Hooooooooly Jeebus! They're freezing their Fargon asses off up there in La Crosse, WI!!!

I was feeling sorry for myself this morning in the cold. I'll stop now.

I wonder about the RealFeel® on that screenshot. For instance, our temp is 10 degrees with a wind chill factor (feels like) of minus 3.
How is the RealFeel® warmer than the actual temp? Are there warm winds blowing in? Curiouser and curiouser. |
Those aren't bullet points, they are minus signs.
negative 15 is less than negative 12. Edit: Never mind. I just looked at the rest of the days. Yeah, that is weird. I don't get it either. |
And the high today is Denver is supposed to be over 60°. Strange weather.

;) I wonder if this is going to be one of those things I notice and wish I hadn't because I'll never ever ever find out how it's possible. This thread will slowly die, and as no one will have an answer, I'll be left with a nagging feeling for the rest of my life. There will be a lot of tangential commentary, and subject-changing, but I shall writhe in the pain of not knowing. No, I'm not obsessive. Not at ALL. (Maybe there is a negative wind?) ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH |
Well, in the summer, when it's humid, it feels warmer than when it's dry. Maybe that's true in the winter too (not sure how that's possible below freezing.) But if that's the case, maybe it's really humid and feels a little warmer.
|
Maybe the sun factor? In the shade it'll be 11, but the sun will make it feel like 15?

That is truly a chillin crib. Wasn't just a couple of years ago that you were on the verge of homelessness? What happened? Did I miss a report on your reversal of (mis)fortune? Glatt and Shawnee Repeat after me: When the weather's hot and sticky... The reason it can feel warmer than the actual temp has to do with standing in the sun, no wind, and dry air. moisture in the air allows heat to move to cold more easily, the sun adds radiant heat, and no wind also slows the transfer of heat toward cold. Heat=you, cold=them. The thing to remember is that heat moves toward cold, it doesn't rise. that is hot air that rises, heat moves in any direction. The greater the difference between the heat and the cold, the more the heat wants to move in that direction, imagine a ball on a hill, the steeper the hill the faster the ball rolls. The heat is the top of the hill and the cold is the bottom. |
Yeah, OK, I buy that, but then the RealFeel only works if you happen to be standing in the sun.
With wind chill, the damn cold wind goes everywhere. Even if you step behind a building it blows around and gets you. |
We can't stand for Shawnee to be in pain...not complete relief, but here's a child's aspirin

F3, About 2 years ago my VA disability was upgraded to 70% $1228.00 a month, then last june I got social security Keryx was able to quit her job (she is going to do taxes next year a job she loves.) and we got a new apartment in the good side of town. The Government takes good care of its veterans. |
When you're already below zero, I doubt that feeling three degrees warmer will matter to Mr. Frostbite.

THanks lamp. So I do get it now. RealFeel® isn't anything like wind chill. Wind chill, though kind of stupid, is an actual scientific number using the actual temperature and what the temperature feels like when the wind is blowing at 30 mph. Maybe not the most valid measure in the world, but I get the concept...having lived in wind chills. (Humidity is a silly thing to even bring into the discussion at 10 degrees.) RealFeel® is something stupid some weather people made up as a marketing ploy. That's why it's copyrighted. "Hey, watch OUR BROADCAST...we know how you REALLY feel, when you're standing in the sun and behind a snowbank with your kid's pup-tent hanging on the clothesline and with the wind at 23 mph." I do feel better! :) edit: And another thing: I can get why 10 degrees vs. -3 degrees could matter. Who really cares if, instead of minus 15, it feels like minus 11? Poppycock I say! Poppy! Cock! I said "Good Day!" |
Mister frostbite, feeze me a toe
Make it the coldest that I'll ever know Give it some blacks spots, you won't hear me scoff Then when it dies I'll watch the toenail fall off Mister Frostbite, I'm hardly cold Don't have a flagpole to lick or to hold So Please turn on your arctic snow Mister Frostbite, freeze me a toe |

for example, and this applies to Glatt as well, If you were smart enough to read, wouldn't it stand to reason that you'd be smart enough to walk on the sunny side of the street when the sun was out and the frost was on the pumpkin? |

So, then...RealFeel® assumes you're not a blithering idiot? Damn brainwashing, I say. |
TV weathermen should be an endangered species.
A map of isobars is really all that is needed. Oh, and a window. |
