a president.... Although I could support his re-election if both the Senate and the House went to the Republickins. We don't need a single party in charge of this country again.....

on her - AGAIN. Uncalled for. Unnecessary. Pointless. Mean spirited. Hypocritical.
Bitch wasn't strong enough a word.

infinite monkey 09-08-2011 09:08 PM

OH hai! What a surprise?

How've you been?

My response was to single out Ali, yes, for her insistence on calling out glatt on a very innocuous comment...probably related to the part (some thread? this one? Another one? Who cares) where merc couldn't own up to calling glatt a tool.

glatt a tool. Are you fucking kidding me?

But Ali, and you, class, can call me out on it. There is strength in mindless unison.

I just could not let that one slide by.

I only needed the right timing.

Pico and ME 09-08-2011 09:11 PM

:yesnod: Right.

TheMercenary 09-08-2011 09:12 PM

Tool time. Anyone can be one. I can own up to it. At the time it was not what I was responding too but hey, carry on... Is it really all that important? Are any of us that important? No....

I don't even know what a TMZ is, and I know everyone knows you're shawnee. I just don't like the new persona - not that I was overly fond of the previous one in recent times.

It's a shame really. I used to have a lot of time for you, and even felt sorry for you when people gave you a hard time. You know this because there was a time when I tried to offer you support over an issue you were having with a number of members on here.

Anyway, let's not waste any more time on this bullshit.

I've posted two posts this morning, one in current events and one in politics. This was the one I came to second. I'd just watched a bunch of you do the usual dog pile on merc, then came here to see glatt make a comment I considered completely out of character for him. I was surprised. Pardon me for being so, but I guess those of you who aren't merc fans can smuggly assume you have another crony now, although I doubt that's the case. I don't see glatt joining any of the little 'I hate merc' covens around here, but I guess you can live in hope. If he did, it might validate some of your accusations, at least in the eyes of some of the more stupid posters here.

That is all. Have at your flame war now. I personally couldn't be fucked bothering with you anymore.

classicman 09-08-2011 09:14 PM

Well there's two. Cue up Monnie and Spexx and the clique will all have chimed in. Oh joy.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't have said that. The thread kind of went from empty drivel to downright mean.

I don't hate Merc., but there are times when he doesn't care, and posts anyway. Tonight he was on a roll just before I posted that. I figured I'd call him on it. But I just added to the negativity.

Aliantha 09-08-2011 09:24 PM

Yeah naughty you classic. Get your arse over here and I'll spank you...unless you'd rather Merc did it. Might hurt more though. lol

glatt, if you have time, I'd really love to get some clarification from you about the post that started this pile of shit.

Dude, I totally respect you. If we have an issue I would rather take it off line and figure it out. Playing it out in public serves no purpose. You are right, I often just totally don't care. And I could give a shit what people think or feel, what you see is what you get. If you want to continue this I would be glad to exchange with you. If not no worries, it changes nothing for me.

We all know the president, no matter what party they're from, is just a mouthpiece right? He didn't write the package, and he didn't write the speech. Here's a question from a dumb aussie. If the dems think Obama isn't going to win in 2012, can they put someone else forward instead? I don't quite get the whole structure of US politics in that way.

Over here in the westminister style of parliament we use, if a party loses faith in the leader, they can basically vote him/her out and stick him on the back bench and put someone else in charge.

Pico and ME 09-08-2011 09:40 PM

In truth, I do not dispute Merc's classification of Obama. But, only because he has seriously let down the progressives - (but somehow I don't think that is what Merc is complaining about). Obama is worse than Clinton, in that respect, and I cant understand it - especially considering the campaign promises he made. I will probably vote for him, but I really wish I had another alternative. The workers and everyday people in this country need a stronger voice - the corporate business owners have it too good right now.

Exactly. I don't want a "progressive" as President of this nation. It goes against everything I believe this nation was founded on... But I sure as hell don't want some religious zealot in charge either.

classicman 09-08-2011 09:45 PM

Yes Ali, the party could nominate another person to run against the Republican challenger.
It is most unlikely as the R's have no real viable candidate right now.

Well they could, but it would be bad manners to try to run agains the incumbent and the only person who would have a chance in hell would be Hillary Clinton... and there is no way she could get elected unless Obama really screws up between now and then.

God Damm Right!

Quote:

Joel Pollack, Breitbart EIC:
Obama’s address was the worst major presidential address I have ever watched.
Substantively, Obama presented a “jobs” proposal that is more socialist than anything that even the most far-left Democrats have recently proposed as a new stimulus.
Also–if Congress must pass this jobs bill right away, why did Obama wait weeks, months, years to propose it?
Rhetorically, Obama’s speech was a shameless and breathless litany of straw men and partisan taunting. Republicans were right not to dignify this event with a rebuttal.
Overall, an insult to the American people. Barack Obama has diminished the presidency tonight.
I’m ready for some football.
"Millions of Shovel Ready Jobs!", Obama

How did that work out for ya?

Well, name me a single politician who doesn't share all these characteristics - from either side of the aisle. And your rants will sound less shrill if you use the correct numbers. 800 billion is almost twice 450 billion. Neither of which sums is going to bring the US down.

Plus, what's all this garbage about cliques and name calling? People get so down on Politics because everyone here is perceived as being mean. So then people post here for no other reason except to call each other names? Maybe we should have a forum just devoted to bratty behavior.

Can I be part of your clique, Classic? You know - confusion to our enemies and all that?
