Psycho Stalker Songs
An interesting lyrical theme. Here is a beautifully poetic, elaborate stalker's fantasy from Camper Van Beethoven's 1990 allbum Key Lime Pie (one of my inexplicably favorite albums).
Moving into... darker material, Queensryche's "creepiest song ever" Close To You from 1986's Rage For Order, which was outstandingly progressive for heavy bands of that era. But wait! As part of Geoff Tate's "alien influences" on Queensryche's music, the song Close To You is actually a cover from Lisa Dalbello's 1984 album Whomanfoursays (I just learned this today). If, like me, you always loved the Queensryche version, hearing the original is pretty stunning. It is amazing how they managed to maintain the integrity of the song while making it a great deal heavier. Geoff Tate is perfectly suited for covering a female vocalist! Post your favorite creepy stalker songs here. I am interested in what has been done with this subject, musically. |

When you realize that the song is actually threatening physical violence...

The line that is stuck in my head:

Another song that famously threatens threatens physical violence/death is Run For Your Life (Lennon/Beatles). I tried to skip over that song in the car, so my kids wouldn't have to listen to it, and my daugher said she wanted to hear the "dead little girl" song. She doesn't miss a beat. |
gonna go old school here, since I haven't thought about this theme, but I know there are a few yet to be remembered. (yes, "run for your life" is a clear choice. For now, Jimi and Neil:

For the Spanish speakers, Ricardo Arjona (the Guatemalan Billy Joel) has a song about him stalking a soapie star and not quite getting that she isn't her character.
|
Virtually any love song about unrequited love is a psycho stalker song, really.
|
This is true. It all boils down to "boohoo you don't like me anymore." I, of course, am more of the opinion of Pink:
So so what? I'm still a rock star I got my rock moves And i don't need you And guess what I'm having more fun And now that we're done I'm gonna show you tonight I'm alright, I'm just fine And you're a tool So so what? I am a rockstar I got my rock moves And i don't want you tonight |
and now for something completely different ...
... somebody's cheesy amateur video (maybe at least xoB will get a kick out of it)
My fantasy has turned to madness And all my goodness Has turned to badness My need to possess you Has consumed my soul My life is trembling I have no control I will have you Yes, I will have you I will find a way and I will have you Like a butterfly A wild butterfly I will collect you and capture you |
I believe Amy Lee wrote this about her stalker. |

Ricardo Arjona has two songs-one is the song I mentioned previously about the guy who falls in love with the soapie star who isn't too keen about his attentions ("La chica de la tele") and the other one is "Te conozco" about being rejected by someone who he had been involved with, the basic premise of the song being "I know you so much better than he does. Therefore, I'm a better bet." |

Another from Queensryche:

It occurs to me that Godsmack "Keep Away" is the exact opposite of a psycho stalker song.
|
I'm back on Queensryche kick.
Operation: Mindcrime. How about a progressive metal/opera concept album (about politics, corruption, drug addiction, religion, murder, and insanity) that has radio-friendly singles and goes RIAA platinum (million+ sales). Quote:

Geoff Tate is absolutely one of the best male vocalists. Technically and expressively perfect.

He is/was awesome.

Since it's October and all...
A Halloween-ish, stalkery-type song. One of my favorites: Skullcrusher Mountain Welcome to my secret lair on Skullcrusher Mountain I hope that you've enjoyed your stay so far I see you've met my assistant Scarface His appearance is quite disturbing But I assure you he's harmless enough He's a sweetheart, calls me master And he has a way of finding pretty things and bringing them to me I'm so into you But I'm way too smart for you Even my henchmen think I'm crazy I'm not surprised that you agree If you could find some way to be A little bit less afraid of me You'd see the voices that control me from inside my head Say I shouldn't kill you yet I made this half-pony half-monkey monster to please you But I get the feeling that you don't like it What's with all the screaming? You like monkeys, you like ponies Maybe you don't like monsters so much Maybe I used too many monkeys Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? I'm so into you But I'm way too smart for you Even my henchmen think I'm crazy I'm not surprised that you agree If you could find some way to be A little bit less afraid of me You'd see the voices that control me from inside my head Say I shouldn't kill you yet Picture the two of us alone inside my golden submarine While up above the waves my doomsday squad ignites the atmosphere And all the fools who live their foolish lives may find it quite explosive But it won't mean half as much to me if I don't have you here You know it isn't easy living here on Skullcrusher Mountain Maybe you could cut me just a little slack Would it kill you to be civil? I've been patient, I've been gracious And this mountain is covered with wolves Hear them howling, my hungry children Maybe you should stay and have another drink and think about me and you I'm so into you But I'm way too smart for you Even my henchmen think I'm crazy I'm not surprised that you agree If you could find some way to be A little bit less afraid of me You'd see the voices that control me from inside my head Say I shouldn't kill you yet I shouldn't kill you yet I shouldn't kill you yet |
Even my henchmen think I'm crazy
I love that line. |

Somewhere a clock strikes midnight And there's a full moon in the sky You hear a dog bark in the distance You hear someone's baby cry A rat runs down the alley And a chill runs down your spine And someone walks across your grave And you wish the sun would shine 'Cause no one's gonna warn you And no one's gonna yell attack And you don't feel the steel Till it's hangin' out your back I'm your night prowler, asleep in the day Night prowler, get outta my way Yeah I'm the prowler, watch out tonight Yes I'm the night prowler, when you turn out the light Too scared to turn your light out 'Cause there's somethin' on your mind Was that a noise outside the window What's that shadow on the blind As you lie there naked Like a body in a tomb Suspended animation as I slip into your room I'm your night prowler, asleep in the day Yeah I'm the night prowler, get outta my way Look out for the night prowler, watch out tonight Yes I'm the night prowler, when you turn out the light I'm your night prowler, asleep in the day Yes I'm the night prowler, get outta my way Look out for the night prowler, watch out tonight Yes I'm the night prowler, when you turn out the light I'm your night prowler, break down your door I'm your night prowler, crawling across your floor I'm the night prowler, make a mess of you, yes I will Night prowler And I'm telling this to you There ain't nothing There ain't nothing Nothing you can do Shazbot Nanu nanu |
