How Many Presents...

...have you bought for yourself this month :D

I bought myself two books on Amazon - I feel a bit guilty about it, but, well...

I just did it.

have you indulged yourself yet??

wolf 12-07-2010 09:22 AM

I don't think adding something to the amazon cart to qualify for free shipping counts as a present, exactly.

But I did get a very nice $10 stethoscope (to keep at work). It's actually a $40 stethoscope on deep discount. The tubes are clear with sparkles in them.

skysidhe 12-07-2010 09:42 AM

books! ugg you remind me.

Yes, I bought books last month. I am still reading one of them this month, because it is so incredibly stupid, I fall asleep reading it. If it had been a good book, it would have been finished in three days.

I feel like I MUST read it or waste the money I spent on it. The other one is a historical, this one, this stupid one, is urban fantasy. My apologies to Kenyon and D.L fans. I thought maybe a combined effort of two authors would make one good book. nah, It's a mess.

Bri, Usually I say, money spent on books is money well spent. Unless they stupefy you into a coma.

I do have free shipping, so that's a good thing.

If I buy anything for myself this month it will be lights. It would be the led branches. Has anyone seen those?

Something like this.http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2557/...e6e387046a.jpg and if not that, then a set of general purpose led lights.

DanaC 12-07-2010 10:13 AM

Oh dear me...

Several Kindle books, several itunes audio and visual purchases, a new long cardi, some new jeans, some new boots, a new coat...

Some other stuff that i can't now remember.

I've been a bit of a spendthrift lately.

Trilby 12-07-2010 10:16 AM

I have the led braches and I LOVE them. It's been nearly a year and they are still working just fine. They are really beautiful and perk up a winter space. get them!

I always manage to spend the money on stuff I NEED but then feel horribly guilty that I spent any at all.

Catholic upbringing.

glatt 12-07-2010 10:24 AM

I really don't spend on myself much at all. I bought a cheap but nice mp3 player off woot about 6 months ago. That's the only thing I can think of that comes close.

Last week, got new front tires for the car and a couple lug nuts and wheel studs replaced. That was more of a safety thing though. Didn't want to spend that money, but had to. At least it goes directly into the local economy since it was mostly labor.

skysidhe 12-07-2010 10:26 AM

Don't feel guilty. Are you Pisces?

Make useless justifications, like it will keep Alzheimer away, or something.
That's what I do. Or just accept that it is a simple pleasure and you deserve it.

I will get those branches, and without a moments guilt, and if I get Alzeimers later, I can just stare at them and keep asking, "What is that?"

I did that too. I spent a lot of money on tires and now the explorer transmission is out. I have to save any future money for rainy day. It will stay that way until I find a job, and I will probably end up cleaning an old folks home or some such.

The bolded is a nice way to look at it, but my heart leans toward the boots and coat. It's not spendthrifty dana when you need them. I read there was quite a storm.

Juniper 12-07-2010 12:55 PM

Books are my weakness. Especially on Kindle because it's such instant gratification, on a whim. I buy at least 3 a month that I don't quite finish reading. :)

Right now I really want a new vacuum. But I think I'll let hubby buy it for me for Christmas. He's got to get me *something,* and if I don't tell him I want a vacuum, I'll get something like diamond earrings instead. And I know it sounds weird, but I'd rather have the vacuum!

Pico and ME 12-07-2010 01:08 PM

Warmth is my weakness, so I bought a cozy fleece zip-up (sort of grandma type) robe. I keep the thermostat below 70 - its keeping me toasty on cold mornings and evenings.

monster 12-07-2010 09:09 PM

I just ordered a book from Amazon UK. that's it.

HungLikeJesus 12-07-2010 10:05 PM

I bought some Sugru for myself (https://sugru.com/). I was getting some for my sister and decided I needed some too.

I've already used it to fix a pot lid.

Lamplighter 12-07-2010 10:38 PM

The marketing people at Home Depot are really good.
The entire entrance to our local store is filled with displays of packages of
drills and bits and screwdrivers and pliers and toolboxes and flashlights
...brand names like Milwaukee, DeWalt, Hitachi
...each for less than $20

I stood there looking for a long, long time trying to decide
which I would get - they were all too much a bargain to pass by.
As I stood there every man that come in the store stopped
with me and we silently pondered the displays.

I finally remembered... I bought all those last Christmas.

i want that stuff

GunMaster357 12-08-2010 02:45 AM

None at the moment.

But I'll probably buy a SONY Blu-Ray Player by the end of the month.

Along with a bottle of good whisky, some books...

HungLikeJesus 12-08-2010 08:39 AM

Why would you need books if you have a Blu-Ray player?

skysidhe 12-11-2010 10:22 AM

I bought Coty colones for my mother and sister, for no reason except it was on Christmas sale. Pre-Christmas gift. Just for fun.

I chose ICI for myself. Needless to say,the cologne is a weak version of the perfume, but it is ok. :)

ici perfume is mmmmm.

footfootfoot 12-11-2010 10:57 AM

I now see the world in terms of how can Sugru be applied to this object or situation. I must get some and go on a sugru bender.

I want to get the 10 DVD Prisoner Mega Set.

Come on by, foots, we'll Sugru together. I've only done one project so far - I wrapped the little cast iron loop on the lid of my dutch oven.

That seems like a good price for the Prisoner set. I don't think I've ever seen the show, but I know a lot of people like it. Maybe it's available through NetFlix.

Edit: I just added disk one to my queue.

glatt 12-11-2010 11:18 AM

I ordered two packs of Sugru the other day. I plan to give them as gifts, but secretly hope they won't get here in time for Christmas so I can keep them for myself.

They only have a 6 month shelf life though. Gotta use them right away.

footfootfoot 12-11-2010 12:21 PM

Yeah, the shelf life thing is like with super glue. I like to line up a number of repairs before I crack open the bottle.

HLJ, be sure you start with the first episode, even though each episode starts with a brief prologue, it is good to watch them in order.

I downloaded them as avi files, but like it enough to want the actual dvds.

HungLikeJesus 12-11-2010 12:26 PM

Hopefully they put the first episode on Disk 1.

footfootfoot 12-11-2010 12:41 PM

I'd make that guess too.

Clodfobble 12-11-2010 04:35 PM

There is actually fierce debate over episode order throughout the series (apparently they weren't broadcast on TV in the same order as they were filmed, which is also different from the order in which they were written, and no one can quite be sure of Patrick McGoohan's intentions, etc. etc.) But that particular box set (which I own) includes a little "episode debate" blurb on the back of each DVD justifying why they chose the order that they did.

Sure but where are they.
This year they have two, count them two, Husky tool bags, a 16" and a 12". with exterior pockets, dual-zipper tops, all-metal hardware, and a three year warranty, both for $9.98. Then next year you'll know where your shit is.

morethanpretty 12-16-2010 09:01 AM

Every present I buy for someone else ends up making ME happy that I (hopefully) got them something they'll like/need/want. So in the end, since the presents for other people are making me happy, wouldn't that be kinda like a present for myself?
I'm extremely giddy that I found Call of Duty: Black Ops at Target for $47...I'd already bought the boyfriend a wallet, but I couldn't pass up the game. He's been drooling over it since it was first advertised.

Oh, and I bought myself 2 books, bubble bath and pot holders to keep for myself :D.

bbro 12-16-2010 09:25 AM

I just got myself these boots - http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/shoe...Tall+Boots.jsp (for a smaller price yesterday)
These slippers - http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/inti...t+Slippers.jsp (in a different color)
Jeans, a sweater and a t-shirt. I think I did good :D

DanaC 12-16-2010 02:09 PM

Cool boots! I used to have some that were a little similar but with a lower heel. I wore them til they fell apart :P

I recently treated myself to these: http://www.next.co.uk/shopping/women...women&mpch=ads Though I didn't buy them from Next, I got them from a local proprietary department store...and I got them £20 cheaper!

monster 12-17-2010 09:54 AM

sparkly earrings.

Pico and ME 12-17-2010 10:11 AM

Finally got this...

Thanks Dana! I love the ones you got, too!

Shawnee123 12-17-2010 10:25 AM

Pico, what is that (are those)?

Spotlights?

I'm jealous, too, btw. I need a new pair of boots something awful.

Like MTP, I get SO excited when I buy something for someone else :)
I've been told off for it before. But that's more about me not sticking to budget as opposed to me overdosing on joy.

My lovely prize this year?
Check out the Bundt Cake thread.
Naughty SG went ahead anyway (third person in a childish attempt to absolve myself of censure) It doesn't look all that tidy because of the rum glaze giving it different colours, and the fact I finally realised I should take a photo about 5 seconds before the entire staffroom descended upon it. It came out of the mould like a dream. I wouldn't necessarily use that recipe again, but I've tried a chocolate/ kirsch one in a smaller mould that received equal approbation, so that might get another outing.

Oh and the mould is HU-UGE!
I knew this technically, but on receipt it still blew my mind. It's as big - if not bigger - than the buckets we used to make sandcastles! It would be lovely for jelly (if you had enough people to eat it!) Definitely a staff room cake mould.

Pico and ME 12-17-2010 12:21 PM

Its a tripod flashlight. I saw this in Lowe's years ago and sorta wanted it then, but thought I'd end up not using it. I don't know how many times I needed it since, so I finally got it. Its perfect for those times when need a flashlight but don't have that third hand to hold it.

Pico and ME 12-17-2010 12:22 PM

YUM, SG! That looks awesome.

Shawnee123 12-17-2010 12:25 PM

SG: you creative girl, you.

That would be handy, Pico.

Wouldn't it be more useful just to get a third hand?

xoxoxoBruce 12-18-2010 01:18 AM

Staying at the nuke plant long enough to acquire the third hand, would probably produce a glow that would preclude the need for a flashlight.;)
