hello............

well now.. isn't that thread title just original

this is my very first post ( please hold your applause ) and the last forum I belonged to pretty much insisted that newbies posted an "introduction" post or face the wrath of old timers.

so here I am.

thats it. ( for now )

:o

fargon 07-29-2011 07:38 AM

:tinfoil:High grynch, I'm KRAZY!!!

grynch 07-29-2011 07:50 AM

sheeeeshh.... I'd be crazy too if I lived in Wisconsin. *hehehhhhhh*

Trilby 07-29-2011 07:50 AM

You're up early, aren't you grynch?

are you an angry grynch?

grynch 07-29-2011 07:58 AM

no, not angry ( remember I don't live in Wisconsin ) and.. no... not early either...

*checking my cuckoo clock*... nearly 3pm

07-29-2011, 02:59 PM

grynch 07-29-2011 07:59 AM

ohhhh lookie... below my name "neophyte in training"

is that legal??????????????????

EDIT:.. guess not... I've been updated again... you kids are fast.

glatt 07-29-2011 08:04 AM

It's the afternoon, and you have a cuckoo clock. Are you in the Black Forest, grynch?

grynch 07-29-2011 08:06 AM

the Black Forest? ... I can see a couple of tree's but they are pretty green ( like me )

( black forest would be in Germany, I'm in Switzerland... s.w.Switzerland actually )

glatt 07-29-2011 08:08 AM

Oh yeah. Look, it says it right there in your location.

Well, welcome to the Cellar.

grynch 07-29-2011 08:08 AM

so... now that I've annoyed a few people right off the bat...
..
..
is most everyone here from the U.S.of A ?

EDIT... Glatt... truth be I just edited in my location... I think just before your post.. and yes my reference to cuckoo clocks and afternoon would leave normal people (unlike myself ) to believe Black Forest.

and thanks for the welcome

glatt 07-29-2011 08:13 AM

We're mostly from the USA, but we've got several from Australia and the UK and Europe. It's always good to have more, though.

grynch 07-29-2011 08:18 AM

thanks...

infinite monkey 07-29-2011 08:33 AM

Welcome grynch.

My maiden name is from Switzerland...the frenchie part, though don't ask me where that would be.

I want to go there someday. Googling my name there are a lot of people there with the name.

DanaC 07-29-2011 08:34 AM

Hullo grynch!

Allow me to extend a formal welcome from the Euro/Brit Dwellar contingent.

*waves from Yorkshire*

kerosene 07-29-2011 08:39 AM

Hi grynch good to seeya.

BigV 07-29-2011 08:40 AM

good *morning* grynch.

so, given your geographical advantage over me, how was Friday?

grynch 07-29-2011 08:40 AM

hi monkey.. I live in the french speaking part of Switzerland ( geneva ) and I've just googled your name and I could find very few monkey's here.

( I did find "cheese eating surrender monkey" but they had a proper french residence )

and hiya Dana .... just to add to the confusion here...I am actually a Yank transplanted over here... however mrs. G is Brit.. from near London originally but lived in Huddersfield for awhile... donkey's years ago.

grynch 07-29-2011 08:42 AM

DanaC.. just noticed the tag under your name.... are you a proper Brit or a transplant Canuck'ian?

Welcome to The Cellar.

thanks.... the date format... unless I've not found how to change.. is set to standard American but yes... more recently I am American expat... living over here 11 years now

"deep breath"
originally Canadian ( born in N.S. ) American by law, married to a Brit and living in the land of Cheese.

gee..... I should work for the United Nations with all that going on.

:o

infinite monkey 07-29-2011 08:50 AM

Thanks for that map. I'd never seen it laid out like that!

DanaC 07-29-2011 08:50 AM

*grins* no, I am not a Canuck. That was just a play on the way my name sounds.

I'm a Lancashire lass, transplanted across the Pennines to Yorkshire. About a 20 minute drive from Huddersfield as it goes.

grynch 07-29-2011 08:52 AM

Dana.. ok... I've never been up that was but mrs. tells me it's God's country ( with the possible exception of Huddersfield itself !!!!!!!!!!!! )

it's a weird country this.... the germans don't like the french, the french don't like the italians.. and the italians don't like anyone.

( mrs. and I had a couple of days away at a mountain resort just recently ... just above the second "e" in Lake Geneva on that map... maybe 15 miles from the french speaking area and not a soul spoke french )

Pete Zicato 07-29-2011 09:00 AM

Where did you grow up in the states? What are you doing for a living in Swissland?

If and when you do piss someone off here, I will probably burst out into song. It's practically required.

Pete Zicato 07-29-2011 09:15 AM

That was just Shibden valley, at the back of our village. Where I walk my dog.

I'll have to dig out some pics of the Dales and maybe Bronte country as well :p

infinite monkey 07-29-2011 09:51 AM

I want that cottage so bad I could eat it.

But want does not reality maketh so, thereto, and hereforth...well for one thing I can't convert to those poundy things and for another I don't have enough of those poundy things.

grynch 07-29-2011 09:57 AM

ok monkey.. here is the plan...

1) calm down
2) find out where you live now ( you are kinda confused by your description )
3) get a good job earn lots of poundy things
4) send them all to me.
5) repeat 4.

infinite monkey 07-29-2011 10:03 AM

That plan is just crazy enough to work!

(I, for one, welcome our new Bosty Swissy Overlord.)

Trilby 07-29-2011 10:05 AM

I want that cottage, too.

Monkey, maybe me, you, DanaC and Sundae could all go in to buy it? :)

Bri... sorry if I am sounding a bit snobbish... no, I am not rich, nor from Wellesley

That's exactly the sort of thing a rich person would say!!

;)

I'm just too provincial - I equate travel and ex-pat status to money. Maybe you got out just as the "W" years were commencing?

actually I did ok in the internet boom years... meeting, kidnapping, selling certain chatters into bonded slavery.

say, would you like a cuppa coffee ?

Trilby 07-29-2011 10:17 AM

coffee?

If you're trying to lure me into bonded slavery, I'd rather have a hot chocolate as my last drink as a free woman.
