Really? This Offended You?

***THIS POST CONTAINS LINKS TO CELLAR POSTS THAT ARE NSFW***

First: Again, let me say right off, there was no intention to offend anyone. But someone was offended. By this. But, not, apparently, by this. Really? Offended by this, but, I guess, not offended by this. Really? Offended by stuff like this. But, not stuff like this. Really?

Perhaps you aren't aware that NFSW means Not Safe For Work. That means some people may find the content offensive or unsuitable for viewing in the workplace.

Yet again, I'm sorry you were offended by my postings.

monster 03-01-2011 07:01 AM

Without even looking at what's pissed you off this time, I have this to say:

1) Most dwellars are people. Different people find different things offensive in differents contexts on different days in different moods. Thank FSM for that.

2) NSFW tags are not a licence to share anything. Child snuff pron, for example, will never be OK

3) Who the fuck are you to tell anyone what they should and should not find offensive?

KTHXBAI

Alluvial 03-01-2011 07:37 AM

It was the trashy apartment, that's just beyond the pale. How dare you show that.

:p:

Sheldonrs 03-01-2011 07:48 AM

It's nice to know I had a hand (or at least a finger) in NOT offending people. :D

Trilby 03-01-2011 08:30 AM

oh get over it.

jimhelm 03-01-2011 08:41 AM

funny how often tough guys are so delicate

Alluvial 03-01-2011 10:50 AM

Actually, I *am* offended.

I'm offended that my arse doesn't look like that.

Perry Winkle 03-01-2011 11:52 AM

I can't even tell where anyone voiced any offense. Maybe in a PM?

Sundae 03-01-2011 11:56 AM

Maybe it was Tiki.

Nirvana 03-01-2011 12:15 PM

I think GD is an ass, man ! Oh dear did I put that comma in the wrong place? So sorry if I offended anyone.

How does one acquire a license to bugger? Is there a practical exam? Is one required to penetrate the examiner? Or is it just a multiple choice quiz? Are there probationary terms involved?

Shawnee123 03-01-2011 01:54 PM

Will there be a proctor?

monster 03-01-2011 01:55 PM

ding ding ding. You are the mistress.

footfootfoot 03-01-2011 02:01 PM

An invigilator

Stormieweather 03-01-2011 07:38 PM

Honestly G-Digr, you simply cannot please all of the people all of the time. So who cares?

If it matters, I've never been offended by anything you posted.

Pete Zicato 03-01-2011 08:27 PM

While I'd rather look at some of those pictures than others, all those links were to NSFW threads. (Had to wait until I was home to check) So don't let it bother you.

Gravdigr 03-01-2011 10:46 PM

Cuzz it was pointed out to me in a private message. And when I apologized (I've lost count how many times I've apologized) to the offended and pretty much said the exact same thing you people are saying to me, I got a "Well I should have known you would respond the way you did." I suppose they meant practically and sanely.

And just so ya know, I wasn't bitching. I was trying to show, in what I thought was a pretty blatant manner, that what is offensive and not offensive can be different and inconsistent, even in the same person. The offended Dwellar was offended by "scantily clad women". That means clad. Clothed. Naughty bits covered. Nothing was said about full frontal nudity. Cocksucking, not mentioned. Photos of folks plainly engaged in coitus. Nothing, not a peep. Men fingering other men in the ass?!:3_eyes: Silence.

Gimme a fucking break.

And if you're offended by such things, WHY IN THE FUCK WOULD YOU READ A THREAD TITLED WTF NSFW????

On #1: Agreed.

On #2: Ya maybe ought to look. The pics that were complained about, yeah they're among the tamest thing I've posted.

On #3: I've told nobody how to think. (Don't get all snooty just cuzz yer bendy!)

Jim, I like you, but, seriously, stay away from my ass.

monster 03-01-2011 11:17 PM

you miss the point (again) I don't care how tame what you posted is (in your opinion), stop whining and stop using the NSFW tags as an excuse ..once, twice can be forgiven, but you keep on whining about this shit. It's not the content that pisses me off, it's the goddamn whining. Life ain't fair, honey.

And yes, when you say "If you are not offended by that you shouldn't be offended by this" you are "telling them how to think"

Gravdigr 03-02-2011 01:22 AM

As usual I'm wrong no matter what the fuck the problem is EVER, I'm wrong. Looks like I'm just wrong all the fucking time. I was just born to be wrong I guess.

Big Sarge 03-02-2011 01:30 AM

I'd just give up on trying to figure out the whys and what fors. Face it, you'll always be wrong because you are a male and you are from the South. You'll never win with all of these yankee women.

Aliantha 03-02-2011 02:22 AM

Some people just can't be reasoned with.

Why someone would bother sending a PM to say they're offended boggles the mind, but I guess that's what the person thought was the right thing to do.

Some people are right though, some things are more offensive to some people than others. There are some things said or pictures posted on this site that I find offensive, but that's life. Everyone's different. Sometimes there's a deeper reason for things being viewed as offensive, but usually if that's the case, the person wont actually say it.

I went through this issue years ago when I came here after someone cracked a joke which to me was offensive.

You need to remember that in this place, if people think you should just suck it up then you'll get no sympathy, even if it's about something that's particularly difficult for you.

eta: oh yeah, flame away. :)

DanaC 03-02-2011 06:24 AM

I checked the links. I honestly don't see why someone would be offended by the pics you posted Gravedigr.

I can see why he's aggravated. I can also see the point of the thread. I don;t see that he is telling anybody how to think. He's just venting his frustration and confusion as to why his seemingly inoffensive pics were pounced on as a cause for offense when they are probably three of the mildest pics ever to carry an NSFW tag.

I'm not saying nobody should be offended by them. As has already been stated, people are offended by different things. Whomever it was that sent the private message may have very specific reasons to find those images offensive.

For the record though Gravedigr: without an explanation from the offended party, I honestly cannot see why they were offended by your pics.

monster 03-02-2011 06:53 AM

An insincere apology is worthless. If you say "I'm sorry" and then complain about the complaint on the board ......worthless, meaningless, hypocritical..... you're not remotely sorry at all. Which is fine. Maybe the complaint was ridiculous. But don't be surprised your apology isn't accepted. Not rocket science.

classicman 03-02-2011 07:56 AM

sigh - I think the first pic Grav posted that was "NSFW", created a stir and was moved or relabeled "NSFW" by Bruce.

ETA - It may have been the image of the children hanging off the crib. It was certainly around that time.

Undertoad 03-02-2011 09:09 AM

That was somebody else putting it in IotD.

Nirvana 03-02-2011 09:27 AM

No one is pressing this case more than you. Pick a new paradigm, they're free for the taking.

One of my Dad's favourite (and most posted) comedy sketches.
I doubt a month goes by without him saying four candles.

DanaC 03-02-2011 02:42 PM

Did you see him on WILTY? Sooo funny. His story was that he had actually had to go and ask in a shop for four candles.

Big Sarge 03-02-2011 08:09 PM

Not only have we got all of these damn-yankees (my momma always said it as one word), we've got all of these wild foreign women on here too. We're doomed.

expand.

Aliantha 03-02-2011 10:18 PM

I suspect what he actually meant was, "Why would you be offended by this but not by that?", which was basically the gist of the whole OP anyway.

I can see how you could choose to interpret it as a suggestion of how one should think, but if you choose to be reasonable, it's pretty clear that that was not the intent.

ftfy

Aliantha 03-02-2011 10:45 PM

I don't think being reasonable means you're blinkered by a wish to avoid unpleasantness/anybody taking a mild dislike to you at all costs.

Anyway, who comes here for unpleasantness? I mean specifically looking for it? Anyone?

monster 03-02-2011 10:54 PM

Safariists?

But I was really disputing your interpretation of "reasonable"

Aliantha 03-02-2011 10:58 PM

Yeah I know you were. I think you're smart enough to know what I meant by reasonable though. I don't need to explain it to you. :)

monster 03-02-2011 11:17 PM

No you don't. But I disagree. I think my interpretation is the "reasonable" one. :D

Aliantha 03-02-2011 11:22 PM

Yeah, I know that too.
