105-tonne marijuana haul

Quote:

Mexican soldiers seized 105 tonnes of marijuana with a U.S. street value of more than $340 million on Monday in Mexico's biggest-ever pot haul, the army said.

Heavily armed soldiers raided a series of homes in a poor suburb of Tijuana, across the border from San Diego, California, and came under fire at least once as they took the drugs, also arresting 11 suspected traffickers.

Troops found the narcotics wrapped in 10,000 brown and silver packages in houses and a parked truck. The marijuana was brought together from across Mexico over several months and bound for the United States.

"The seizure of these drugs is without precedent in the country," General Alfonso Duarte told reporters at a military base in Tijuana, adding that the drug was worth 4.2 billion pesos ($344 million).

Exactly how much is that anyway?

zippyt 10-19-2010 01:44 PM

105 tonne = 231 485.375 29 lb,lbs

1 tonne = 2 204.622 621 8 lb,lbs

Dats a Lotta Weed !!!!

HungLikeJesus 10-19-2010 01:48 PM

lids.

footfootfoot 10-19-2010 01:57 PM

105 tonne = 231 485.375 29 lb,lbs/304,000,000= $1468.78/pound

or about $92. an ounce. It's the 1980s all over again!

TheMercenary 10-19-2010 08:16 PM

Tell them to send it to my house I will make sure it never makes it to the street.

classicman 10-19-2010 08:30 PM

Perhaps we can sell it and put the proceeds toward the deficit.

If these 'massive' busts were significant, then the street price would go up. Prices don't change. 100 tons is near zero marijuana. They make a big deal about this to maintain political lies.

Every Federal Officer I knew that was involved in this stuff would mention how ridiculous the entire enforcement thing was.

For example, profits from smuggling were so great that they buy $200,000+ speed boats. Unload the drugs in estuaries. Then burn the boat. A new boat with each delivery is cheaper than risking the same boat on two runs.

Another once joked, "We bust them by day, and smoke with them at night." Only those who 'know' using emotion would advocate marijuana restrictions.

I find myself experiencing two distinct emotions about this story:

Wait,.. we have an insane Federal deficit and we're paying people to do this? I'm not seeing mission critical spending here. That is an easy agency elimination, what's next?

TheMercenary 10-21-2010 08:02 PM

It was done by the Mexican Government, not the US.

Griff 10-21-2010 08:13 PM

We were probably still paying for it.

classicman 10-21-2010 10:38 PM

Yeh really. I hadn't thought of that.

footfootfoot 10-21-2010 10:47 PM

Let's not forget, it was only Mexican weed. 104 tonnes of that is equal to about 1 tonne of Chronic.

xoxoxoBruce 10-21-2010 10:49 PM

That's racist. :p:

what is the difference?

In the 70's Mexican weed was considered "dirt weed".

classicman 10-21-2010 10:55 PM

still is.

footfootfoot 10-21-2010 11:16 PM

Merc, you might enjoy "Botany of Desire" that's all I'll say, I won't spoil it, but I know you'll dig the book.

Shawnee123 10-22-2010 07:25 AM

Look at all the rampant street cred.

BrianR 10-22-2010 10:51 AM

Am I the only one to wonder when, exactly, marijuana was reclassified as a "narcotic"???

xoxoxoBruce 10-22-2010 10:52 AM

Wasting the weed is bad enough, but look at all that CO2 going up! You evil buggers! Won't somebody think of the polar bears?

They were. They were getting the polar bears high. The bears just laid and giggled as their small slabs of floating ice took them over the horizon.

Have any of you folks ever heard of a guy named Barry Cooper? He's a former cop from Texas (an interdiction officer) who, after 8 years on the force, quit law enforcement and now teaches people how not to get busted...every trick & tip you can think of that the cops use, he's giving it away. Very interesting cat. Activist. Check him out. Whether you smoke pot or not, he is an interesting personality to study.
