How many times a day do you beat Solitaire?

I was beating solitaire several times a day until I started needing glasses, then I stopped before I went completely blind.

skysidhe 05-18-2011 02:33 PM

PER day?

I cannot answer that question since, I do not play solitaire per day.

So how do you answer the doctor when they ask how many alcohol beverages you drink daily?

skysidhe 05-18-2011 03:35 PM

For pre extraction surgery, I was given a paper questionnaire that had multiple choice options such as daily, weekly and monthly and then by how many.

Pico and ME 05-18-2011 04:18 PM

I usually just play until I win and then maybe a few more times after that until I win again and then I might finally give up, unless I want to win just one more time.

Otherwise, mostly I play FreeCell and I'm running at about 54% win rate with that.

A--That's not what I call it.

B--That's none of your business.

Pete Zicato 05-18-2011 04:22 PM

You can win more often if you select to have a single card turn over instead of three.

This is the way I play, because I am not a masochist.

kerosene 05-18-2011 07:27 PM

I play Chinese solitaire and beat it probably about 30-40% of the time.

There are lots of ways to "win more often", some of which are described here. Most reliable one for me was Alt-Shift-2.

infinite monkey 05-19-2011 09:26 AM

I play Northwest Territory on my solitaire program on my phone.

I've started the stats over many times, and played a bunch in each set...but can never keep it much above 25% for wins.

I lie

infinite monkey 05-19-2011 12:09 PM

Doctor, police officer, pesky relative...the answer is ALWAYS 2!

wolf 05-19-2011 05:08 PM

Very dependent on the variety of solitaire.

Klondike (that's regular old American Solitaire) I run around 20% wins.

Scorpion, Alaska, Ukranian Solitaire, and Russian Solitaire, and Spider I run around 5%.

My latest favorite is Batsford, which is nigh impossible, 1-2% wins.

I have a lot of time on my hands, and 250 versions of solitaire.

Spexxvet 05-21-2011 08:42 AM

Wolf, do you play with actual cards, or on the computer? Before computer, I used to play a lot of Canfield and Scorpion.

Pete Zicato 05-21-2011 10:55 PM

I beat solitaire like a red-headed stepchild.

Sometimes.

This is pretty much how I do it. I will add that, later that day, even knowing that I've already won several times, it is possible that I might allow myself to play just a little more. When, to my surprise, I win again, I am often stumped as to what to do next. Sometimes I play again just to ease the shock.

Android phone, free app called 250+ Solitaire Games.

I love Scorpion, never tried to play it with real cards, moving the piles seems like such a hassle when you have to tidy them up every time you move them, but it's MADE for computer play.

I am also a big Canfield fan.

I worked my way through the Solitaire section of Hoyle's Rules of Card Games when I was a kid stuck in bed with pneumonia.

I haven't found addiction solitaire or accordion yet, but I'im sure they're in there somewhere ... I mean 250+ different solitaires, they have to be in the batch, right?

kerosene 05-23-2011 05:06 PM

Isn't addiction also called Montana? Or am I thinking of a different one?

I started wondering if I could improve my FreeCell win percentage, because basically when I play, a lot of times I dont give it my full attention, and I usually play really fast.

Well so far so good....

monster 05-25-2011 07:54 PM

i just don't play it. am I a freak?

Montana is on my phone, seems very similar, except that it's played 6 to K instead of with a full deck. I have a strong preference for playing with a full deck ...

The stripped deck version does make wins more likely, and it seems to have unlimited redeals, which I kind of remember having a four redeal limit.

Now I just have to find Accordion.

And that one where you want to have only the Aces left that I can never remember the name of ... might be Aces Up. (not on the phone under that name. But Agnes Bernauer is pretty cool).

I see. The Montana on my phone is full deck with only 4 redeals. I played that game for a while until it just pissed me off, so I switched to a different version.

wolf 05-27-2011 09:57 AM

6 to King is more winnable.

There is also a "Big Montana" in my list, which is a double deck version.

And something called Big Black Carpet which uses only the black cards.

New Cellar Challenge:

Beat Solitaire, beat Solitaire again--before the cards clear from the first time (seen below on dual monitors).

Ibby 06-06-2012 12:38 PM

I play Eight Off on my phone, but not very often anymore. I'm a crosswords sort of gal.
That and Doom.

wolf 06-07-2012 11:59 AM

By "Doom" do you mean the ID software game? I love that game. A lot. Played it through a couple of times, back when it was new.

infinite monkey 06-07-2012 12:47 PM

ID software...didn't they do the Commander Keen series?

I love those old games.

And all the Aveyonds too.

Indeed. In fact, I still have my original distribution discs (three 3.5" discs) here. Awesome game.
