4th of July 2010 ... Plans?

Hopefully, if it doesn't rain, playing an outdoor jam/gig. An old bandmate has a yearly big outdoor campout and fireworks extravaganza on some land just outside of town. Besides some originals and free jamming , this is defined as a setlist:

July 4th 2010 SET LIST
• *PSYCHO KILLER - TALKING HEADS
• *MOTHER'S LITTLE HELPER - STONES
• *I'M A MAN - SPENCER DAVIS GROUP
• SAME OLD THING - BLACK KEYS
• I'M BOUND TO PACK IT UP - THE WHITE STRIPES
• *KILLER CARS - RADIOHEAD
• *IN THE NEW YEAR - THE WALKMEN
• *MY MATHEMATICAL MIND - SPOON
• PIECES OF WHAT - MGMT
• *TIKI GOD - PRESIDENTS OF THE US OF A
• *1985 - WINGS
• DELIA - JOHNNY CASH

From one practice session on the originals, I have determined that drumming doesn't seem to aggravate my wrist tendonitis or torn ligaments or whatever the ƒuck is wrong with my wrists, so I hope to have a good time and play some live music! And get drunk! And blow shit up!

Say hi to my peeps.

lumberjim 07-03-2010 10:45 AM

It would be a good day to kayak, but i think the creek will be way low. maybe a short tubing trip...

lookout123 07-03-2010 11:10 AM

We had our block party all set up. Usually @ 50 people bouncing from house to house. 2 pools for kids with adult supervision, 2 pools for adults with no kid intervention. Plenty of food, and BYOB for those who want. Just good clean fun.

Of course, both boys woke up with strep throat so the party will be on... just not at our house.

glatt 07-03-2010 01:51 PM

We were gonna go to the lake in Pennsylvania, but there are complications, so we're staying home. But we'll go to the Air Force Memorial near the Pentagon where there is military band and a decent view of the fireworks in DC. Traffic, but nowhere near as bad as if we went into DC.

Just got back from a hike. Beautiful weather today.

Elspode 07-03-2010 02:01 PM

Either going to a friend's farm to watch him try to blow himself up with homemade explosives, or to another friend's place to see a pro show from a nearby office park.

wolf 07-03-2010 07:16 PM

Had to choose amongst invitations, not a hard choice, best friend is a Yankee Doodle Dandy, going to her house for her 64th birthday with all of her family, already was given orders for what I'm to take (Drunken Dragon Dogs) and have made a bonus batch of Bossy Nova Salmon Dip. Passed up invites to go camping at a site that has a pool with a tiki bar in it, and a drunken bbq pool party at the home of one of our shrinks.

I will be going real camping (the kind with tents and coolers, but not with the Rolling Hotel) later in the week. I'll be working support on my friend's VisionQuest.

Today, this morning, took the kids to the parade in my hometown (where they were also born) and hung out all day; caught an awesome fireworks show which we were RIGHT UNDERNEATH to the point you could feel the concussive force in your chest.

We are boating with college kids to the beach off the coast. It is usually crazy out there on any holiday.

Sheldonrs 07-04-2010 01:51 PM

Laundry
Packing for vacation in San Diego
Watching fireworks through my kitchen window from the golf course next door.

TheMercenary 07-04-2010 06:09 PM

Well it was a bit hairy. Seas 3 - 6 feet, we only encountered those waves at one point, the rest of the time it was 2 - 4 feet. The wind was blowing out of the NE between 12 and 15 mph which generated the waves. When we could hug the shore against the wind it was minimized but knowing we always had to cross to the other side to turn was part of the day. We got wet, had a great day and had to much sun. Happy 4th all.

Cicero 07-04-2010 06:45 PM

Still successfully in my pajamas at almost 6 pm. This is it!!! A day for me to celebrate freedom. The freedom to stay at home!! Yeah! Light a firecracker for me!

The projectile vomiting is over so I've got that going for me.

lumberjim 07-04-2010 07:57 PM

we tubed.

I was going to take a video of it for you guys, but then jinx reminded me that if I fucked up the video camera, we wouldn't be replacing it any time soon in this economy.

anyway, we arrived at the launch point just as the local canoe rental place pulled up with 40 (FORTY!) tubers!

talk about shitty timing.

we got in ahead of them, but they were right on our heels, so we stopped and had a sandwich and let them go by. It took a good 45 minutes for them, and the subsequent canoers and kayakers, to thin out enough for us to try to enjoy some semblance of river privacy. I hate the public. It's crazy when the river is that crowded. Last time we went, there was like NO oNE out there.... today it was friggin rush hour. In spie of all of that, I had a nice time, and the weather was perfect.

Happy 4th, you guys!

jinx 07-04-2010 08:15 PM

Freakin' jerkholes. Was like floating down Broad St.

Fireworks were most excellent. It's a little hot and sticky and buggy here. I should probably shower all that deet off before I go to bed. I heard the local rental canoes were all out before midday and the waiting line was way long. Good job we went to the pool instead. Perfect place to de-sticky. Someone kept trying to give me work to do for 8am tomorrow, but I told her where to stick it. :D

Wait, what are we celebrating again? ;)

...I found it amusing that everyone said "Happy 4th" rather than "happy independance day".

As Brits, we don't get an independance day to celebrate -we were too barbaric and no-one wanted us that badly -even the Romans gave up before we were fully conquered! We get Guy Fawkes night, but it's in rainy November ....although at least you don't have to wait very long for the dark necessary to really enjoy fireworks. I can't believe how many people set them off in the daylight!

BTW all but the lamest fireworks are illegal here, but we're close to Ohio, so those intent on a good display just pop over the norder....

Met up with a couple of families from the neighborhood at the Air Force Memorial in Arlington, which affords excellent views of the fireworks without the crazy crowds. Nice picnic, good friends, nice show. Unfortunately, after the show, the cops wouldn't let us out of the parking lot the way we needed to go, and we got diverted into the worst traffic ever. I'm still wound up from that mess.

Clodfobble 07-05-2010 12:05 PM

We set off some basic stuff in our driveway. Started while it was still light, but it was reasonably dark by the end. Minifob is still talking about the "romo candles" and the "festibal balls." My stepson pranced around like an ice dancer with his sparkler, but at least he was willing to actually come outside this year to participate instead of hiding indoors. We all had on bug repellant, but the skeeters still ate us alive. Minifobette placidly imitated the noises that the fireworks made, especially the high-pitched screaming ones, but wasn't at all afraid of them, which surprised me. Overall, the kids had a good time and it worked out really nicely.
