Can a Chinook Do This?
 

Ok, I know we got somebody who built/worked on these things, I know we got at least a few who has used/flown in these things, and maybe even one who piloted these things. I think.

So, my question: Can a Chinook do this? Is the structural integrity there to accomplish this? Or is it straight bullshit/photoshop?

I've seen them paddle like ducks too. And alight like a hummingbird. Why not a swift while we're at it.

There *are* Chinook experst here. I'll let them step forward on their own though.

Given enough altitude, I guess you could do practically anything in one of those.

The real question is ... can a Chinook do this twice?

I have flown in a shit load of them and can honestly say thank God it never did that while I was flying with them, so the final answer is I have no idea.

If they are wearing boxers and the legs of their pants aren't bloused.

I've seen one do this at an airshow, so the answer is, "yes". They're pretty remarkable machines.

I think that, when one looks at this picture, one automatically assumes that the machine is doing a prolonged power dive. In reality, it is probably just doing a brief "nosestand".

That's just an itty bitty sample of what they can do, since they got PF Flyers Sneakers.

Nope, with the rotors in that position and the body at that tilt, it would have to be dropping. If the rotors were back more, it could be flying forward faster than it is dropping but couldn't be climbing.

How far does the nose have to go under for a non-recoverable airman killing, taxpayer squeezing, field churning, class A fuckup?

Yup, The CH47 can do that! I am a Blackhawk driver myself and although we cannot legally do it, the Hawk can be looped and rolled also

I don't know, but I had a Chinook pilot who was at the plant giving a rah rah speech, tell me privately he'd seen one do a full forward tumble and recover. I wondered if he was bullshitting me, but I was polite*. The Chinook can fly so high it could of had time, but the blade stress would have been tremendous.

*Yeah I know, not me, but professionalism, prime customer, and all that.;)
