Gas Prices

Went up 30c overnight here. Is it 9/11 related?

Lamplighter 09-11-2010 04:38 PM

BP

classicman 09-11-2010 05:43 PM

no change here - still around $2.55.

monster 09-11-2010 06:16 PM

was 2.65 yesterday evening -down 9c from earlier in the week, then 2.95 today. WTF?

monster 09-11-2010 06:16 PM

Maybe they're trying to fleece the U of M fans driving to the Notre Dame game....

Maybe worried about a Koran burning, setting off a disruption.

I don't care... I burned a copy of the Koran yesterday.;)

glatt 09-12-2010 06:29 AM

On our vacation, the most we paid for gas in Utah was 3.38 and it was never under 3.00 for the whole trip, couple days later, we were back in Virginia paying 2.38.

Apparently the gas price hike was semi-local and caused by a break in a pipeline in Illinois

GunMaster357 09-13-2010 07:33 AM

Well, it took me some time to convert every thing from gallon to liter an then USD to Euros.

Gas in the US costs around .50 EUR/liter.

Here in France, we're well over 1.20 EUR/liter for unleaded gas. Diesel is around 1.10 EUR/Liter

monster 09-13-2010 09:28 AM

....and it's tripled since I moved here from the UK ten years ago. When we first got here, it was under a dollar a gallon -unbelievable.

classicman 09-13-2010 10:21 AM

Here's what I could find. I didn't realize it was that bad.

Spexxvet 09-13-2010 10:57 AM

Last thurs or fri it $2.31 in south jersey. Now it's $2.37.

Lamplighter 09-13-2010 12:11 PM

Come guys, when I started driving the gas was $ 0.25 per gal.
Cigarettes were $ 0.25 per pack

I think if you plot the price of gas against the price of cigarettes you get a straight line.

xoxoxoBruce 09-13-2010 01:25 PM

Gulftane was 18.9, and cigarettes 22cents, a quarter in a machine with three pennies in each pack.

Pico and ME 09-13-2010 01:39 PM

I remember when gas, pop and cigs were 50 cents.

Gravdigr 09-13-2010 03:53 PM

Regular here is right around $2.65, give or take a few cents. Three days ago, $2.49. I can remember when gas was $.49 a gallon. I quit smoking (cigarettes, anyway, Winston Reds) when the cashier said "That'll be $1.03." I said "No way am I paying over a dollar for a pack of smokes." And I quit, right there.

wolf 09-13-2010 05:04 PM

$2.659 at the Wawa on my way into work.

Rhianne 09-13-2010 05:34 PM

Try to comfort yourselves by knowing that the US is still one of the cheapest places in the world (outside of the Middle East) to buy gasoline - or any other fuel for that matter. It's f*@!kin' ridiculous here!

Fortunately, thanks to recent changes in how I pass my days I now drive many, many fewer miles than I have in my whole adult life.

TheMercenary 09-14-2010 08:36 PM

Blame Bush...

TheMercenary 09-14-2010 08:37 PM

Gas is $2.40 here...

My wife's care gets 36 mpg. So I don't care if it goest to $5 a gallon.

monster 09-15-2010 07:41 AM

classicman 09-15-2010 08:02 AM

I wonder how much care Merc's wife needs...

just sayin'

Rhianne 09-15-2010 02:11 PM

At the price I paid today it works out at $7.96 a gallon - though our gallons are a bit bigger than yours.

Rhianne 09-15-2010 02:15 PM

Actually, US gallons (3.785 litres) are quite a bit smaller than I thought, ours are 4.546 litres so I only paid about $6.64 a gallon.

Gravdigr 09-15-2010 05:33 PM

Ouch.

What do you drive? Can you provide pictures? (I'm always interested in cars around the world.)

jinx 09-15-2010 08:57 PM

And how far do you drive it; commute, to the store etc.

TheMercenary 09-15-2010 09:05 PM

My truck takes regular, current prices are $2.40 a gal

My wife's Mini Cooper takes high test, filled up today at $2.96 a gal, ouch, but hey at 36 mpg, no biggy and it only holds 15 gal.

HungLikeJesus 09-15-2010 09:08 PM

High test? Is it a time machine?

Spexxvet 10-17-2014 08:10 AM

Saw $2.89 cash yesterday

Gravdigr 10-17-2014 02:43 PM

$2.90 is the lowest here (South-Central KY), I think.

infinite monkey 10-17-2014 10:47 PM

I found it for 98 cents cash, if you wash a few dishes and sweep the parking lot!

Not really. What does 'cash' have to do with it, legally?

I've been filling up my tank every time I see it under 3 bucks. And it's been happening often in the last couple weeks. Too bad we can't keep a giant gas tank like a propane (and propane accessories) monstrosity tank on our property without express written consent.

lumberjim 10-18-2014 12:10 PM

paid $2.88 Weds.

Has this got to do with the Rockefeller move?

Undertoad 10-18-2014 12:17 PM

No it's world oversupply as North Dakota and Iraq and Iran and Syria and everyone is delivering more oil.

Gravdigr 10-18-2014 01:18 PM

I got gas last night for $2.85!

So you got two tacos and a chili-cheese burrito from Taco Bell?

Gravdigr 10-18-2014 02:14 PM

:D

No, gasoline, really.

xoxoxoBruce 10-18-2014 03:22 PM

Driving the price of gas down so the conservative base, who never got/took anything from the government like those welfare queens, and are living on Social Security & Medicare, can afford to drive to the polls next month.

This was a Murphy's (Did you know Murphy's is owned by Wal-Mart?).

As I was posting this, Popdigr says the Minit Mart has $2.05 on their sign today.

Clodfobble 12-23-2014 04:57 PM

I paid 1.97 this morning. I did a genuine double take at the display.

monster 12-23-2014 06:53 PM

I filled the minivan for $30 yesterday. awesome.

Wow!

I filled up for the first time since my oil change in early November. $30. Gas was $2.399/gal.

tw 12-28-2014 01:43 AM

Apparently Gov Corbett's legacy has started. He all but gave away the fracking gas for free. Receiving massive campaign contributions from that industry. He massively cut spending to schools and transportation. And now has done what is expected. Gasoline taxes must increase by a total of $0.28 per gallon. He did so in a manner that all but the most informed would not notice. And intentionally delayed tax increases for half a year so that increases occur after elections.

Tonight Exxon in New Jersey is $2.199 per gallon. Exxon in Pennsylvania has increased this week to $2.689 per gallon. The entire 28 cent increase has not yet been imposed. So future PA prices will increase.

Gravdigr 12-29-2014 05:02 PM

GrandCherokeeOne was running on fumes yesterday evening.

Filled it up for $31 even. $1.999 per.

:jig:

lumberjim 12-29-2014 05:21 PM

tweren't on fumes then

Why the consistent bump up on Wednesdays? Is that the day most people fill up their tank? Or the last day before the weekly delivery from the gas truck? Or what?

lumberjim 12-29-2014 05:30 PM

I don't know why. figures though. that's my day off, so I'm more likely to buy it that day, on the way out to see the kids. fuckery.

My fuel level indication system doesn't indicate. Fixed it once, ain't fixing it again. When I put gas in, I look at gallons, multiply that times 15 mpg (call it 15, avg) and get range.

I was 17 miles past "Holy shit, man, put gas in the Jeep!" stage. When the math runs out, that's fumes.

Gravdigr don't run outta gas.

lumberjim 12-29-2014 06:53 PM

a wise policy. your fuel pump may be inside the tank and fuel cooled....and at the least, you don't want to get so low that all the goo and detritus at the bottom of your tank gets into your fuel lines.

I was just remarking that if you topped it of with $31 at eff. $2/gal, that's only 15.5 gallons. The 93-98 ZJ Grand Cherokee held 23 gallons. 99 on up it's 20.5

I always panic when my gas light comes on because the gauge looks so low, but you're supposed to have 25-50 miles left in the tank when that comes on. The MOST I've put in the Commander at one time is 17.4 gallons. It's built on the same platform as the 06 Gr Cherokee. Says it has a 20.5 gallon tank as well..... I think I'm better off thinkink it has 17.5 in my head.

monster 12-29-2014 07:11 PM

The car we sold when we left the UK had a fucked up fuel indicator too. gave up trying to assplain to the people who bought it, they got a steal anyway -we were flying the next day

Clodfobble 12-29-2014 10:28 PM

I once completely ran out of gas, and the car died in the middle of a small highway. I was never in any danger, just pulled onto the shoulder as it coasted to a stop. But it was embarrassing and super annoying. Ever since then, I get a tiny jolt of panic every time I see the gas light come on.

monster 12-29-2014 10:43 PM

Hebe is paranoid about the car running out of gas, but not sure why, we never have. ...Well, we did run it on fumes/gas light for 30 miles in the UP with no idea where a gas station was ...when she was driving. :o But I'm sure it's not that

I'm not entirely sure that GCOne has a 23 gal tank, but, I won't argue with someone who sounds like they know.

But, I will get the manual out, and look.;)

Attachment 49997

ETA: Well, whaddya know...23.0 gallons.

I'll never doubt you again, good Sir Jim.

I was doubtful mainly because this has happened, more times than is manly to admit, and I don't think either of us has ever put more than 20 gallons in the tank.

Attachment 49998

Ah, well, live visit teh Cellar, and learn.

Gravdigr 12-30-2014 04:05 PM

Maybe there's a beach ball in mah tank?

Gravdigr 12-30-2014 04:20 PM

Heheheh....

Now Popdigr's arguing with Jim, too. Vehemently.

Shown the manual, he's still not buying it.
