The curious case of TheDaVinciChoad

About a month ago, new user TheDaVinciChoad showed up and seemed to really like the Cellar.

Then he posted some anti-Zionist stuff in Current Events thread (it's in FYI: how news was, and is, and will be) that I thought I should address, and because he was going full retard, I went full retard too.

After a day of this, he PMed me, thankful for the Cellar:

Quote:

Just wanted to say that I appreciate the chance to debate this, with somebody who has actual knowledge of the situation. We may differ in opinions, and ideas... but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the chance to have a civil discussion about it!

Most people are too quick to anger, with too little knowledge to back it up.

Glad to see you're not one of them... just another reason I love this place! :)
I wrote back and pointed out that I enjoyed the debate and wanted no special treatment for being admin:
Quote:

I should also say, I put right into the FAQ:

Quote:
Also, you can hate me, it doesn't matter. (I will only respect you more for it.) My goal as a virtual community operator is to do right by the community itself. Disagree with me if you like; I'm often wrong and need to be taught a lesson. Disagreement and honesty are critical to a community's health.
He wrote back:

So, to feel actually able to open up, and be as opinionated as I am, beyond the shell of overt shyness, is a great thing. I'll always be thankful to you, and this community, for that... you should know what a unique place you've built, and know how much people, especially people like me, appreciate it.

Plus, it's always nice to have an intellectual discussion, theoretical discussion, theological discussion, or, well, any kind of discussion, with somebody as intelligent as yourself, knowing that neither party (myself, nor you) will take offence to anything said. You're a good man, and I thank you for our continued debate!

(Doesn't mean I'll go easy on you. )
Which is exactly the kind of attitude I love.

But a day later I did not go easy on him, again... and he promptly disappeared. Not one post on the Cellar timestamped after my last reply.

What the fuck. Days of heaping tons of praise on the Cellar, so thankful to have found it, ready for a full-out debate. And then... gone.

Well I waited a month before writing this, just in case he wasn't really gone - but he is, apparently. What The Fuck?

fargon 07-08-2010 04:49 PM

I wondered where he went.

lumberjim 07-08-2010 04:59 PM

Maybe he carked it

Cloud 07-08-2010 05:42 PM

things happen to people in RL. we may have no way of knowing.

Clodfobble 07-08-2010 06:19 PM

You could always PM him and ask. I think most people leave the default setting of receiving an email notification for PMs, so he's more likely to see it.

Flint 07-08-2010 08:52 PM

Maybe he went off his meds, and Dr. DaVinci became Mr. JBKlyde?

lookout123 07-08-2010 08:59 PM

Weird. I must admit though I don't exactly miss anti-semites when they disappear.

TheMercenary 07-08-2010 10:58 PM

Maybe someone beat him up for his contrary views.

toranokaze 07-09-2010 03:36 AM

I thought he came back as 15andsex

ZenGum 07-09-2010 07:13 AM

I would guess he stopped, or perhaps resumed, his medication.

what if one someone does cark it? How will we let the cellar know? no one in my family knows how to get here and log in as me.

I know this has been discussed before...but, unlike LJ, I am too damned lazy to look the thread up.

Shawnee123 07-09-2010 09:28 AM

I think my ex or my current would log in and let you know I've carked.

Please to have a giant party thread and just remember all the things about me that made you laugh, made you mad, made you shake your head, made you run away screaming...I want to be remembered for all my facets, good and bad. But drink some beers, those who can, those who can't, tip a diet coke or a coffee.

Gawd I hope it's not today! These plans aren't making themselves, you know!

sexobon 07-09-2010 11:31 AM

When it's my time to go, I've made arrangements for you all to be buried with me in my pyramid so the Cellar will be there for me in the afterlife ... hope you don't mind.

Perhaps TheDaVinciChoad heard about my plans and bailed.

Shawnee123 07-09-2010 11:36 AM

I'm up for pretty much anything! What should I wear?

glatt 07-09-2010 11:38 AM

A big roll of loose fitting white bandages.

Griff 07-09-2010 11:41 AM

Black Nikes, black sweat pants...

DON'T DRINK THE KOOL-AID!!!!!!!

Sundae 07-09-2010 02:53 PM

My bro knows to sign up as himself and post.
My Mum knows my user name at least - I might advise Ste of my password. The boy has none of my snooping urges, and would never dream of logging in as me unless there was something serious to be communicated.
My Mum doesn't understand how this place works, thankfully (I'd never dare keep a diary in this house...)

Maybe DVC was just whistling past the graveyard when he was praising you and the Cellar, UT.
Like people who get married or have a child to patch up an ailing relationship.
Maybe he really wasn't comfortable or happy and just trying to convince himself he was.

I didn't read any anti-Semite posts myself, so I can't be anything but sorry he's gone.

monster 07-09-2010 09:29 PM

SRSLY? his profile shows he was here today, he just hasn't posted in a month -and iirc, he was a little sporadic.

remember when glatt told us about his mummy fetish?

good times....

glatt 07-09-2010 09:38 PM

Everyone has to have a hobby.

ZenGum 07-10-2010 08:07 AM

That's what comes from mis-reading Freud.

this topic is slightly morbid, if important.

xoxoxoBruce 07-10-2010 11:16 AM

If everyone hit the tip jar every month, when they stopped we'd know they were dead.

richlevy 07-10-2010 01:05 PM

C'mon lighten up on the guy. When you're sitting in a cave in Pakistan dodging predator drones, you have to expect a spotty Internet connection.:right:

wanderer 07-12-2010 03:04 AM

Maybe UT's last post did made him do something horrible due to potential damage to his reputation! Maybe the enlightenment turned him blind and he walked right past the cellar never knowing it.

wanderer 07-12-2010 03:06 AM

Or maybe he was an alien. Trying to pry some cellar brains. Once he has completed our analysis, he will be right back with all war machine-UFOs.

BrianR 07-12-2010 11:09 PM

if *I* check out, it is in my final instructions to my wife to tell certain people what happened. Some of them are here so I'd expect a nice memorial thread!

Perhaps a list of my best posts or something...

Griff 07-13-2010 06:54 AM

A greatest hits thread? That'd be neat.

BrianR 07-13-2010 09:38 AM

If I know you guys, it'll be more along the lines of a roast!

wolf 07-13-2010 10:01 AM

A nice bequest to a good friend could prevent your high school yearbook photos from being posted.

lookout123 07-13-2010 06:12 PM

which would be worse: checking out and the cellar not noticing or receiving a "greatest hits" thread without any posts?

NO! Not that! I was wearing a noose (tie)!

Seriously, there were only two photos of me and I'm not really ashamed of either of them. I lost my yearbook a long time ago. But there are more recent photos that I'd prefer.

toranokaze 07-20-2010 04:46 AM

That is one fear I don't have to worry about, I wasn't in my high school year book

classicman 08-02-2010 01:42 PM

He's baaaaaaaaaaaaack - I wonder if he'll find this thread again.

I as good as told him he was antisemitic; if he can't reform, then damn him to hell for his antidemocracy as well.

The degree to which a government is less than a democracy* defines the degree to which it is less than legitimate.

*Always including the constitutional-monarchy equivalents, which nowadays look mostly like certain families having the job of being national symbols.
