What is your favorite sound?

Chicka dee dee dee

Cloud 01-23-2011 11:37 AM

birdsong at morning

footfootfoot 01-23-2011 11:50 AM

a distant chainsaw on a cool, post rain autumn morning.

Or a distant prop plane on a warm summer late afternoon.

Trilby 01-23-2011 11:56 AM

auUP!

HungLikeJesus 01-23-2011 12:03 PM

I love the sound of napalm in the morning.

Sundae 01-23-2011 12:15 PM

A laugh I've been responsible for creating.

Bullitt 01-23-2011 01:49 PM

The squeak of a ski chairlift wheel.

Sounds like...victory.

Gravdigr 01-23-2011 02:08 PM

A babbling brook...wind in trees...Baby saying my name.

Radi-Oman 01-23-2011 02:36 PM

Laughter

fargon 01-23-2011 02:44 PM

The dulcet tones of a loud FART!!!

wolf 01-23-2011 02:47 PM

Wind and rain. With a bonus for good thunder.

skysidhe 01-23-2011 06:19 PM

Wind blowing through the trees.

Songbirds

Lazy summer days (and nights) have a particular sound I enjoy.

Violin

Cello

Acoustic, Spanish, 12 string Guitar

Indian Drums, other drum solos done right.

Flute

Laughter of a loved one.

Slot machine wins.<- I imagine the sound would be very nice.

Flint 01-23-2011 09:48 PM

...rainstorm in the afternoon, while you're napping.
...cottonwood tree blowing in the breeze is pretty nice.

...turns out people really like "white noise" . . .

...ocean waves, the sound of your mother's heartbeat while you're in the womb.

plthijinx 01-23-2011 10:32 PM

a child's laughter. nectar to the ears!

plthijinx 01-23-2011 10:36 PM

not to hi-jack but i am going to miss the go kart track when i do quit. there is nothing like seeing a child enjoying themselves. laughing, feeling exhilarated from their first go kart ride...my exhilaration from teaching the ones, on their first time, wanting me to ride side saddle to make sure they know how to drive and control the cart. teaching. i love it. whether teaching someone how to ride a go kart or fly an airplane. i simply love it and will miss the track.

Gravdigr 01-24-2011 01:53 AM

One of my fav sounds is a gimme.

A Fender Stratocaster through a Marshall Stack. On eleven.

CzinZumerzet 01-24-2011 03:18 AM

Oh without doubt, rain on the roof of a caravan/camper which goes back to childhood and caravan holidays when my mum was still alive and we kids were young and happy. I think that our love of certain sounds is by association as also with scents, lilac flowers do it for me and Johnsons baby powder.

GunMaster357 01-24-2011 04:07 AM

My own heart beat if there is enough silence.

Shawnee123 01-24-2011 07:12 AM

Crickets.

Spexxvet 01-24-2011 08:14 AM

A baby laughing

jimhelm 01-24-2011 09:33 AM

"I love you, Daddy"

Pooka 01-24-2011 02:25 PM

The sound of my son snoring. Sounds like he is sawing logs… which is pretty funny coming from a barely 3 yr old. Still it is sweet and comforting.

plthijinx 01-24-2011 03:34 PM

i know i know. a lot of you aren't airplane nuts like me but the engine start of a turbo prop is music to my ears!

I'm with you on this. Rain on the roof - one of the best.

plthijinx 01-24-2011 07:31 PM

metal roof at that....i miss my old farm house....

Pete Zicato 01-24-2011 07:57 PM

In my early twenties, I bought the vinyl of Stormy Weekend - which is entirely cheesy orchestra arrangements of popular music with background sounds of rain and thunder.

Cloud 01-24-2011 08:10 PM

I listen to recordings of birdsong, rain, thunder, rainforest sounds, surf, etc. constantly. No cheesy music though! Just natural sounds.

For the win.

It's autumn and my wife, who is from Montana, said she missed the sound of bugling elk... "It's my favorite sound".

For me at autumn, it's the call of a loon at twilight...
As we were raising our three girls, we took several camping trips across Canada, and the loons were their bedtime friends.

BrilliantDisguise 10-09-2011 04:25 PM

The sound of waves crashing.

The wind blowing through the trees.

A baby's giggle.

Sundae 10-10-2011 10:23 AM

Can't believe I missed this thread!
My List of Nice Things is very sensory. I could do this all day.

Rain on canvas

A genteel tearoom (hiss and gurgle and forks on plates and low chatter)

The racheting sound of a rollercoaster going up the first hill

A purring cat

Thunder

The wind through trees

(and no, no one favourite - many many many)

SamIam 10-10-2011 10:56 AM

The call of a meadow lark
The call of a coyote
Various kitty sounds - especially purring
The ocean

"Here's a lot of money for you, Brianna!"
is my favorite sound.

I also like rain on cottage roofs, thunderstorms, wind in the willows, babbling brooks, and most animal noises.

Good call on the money quote!

Would you like the animal noises coming from my bedroom this morning I wonder?
The sound of me checking the time on the clock across the room.
Switching off my alarm (5 minutes to go) and the Diz cat creeping up for a snuggle.

Then a CHOMP, a wail and the scramble of the little shit making a run for it AFTER BITING MY NIPPLE!

Yes it was a cool morning.
Yes the duvet had slipped off.
And yes it might have looked tempting.
But I spooked him enough not to have a repeat performance. I HOPE.

I am not a masochist or a cat-botherer (in that sense)
And I don't appreciate anyone or anything doing that unannounced.

Trilby 10-10-2011 03:14 PM

I'm sorry about ur nipple

but...

LMFAO!

BigV 10-10-2011 05:15 PM

Mine is something like that. Just listening to my boys sleep a deep peaceful sleep. Aden sometimes talks, Mav snores and Max snuffles around as most small children do. It's lovely when the lights are all out and I can just go and stand by their beds (like a stalker) and listen to them.

We have virtually no sounds where we are at night. The birds don't seem to roost in town, and most of the scampering things tend to go hunting in the cane on the outskirts. There are no major roads nearby either. We hear frogs sometimes, but in general, it's dead silence here during the night.

I love it.

Big Sarge 10-10-2011 11:07 PM

My fav is my youngest saying, "Big Daddy, I love you".

chrisinhouston 10-19-2011 09:42 PM

The sound of the dentist's drill!

Just kidding...

The voices of my younger grand children saying "I love you grandpa!" Funny but the older kids don't seem to say it anymore...:sniff:

Pete Zicato 10-19-2011 10:50 PM

Babbling brook.

Gravdigr 11-02-2011 12:33 PM

A big ol' lumpy cammed, big block Chevrolet, through a pair of those classic, old, glass pack mufflers. Idling, on the line.

ba-la-lop-ba-la-loplop-ba-la-lop-ba-la-loplop

Sounds like the first ten seconds of this vid:

Scriveyn 11-02-2011 01:26 PM

1. The sound of my dearest friend's voice, preferably when she is improvising jazz vocals or singing her own lyrics, going from mellow to rasping, from furious to caressing.

2. The sound of British English when I'm lost on a rainy day in a tourist crowd at Niagara Falls (true story)

3. A babbling brook in a winter forest to the accompaniment of a saxophonist and a percussionist: Schwarzwaldfahrt

bluecuracao 11-02-2011 07:13 PM

MB giggling. He often has a bemused expression and a very silly sense of humor, but doesn't laugh out loud very much. So, it's a rare treat when he does.

fargon 11-02-2011 07:22 PM

A loud wet fart!

oooohhhhhh yeah.

A really big rumbly V-8 or even a 12, that you feel in your guts as much as hear with your ears.

I can't help that silly VROOOM grin.

Stormieweather 11-03-2011 10:20 AM

Bird sounds at dawn
A babbling creek on a sunny day
A thunderstorm while I'm bundled up in my recliner or bed
My cat purring while she kneads my leg or arm
My 6yr old's belly laugh of delight
My partner practicing a riff on his guitar
Ocean waves rythmically washing ashore while I sunbathe, drifting in and out of sleep (and other beachgoers laugh and chatter in the back ground)
Rain pattering on the roof (and I don't have to go anywhere!)
Music playing while driving my corvette with the tops off
